Karen Forsman has been my dermatologist since early 1997 when I was diagnosed with DLE, discoid lupus erythematosus. She’s on top of this, so knowledgeable, so educated, so gracious and friendly. In fact after the initial diagnosis, she did some research to see if, in fact, I have tumid lupus, – rather rare, but my medical history has been marked by some rare symptoms and rare reactions to procedures. So this was not outside the realm of possibility. I was just so impressed with that research, that she was interested enough and cared enough to do this! As it turns out, I don’t have tumid lupus, but it was distinctly in the arena. She knows when I need to be on medication vs. on steroid topical creams. And when I need to be on both. She’s conservative in the therapy, which I appreciate. But aggressive when appropriate. When we do punch biopsies(and there have been at least 20 of head, scalp, face, nose and other extremities — all in the head and neck area), she talks through the entire procedure as it goes, so I know what’s going on all the time. And she preps me prior by telling me what she’s going to do, how long it will take and other particulars. Dr. Forsman is so personable and funny! But she really knows her stuff. I am confident of her medical knowledge and how she will treat my situation.
