I tried a slice of Ms Jessie-Pearl’s Key Lime poundcake at the U City Farmers Market and I was HOOKED! Delish! I ordered a Key Lime birthday poundcake from her and it was a big hit. Not too citrus-ey — but just enough of that key lime taste. And the poundcake texture is something v special and different.

best. pound cake. ever. EVER. i’m not even a big fan of pound cakes but i tried a bite anyways. the cake texture is fluffy yet dense at the same time, i don’t even know how its possible. unlike most pound cakes that are so dry i get choked up on them, Jessie Pearl’s poundcake was moist and glided down into my satisfied belly. not only are her pound cakes amazing, so is pretty much every baked good i’ve tried by Jessie Pearl. if you’re a gooey butter cake fan, her gooey butter cookies is possibly the god of cookies. her raspberry filled chocolate cake was shipped out to me over a course of a few days — yet even days later the cake was still so moist and delicious. i still have not yet had a more tasty chocolate cake that hers. she is also the SWEETEST lady who was so pleasant in doing custom orders with. i’m definitely going to order again!!!

Jessie-Pearl, you won my heart! First, this kind woman answers my phone on a Friday evening. I explain that I’m seeking a key lime dessert for a birthday treat. «Sure, would you like it personalized for him?» Really? Yes, ma’am! I arrive at the cheesy Clayton Farmers Market and there she is, smiling face and all, with my key lime cake(that tasted A-MAZING) that is scripted for the birthday recipient. She gave me a sample of carrot cake and it is the very good, very basic carrot cake. No nuts, no raisins covered with amazing cream cheese frosting, which is just the way I prefer it. I’ll be back, Jessie-Pearl!

If you say bring a cake to Thanksgiving dinner, the first thing that comes to most folks mind is Sam’s. In a day and age that women do not bake, Ms. Jessie is the last of a dying breed. Ms. Jessie cakes are great.

If you have not had Jessie-Pearl’s baked goods, your life is not as good as it could be. Her peach cobbler(that makes its own crust; that is made from a recipe from the slave days) is UNBELIEVABLE. Everything is so ridiculously good that you will hardly be able to believe it. She is the ONLY reason to go to the now totally lame Clayton Farmer’s Market, and she is MORE than worth the trip.

Found weekly at the Clayton Farmers’ market on Saturdays, these sweets are culinary crack! Found out about this amazing, one-woman baking revolution in the February 2011 issue of Sauce Magazine. Old-school tastes and sensibilites, all scratch. She also does custom orders for parties and events too!
