What a pleasant surprise in the middle of Southern Maryland! We were antiquing(check out the Chesapeake Market) and needed a late lunch, so we asked the woman at the counter what she recommended, and ended up at the Tavern. It’s definitely a local watering hole, and we didn’t have super high expectations when we went in, but it was actually really awesome. The menu is no-frills, but everything we ordered was done perfectly. We started with the fried pickles, which were breaded to perfection, with a tangy dipping sauce, and were immediately impressed with their beer selection. I had the BLT, which honestly was the best BLT I’ve ever had. I literally had one for lunch today, from the super-local, super organic, adorable spot near my office, and it didn’t even come close to the one I had at the Tavern. The beau had fish and chips, which he ate with gusto. The barkeep was friendly and gave us a list of local breweries to check out the next time we’re in the area. If you find yourself in St. Leonard, or even down that way, skip the chain restaurants along Rt 4 and go to the Tavern! You won’t be disappointed!

Imagine mom-and-pop tavern if compared to a dive like the quarry house, With A grilled cheese and tomato soup special Which gives you Over a pint and a half of rich tomato soup, And well done buttery white bread grilled cheese sandwich. Which provides the perfect relief for a hike down to the cliffs. The Stella tap was on its way, out so I had a Yuengling.

Imagine an old school dive with an excellent billiards room and you have The Tavern in Saint Leanord. We arrived early, grabbed 2 bar stools at the bar and dove into the on tap board in front of us. The Tavern has an excellent choice of IPAs, local and small out of state breweries. Michelle is a great bartender, from Seattle, serving to Redskins fans the day before the playoffs. She was great always keeping an eye on us even when the bar was packed. The Tavern has a small bar food menu, nothing special, karaōke on Saturday night, good size dance floor and great prices. If you find yourself in Southern Maryland and just want a great local bar, hit the Tavern!
