I had sweet and sour chicken with fried rice and a pork egg roll, also the orange chicken and crab Rangoon. It all had average taste, the texture of the chicken was soppy and gross. It is totally ghetto inside, but I really don’t care about that if the food is good, it’s really not.

To sum it up in two words: –Not advisable– I’m also at a loss for words as to why people give this place a five star rating.

Good food cheap. For those complaining about the«less than desirable» people who may be sitting in there getting refuge from the weather, get over yourselves!

The food here is really solid and there was a dude selling stolen watches in the corner! If you can overlook the sketchy location, it’s worth a try for takeout.

Decent food if you want to risk your life while entering the joint. Orange chicken is the better of the dishes.

Like others I am confused why this is rated so high. First of all this place is sketchy as hell. Walked in the door and there were 2 – 3 knuckleheads up to no good inside. One man had bags and bags of undetermined goods piled up in the booth next to him and asked me if I wanted to purchase a movie from him. Received a few mean mugs while I was there too. Food was average and not good enough that I would take that adventure again. Giving this place two stars because the crab Rangoon was decent. Place also doesn’t deliver and the restaurant was dirty and dingy inside.

It’s not the best and just alright. The Chicken St Paul sandwich was good. The service is good there. I had orange chicken and the orange sauce over the chicken was watery and bland tasting. I never had orange chicken that taste as bad as theirs did.

I’m not sure why this place had such a high rating. The main benefit for me when I eat here is price and location. The food has a long way to go before it will make me want to return. The vegetables were off-colored, but I give this a pass because it’s hard to find good fresh vegetables at an affordable price in the CWE. The place was old and dirty, but again given a pass because it’s CWE. What I was most disappointed in was the quality of the sauce on my Mongolian beef. Watery and flavorless. The beef wasn’t dark, but light. Worse than fast-food quality, in my opinion. The Unilocal rating is extremely misleading. It’s like they got all their friends to rate it well, even though it isn’t.

My boyfriend and I have had take-out from this place a few times now, and we keep going back. We love that all the ingredients are very fresh! And affordable to boot. I love their orange chicken and vegetable lo mein.

Good cheap Chinese food. The fried rice is very good, as well as the crab rangoon. I recommend taking it to go.

This place is solid. The food is fast, consistent, tasty and very affordable. It feels like the local meet-up for some customers from the neighborhood. I see some folks just hanging out and talking most times I come in. Once, there was a guy who tried to sell me cologne, so it’s got it’s charm. Overall, it’s a great standby for Chinese take-out.

In my opinion Chong Wah has the best fried rice and crab rangoon in the city. The staff is nice and always accommodating, they have no issues with adding/deleting ingredients. They are extremely consistent with the food that they make. I never worry about the quality of the food that I receive here. Happy eating!

Delicious food! All the flavor you expect in Chinese food and yet not as greasy as you usually get. No fortune cookies though! I would not eat here though. Definitely stick to take out.

Excellent!!! Got the ham fried rice and ½ an order of general tso’s chicken. I tried the chicken based on the reviews and I’m so glad I did. Been looking for a good rice place in the city. The reviews about the location aren’t as bad as they seem. Yes there were people in a few booths selling things but they didn’t hassle anyone. I went on a Friday evening and they were busy. But I figure busy is good!

As long as they keep selling cheap ham fried rice, this place gets 5 stars. Food quality might not be as good as Wei Hong or Lu lu’s but at 1⁄3 of the price I’m not complaining. Hidden gem. Don’t judge the restaurant by the décor.

Fantastic greasy chinese food. The duck fried rice is the bomb, as is the General Tso’s chicken. Love getting take out from here late nights!

Descriptive phrase: don’t judge a book… A hidden gem. Chong Wah is almost literally hidden in a back corner of the Schnuck’s on Lindell marketplace. It’s not the most inviting area, and the place itself looks like it’s consistently closed from the outside(it IS closed on Sundays). The inside isn’t much better, with sparse decorations and tables like you’d see in a mall food court from the 80s. There’s a counter at the back with old, broken signs with their food options listed. Don’t be fooled, though; you’ll leave happy. Other reviewers had noted the General Tso’s Chicken(~$ 8 for a half order) as a favorite. It’s not listed on the signs, but it is in their paper menu and they offer it. I got this and changed my steamed rice to fried. I got a number and waited. It came out after a few minutes and I headed home with it. My first observation and my only complaint was that they gave me an almost laughable amount of fried rice. I’d order a second batch next time. That being said, the half order of chicken was more than enough for one person. I get General Tso’s almost every time I order fast-food Chinese; I have to admit, the sauce Chong Wah uses is different but resulted in possibly THE best General Tso’s I’ve ever had(from a fast food place). It was tangy without being too spicy, and the added pieces of broccoli were well cooked. The fried rice was delicious as well. This place just makes tasty food on the cheap. It’s no frills, and I’m sure it was horrible for me, but darn it if I didn’t love every second.

This is my favorite Chinese take out spot in the CWE. The food is wonderful, cheap and it comes comes out fast! My favorite dish here is the General Tso’s Chicken which is amazing. The duck fried rice is fantastic, too! The only downside is that it looks kinda ghetto from the outside, but don’t let that fool you. The food is good!

This may be the best Chinese takeout joint in St. Louis. The only downside is that the place is often very busy, and the wait times can be long if you don’t phone in your order ahead of time. A whole order of duck fried rice(w/no green onion for me), and an extra duck leg really does the trick for me. As with most«takee-outees» you need your own bottle of soy sauce because the stuff in the packets is merely colored salt water.
