After my previous hairdresser quit to be a SAHM, I was in the market for a new hairdresser. I was looking for someone in my SoCo location who was reasonably priced with hours that worked with my normal 9 – 5 job. I’ve got a fairly basic hair cut, but I have thick hair that is in the annoying stage between straight and curly. Melani specializes in thick and curly hair, so I decided to give her a try. Well, three haircuts later, I’m pleased with my hair and it’s infinitely easier to style, after she razored it(since I didn’t want layers) to lightly reduce the volume. Melani also does a great job with my 9-year old daughter’s hair, which is similar to mine, just baby fine. I’ve also done a hot oil treatment which went well. I’m considering highlights(due to increasing greys), but Melani keeps reassuring me that my natural blonde is perfect without it.

Anyone who has moved cities knows that it’s hard to find a new hair stylist. So, my roots desperately in need of a touch up, I searched Groupon for a highlighting deal. Using their online booking service, I booked a full highlight and cut with Holly; looking back now, I wish my Wi-Fi had crashed not allowing me to book and saving me the humiliation that comes with a bad dye job. When it comes to my hair, I am pretty laid back. However, as I explained to Holly before we began, 1. I like my blonde highlights to look as natural as possible in my brown hair and 2. I needed to look professionally presentable. She said she understood and proceeded to highlight my hair. As she highlighted, I started to feel like something was wrong as she was missing large portions of my hair. Yet trusting her«experience» I decided to reserve judgment until after she had finished. Once finished, however, the problem with the highlights was even worse then I had imagined. In fact, as I was told by a stranger at a social function, my hair now looks like a bird had pooped on it as the color was so poorly done. Further, I no longer can even put my hair up in a bun or ponytail as Holly left entire sections undyed with my natural roots left untouched. To say that I am disappointed with this would be an understatement. Please, please, please do not let Holly ruin your hair too.

It’s been 10 days and I feel the need to write an update. The purple color I had put in my hair(at a pretty high cost imho), I was told would«fade to a nice lavender.» It washed out in under 5 days — it didn’t fade. I now have random purple roots with gold fried ends, and I need to find a new salon to get it fixed. I still feel that the staff was nice, but I’m pretty annoyed at this point and not planning to return.

Melani is amazing with my hair, she never ceases to amaze me. She actually takes the time to figure out what you need and what will work for you. I just walk in the door and let her«do what she wants» and every time I leave I am so happy! Great personal salon that cares. I would recommend Salon Inertia to anyone. She also does great with kiddos hair, she cuts both of my sons hair.
