Lunch is good for the price. Call ahead and take-out. Dinner is not that good of a deal for the price comparing to what you get for lunch. The portion is too little for me, especially the amount of rice they serve for lunch, but for 5 – 7 $. It’s not bad.

Great food, great price, fast service! For the price, West End Wok is hard to beat in the Central West End; they have excellent hot and sour soup, and my go-to is the chicken and broccoli. If you are looking for a tasty meal, this is your place!

Go to Chinese place close to Wash U Medical Center in CWE. Tasty hot flavorful food for $ 5 – 7! Can’t beat that. Their customer service is good. They are courteous, and bring your food out quickly. Have been here atleast a dozen times and never had any issue with what I had ordered! Empress chicken and spring rolls are my favs.

The food is better than what I expected. I ordered Buddhist lunch combination plate, it comes with a crab Rangoon, egg roll, and soup. Great value for its price.($ 5.89 after tax)

I love this place. I work close and have tried many different dishes! The hot braised chicken is probably my favorite dish. You can’t go wrong here! One of my most favorite places in the CWE and very reasonably priced!

I have been here numerous times throughout the past few years and I must say, it’s a good staple. I always end up ordering something different every time I come in and I never leave super disappointed. I think I’ve left one time a little down about my meal, but that was on my part because I ordered it. They have special places that come with the standard rice and egg roll/crab rangoon, however there is the added bonus of soup. Which some people really enjoy. I personally don’t care for the soup options and what do you know, I’m in luck. If you don’t want the soup you can ask for an extra roll or rangoon. All of this being said, I have never actually dined in. I’m usually heading back to my place after a long study session and just want something quick that I can easily leave with. They are on the pricier end of Chinese take out, but somewhat worth it. Also, they do have a smaller menu than some places. This hurts them from time to time in my book because they don’t always have that one thing that I really want.

Finally tried this place after living steps away for 7 months. Great, affordable food with generous portions. A best bet is to go with a combo plate(entrée, rice, soup, spring roll, and a crab rangoon). I tried the sweet and sour chicken and it definitely didn’t disappoint. The sauce was just tart and sweet enough without being sticky/heavy like a lot of other places. I also liked that they used chicken breast instead of breading and frying any cut of chicken. The breading was just right-not too much there where you get bites of just breading. Fast service(we ate in). I grabbed a to-go menu on the way out and plan on ordering again soon.

While they specialize in standard Chinese-American food, I appreciate that many of their dishes(e.g., Hunan beef, kung pao chicken) are loaded with fresh, crispy veggies and not deep fried. I really like that the flavors on these dishes are a bit spicer and less sweet compared to many other similar places. The combination plates are awesome and come with the main dish, white or fried rice, an egg roll, a crab Rangoon, and soup(egg drop or hot and sour). If you are being lazy and live in CWE, this place gives you enough food for at least 2 meals for $ 5-$ 8.

West End Wok is intertwined with many nostalgic memories of my days going to college in the Central West End area when I would go here almost weekly during certain time periods. After going to some of the other Chinese restaurants in the area and being less than impressed, WEW was a great discovery because it was a hip and clean restaurant with great Chinese-American food. The best part of this story is that it is still basically the same as I remember it even though I don’t go nearly as much now(I don’t think my metabolism is good enough to handle it anymore anyways: O). WEW offers most of the standard Chinese-American options and with sizable portions. While the price is slightly higher than some other Chinese restaurants(particularly the dinner menu), I never thought they were unreasonable especially given the location. It’s actually quite surprising that they can keep the prices that low. The portions are huge, especially their fried rice and noodle dishes. Half orders are usually enough for me, and I’m no amateur when it comes to bulk eating. Their combination plates come with a soup(egg drop or hot-and-sour), crab rangoon, and a spring roll with your choice of fried or white rice. I would highly recommend the hot-and-sour soup instead of the egg drop from my experience. I’ve tried a large portion of their menu but one of my favorites has to be the hot braised chicken. I have gotten some dishes that were slightly over salted, so it can be hit or miss in that aspect. Even though the turnover rate for their employees is fairly high, I have always found them to be friendly and competent. Lunch time can get busy, but the wait is never long. The owner is also working there frequently and even delivering. I get delivery more than I dine in now and have found their delivery time to be quick even when the order is large. If you’re looking for a quick meal in the CWE area, WEW is definitely worth checking out.

Ordered from here for the first time a few days ago and I was pleasantly surprised! I was looking for a solid Chinese delivery place and I have found one. The combination meals are a fantastic deal. You can choose any of the meat options and you get an egg roll and crab rangoon on the side as well as your choice of soup. I got orange chicken and egg drop soup and enjoyed both for such a great price. The delivery was quick and I will definitely be a returning customer. This place offers the typical«Chinese-American» hybrid of food so if you’re looking for authenticity, this might not be the place for you but if you’re looking for yummy food for great prices, you’re in luck.

A rare Friday night in but salvaged with take-out. My first time eating at West End Wok and I was a little disappointed. They do such a tremendous business for lunch I figured it has to be tasty. Wrong. But their prices are reasonable to cheap. I ordered one of the combo plates — the garlic chicken. With a combo plate you get a small spring roll, a crab Rangoon, soup(I chose egg drop) and your food with fried rice. I’m pretty sure the Rangoon and spring roll came out of a box. The egg drop soup was good. My garlic chicken did not have any garlic flavoring and was just so-so. The fried rice was edible. Maybe if I soaked some of the food in soy sauce it would have tasted better but I think some food should stand on its own. This didn’t. Would I go back there? Only if I had to. There are too many Asian places around to waste my money here. Sorry West End Wok.

Crispy shrimp not crispy at all but soaked in some sort of red sauce. The shrimp were huge. It’s a shame that dish is soaked with so much red sauce.

I love this place! I live a block away and get a takeout order here frequently. You get such a bang for your buck(especially at lunch) and it’s really great Chinese food. I would highly recommend this place, especially if you live or work in the CWE!

You can spend more than $ 10 on lunch or dinner at West End Wok, but you don’t have to and that’s half of its appeal. The other half? With only a few other carryout options nearby, the fact that combos here might be the most consistently appealing among Chinese restaurants in the Central West End, and that the restaurant represents an independent option, goes a long way. Although it might not be the best choice for groups, dining in is a pleasant enough experience with counter height window seating overlooking Laclede and clean tables for around 20 – 30 in pairs/quads. As others have mentioned, the lighting and décor lends the space a welcome brightness; the subtle patterning on the walls is also a tastefully stylish touch. West End Wok is primarily a carryout/delivery option and there’s no table service, but eating in is enjoyable. The menu consists of solidly executed classic Chinese-American dishes(Orange Chicken, General Tso’s/General Tsao’s, Cashew Chicken, fried rice, lo-mein, etc); there are several vegetarian options too. A few selections, such as the West End Beef(lightly breaded strips of beef, fried and paired with a sweet-savory sauce), might also be available even if they aren’t listed on the online menu. The soup and appetizer list is short(most of the sections of the menu are fairly limited to the hits, really; you’ll find most of what you’re expecting and little that you won’t be). In fact, only two soups are listed as being regularly offered, and of these I’ve only ever wanted the Hot and Sour after accidentally having it with a combo once. Literally titled, the peppery broth alone rarely disappoints when I’m looking for a spicy, earthy kick of flavor. Add a half-order of Hot Braised Chicken with a crab rangoon to the soup and a satisfying, quick lunch is done.

As a college student this is just a stop when exam season gets tough and you don’t find the time to cook your own food. As the star rating says ‘A-Ok’. I’m not expecting amazing food. Prices are decent, food has flavor and I can stomach it. Unfortunately the portion sizes ranges. You can range from having a large portion one day but on another day you can look at your to-go box and just sigh because you may have to order more food in order to be full. When you’re paying the same price, for varying portion sizes it’s kind of disappointing. The interior is clean and well kept from what I can tell when I drop by for my orders. It’s less sketch compared to many other Chinese restaurants around. It’s brightly lit, floors are clean, tables are clean, and there isn’t much more you can ask for from a regular ol’ chinese place.

This is a hidden gem in the CWE. I would recommend trying this place at Lunch time with such great specials they offer.

There are not too many things that I miss about the Central West End. An area that is known for pointing noses to the sky, the CWE has very little to offer in flavor and value. In addition, it’s expensive to live and eat there. However, one of the best additions to the CWE has been West End Wok. I am a Chinese snob. I went to school at Missouri State, and my first experiences with Chinese were down there in Springfield, MO. Think what you may, but the best Chinese food that I’ve had was there. After moving back to St. Louis, I quickly learned that this city doesn’t have great Chinese. West End Wok doesn’t quite capture my need for sesame chicken or the general, but it’s a step forward from the bland, mediocre versions that I’ve grown accustomed to here. Still, dishes like sesame chicken or General Tso’s are pretty much average for the area. What makes West End Wok four stars is the chicken fried rice and its unfried dishes. Once I discovered how tender the regular chicken was, I stopped ordering anything else. My wife prefers the spicy chicken, which again is based with the unbreaded chicken. Also, I like how the fried rice doesn’t have any unnecessary ingredients in it, just simple fried rice. The best time to order from WEW is at before four, that’s when the lunch specials end. Each combo is &1.50 off the regular price from 11 – 4.
