Great atmosphere, great cocktails and great crème brûlée! Everything was clean and well presented. I’ll definitely go here again when I’m craving unique vegetarian cuisine.

Spent some time having a couple cocktails here this afternoon. I got shut out of Scottrade due to their no re-entry«policy». Even though smokers are allowed out and back in during intermission… But I digress. Great selection of whiskeys, singles, whites, ryes etc. a little wine, cocktails, and vegetarian treats. Which would have been great to try had I not just eaten. Give it a try if in the area!

We had a group of 5 really excited to try this place for the first time. We checked in on the NoWait app to get a good place in line, it said 20 minutes. After over 1hr &20 mins of waiting for a table, we walked out. The manager we dealt with was extremely rude and not trying at all. There were over 10 tables that were completely empty at 9:30pm and she would not allow us to pull up a chair or push tables together. Obviously didn’t know how to use the NoWait app, didn’t care about our money we were planning to spend or pleasing the guests. Very unfortunate situation. I am going to think hard about visiting again, especially with more than 4 people because they didnt do anything to accommodate us. Bartender and hostesses were fabulous, the manager should not have an attitude like that. She ruined the whole experience.

I had a very unfortunate experience here which was truly surprising considering any of the Bailey’s restaurants are my go-to choices for a «sure thing» as far as service, food, staff, and atmosphere. The bartenders and hostesses where extremely nice and professional. The couple of drinks we got were good and the décor was really lovely — these are the reasons I did not give only 1 star. However, we were just a small group of 5 wanting to have dinner at 8:30/9pm on a Saturday night, not even peak dinner rush hour. We checked-in on the app in advance but were never seated after a full hour of waiting, when the app estimated only a 15 – 30 minute wait. I realize the app is not a concrete commitment and waiting for 1 hour certainly isn’t going to kill me HOWEVER there were SEVERAL tables available. We were the only group waiting, no one else, just us… and at least 4 – 5 open 4-top tables. That was the main problem. A member of our party finally asked to speak to the manager and she refused to accommodate us at a 4 person table, stating it was against fire code to add a 5th chair and that ‘no one could get by.’ People could EASILY get by but also, lets not forget: the place was already half empty by this time, no one would have even needed to get by. I understand fire-code but she could have very easily made an exception this one time or at the very least, been nice about it. I failed to mention, she was rude about the whole situation. Other managers would have bought us a drink or an appetizer, some type of kind gesture for our inconvenience. Instead, she was rude and completely unhelpful. So we left to eat elsewhere at a restaurant that was packed to the gills and guess what, they sat us at a 4-top table. Again, I love the Bailey’s restaurants which is one of the main reasons I’m posting this review. I know their standards are higher than this and they would likely appreciate knowing this information before more groups like mine experience the same and take their money elsewhere.

Drinks, atmosphere and food are awesome. The bar is a great place to sit but the tables on the main floor and upstairs are fun too.

Ok so this is hands down my favorite restaurant in St. Louis. I’m a vegetarian and I feel like vegetarian restaurants are a hit or miss, unless they’re a specific cuisine rather than generic«vegetarian» but boy oh boy, this place is a-ma-zing! The first time I went here, I was such a happy girl! The food was delicious, the drink was not bad(I had been a little too ambitious with what I ordered), and then came the dessert… and my friends, if you ever eat here and the dessert menu includes the Chocolate orange espresso crème brûlée, please do yourself a favor and order it! It is one of best things I’ve ever had the good fortune of putting in my mouth! I no longer live in St. Louis and my biggest regret was not being able to order this during my last Small Batch visit as it was no longer on the menu. It was a sad day indeed. Every time I’ve been here, it’s been with non-vegetarians and they have always loved their food just as much as I have. The tacos seem to be a big hit(I love them too, but I try to order a new thing every time) so it could be a good place to start if you’re not sure what you want to order. One of my friends said he wouldn’t have known he was eating a vegetarian meal if no one had said anything! Also, if you’re a whiskey fan, or know one, add this place to your list. I’ve been here with a whiskey aficionado friend and he seemed to like it. So I assume it’s good stuff. And oh, I almost forgot — the chef always sends out an amuse-bouche and oh my, does it amuse your bouche! I loved one of them so much that I asked the server if it was possible to actually order it, but apparently that’s not a thing that is done; I guess I don’t know these fancy things.

An art deco style vegetarian /whiskey joint? How awesomely strange! I love the dark, 1920’s/1930’s vibe going on here, they have a great selection of spirits to sample, and the wonderfully knowledgeable bartender will make spot on pairing recommendations. A good place to get slowly but enjoyably hammered.

I am a big fan of this place! If you know, like, love, or just interested in whiskey, this is where you gotta go! Yes there is another place that has whiskies in CWE, but Small Batch is where they know their drinks and also are friendly enough to give you some time and chat with you about what they have. Or if you just want cocktails, they have a decent list, though not too extensive as they are mainly about whiskies. On the food side, everything is vegetarian and I would never have guessed. The items on the menu are quite good and I’m not vegetarian, Try whatever sparks your interest as just about all of the items are good. The ambiance of the joint is a little prohibition era and the upstairs is a nice touch. The crowd is definitely more of a hip one and you’ll probably see some classy looking people. Only odd thing is that it’s in an odd spot of town. Big recommend!

Wow! So amazing! Just visiting and the bartender sent me to all the right places for the rest of my stay. Try the whiskey sour … Yum yum. The food is vegetarian and delish. Really love the pickle plate too!

BF and I come here fairly often, about once a month I’d say. I like that it’s all vegetarian, and even though BF isn’t one, he really likes it too. BF gets the rigatoni every time. It’s one of his favorite foods ever. A little spicy which surprised us, but very good. I’ve had the stuffed shells, which were really lemony which was too bad for me because I don’t like lemon. Cavatelli was ok but I didn’t love it. Carbonara was really good. But so far the baked ziti was the best. I wish they’d add it to their menu forever and for always. Similar to the rigatoni, but not spicy. Service is always good. I’ll keep coming back.

I was really excited to go to Small Batch with my mom on a Saturday night. Since they don’t take reservations we weren’t sure how long it would take to get seated but we were seated right away. Our server’s name was Tiffany and she was great. We had some questions for her about the history of the place and the décor and she told us about the designer(the owner’s sister). I had the Angel’s Envy bourbon which was recommended by Tiffany since I have no previous experience knowing what to choose. It was excellent! The presentation was great too, they served it with ice AND an eyedropper to add a few drops of water to dilute it. Before they served the food they brought a small piece of tortilla chip topped with different salsas to prepare the palate — very classy and tasty. As for food we shared a house salad, the rangoon, and the carbonera pasta. Loved the rangoon, it was very flavorful. Salad was yummy, though average. And the cauliflower bits in the carbonera were delivious. All in all I will definitely come back here to try more bourbons! Thanks for a great night

This place is amazing. Firstly the drinks are great, the cocktails are artisan if I may say so. They are not expensive(the drinks) in my opinion; they’re not cheap, but not expensive. You get what you pay for, if that makes sense. They’re around $ 7-$ 9 for the cocktails. Let me tell ya, the cocktails aren’t your basic Shirley Temple, I am talking about some fancy stuff that you cant just get at any local bar. The food is actual heaven. I was kinda sketch about the idea of their food, not because it sounded bad or I heard bad things, but I mean it’s a bar and bar food in my opinion is alright. Plus i thought they’d be cuisine sized. However, I was completely wrong! My friend got a pasta(which I tried) and it was delicious! Plus the size was fine if not plenty. I was not hungry so I ordered the Ferments and Pickled, and being a connoisseur of fermented and pickled food I must say it exceeded my expectations and set the bar higher than it was. We both got dessert. She got the vegan brownie with coconut ice cream: so soft and moist and the ice cream made me cry of happiness. I got the cheesecake. GUYS, GETTHECHEESECAKE. I died and came back to life. I am pretty subtle on cheesecake, but this. man oh man. This was like straight from the gods. I do not know exactly how to describe it but take my word: get the cheesecake. Finally, the place itself was perfect. Super cute and quaint with a rustic feel. The service was great and so was everything. Definitely plan on coming back!

We dined here a year ago and liked it. On our second and most recent visit we were very impressed. We shared a number of small plates and soup: Polenta cakes, Veggie potstickers, tomato explosion salad and a bowl of lentil soup. All were expertly prepared and simply fantastic. Only flaw I could find was the peanut sauce on the potstickers seemed overly salty. Atmosphere and service were excellent too. Bravo! We’ll return soon.

Only been here for brunch so for so my experience may have been different than the typical visit but this place really makes a great impression. Beautiful design and and classic 30’s fixtures and styling draws you in and sets high expectations of attention to detail that the menu and food coming out of the kitchen definitely live up to! I had the banana blueberry French toast which was delicious and although I don’t remember what my companions had exactly I do recall that after a quick tasting I was confident that none of us were feeling the infamous«order envy»!, lol. Everything on the table was tasty and we all left satisfied and not missing the meat as all 3 of us can be predisposed to feeling at times. Every aspect of this restaurant speaks to an intentional design and it all works! Of course since we came for the brunch now of us sampled the extensive whiskey selection for which they are known(give us a pass, 10am on a Sunday) so a return later in the day for another meal is definitely a requisite in my mind. I look forward to once again being not disappointed to say the least!

My fiancé came here with other people and then dragged me here a couple months later because he couldn’t stop thinking about a particular pasta dish. He loves meat so I was rather surprised that he wanted vegetarian. Since then we’ve been 3 times and I haven’t been too disappointed yet. His favorite pasta is the mushroom one with cajun cream sauce. The asparagus is cooked to perfection in it. It’s a bit spicy for my taste, but still delicious. The carbonara was one of my favorites. I’m not technically supposed to be eating pasta right now but it was so flavorful that I literally couldn’t stop. It doesn’t help that the portion sizes are huge for the pastas! The poutine is the best I’ve ever had. I’ve had poutine in both Montréal and Toronto but I never liked it as much as I have here. The chopped green onions over the top are so fresh and add so much to it. The fries are perfectly crispy with the best cheese on top. I don’t care much for fries but I could eat these a lot. One of the times I went for dinner, I tried the avocado tacos but the soft tacos weren’t soft. They were cooked a bit too much and were too chewy and hard to eat. So i picked out the insides and essentially ate an avocado salad. They would have been great otherwise. My friend ordered a risotto that night that was simply divine. The cocktails and whiskey list are fun to go through too. I like that you don’t feel like it’s a vegetarian restaurant and I love the way they’ve decorated the space. It’s a great option for a date night or just catching up with friends! I will be back.

Whiskey, to me, seems to the be quintessential drink of the carnivore, conjuring up images of hunting lodges where the day’s fresh kill roasts on a spit above the fire, soon to have its flesh rent from bone in a primal and base example of the circle of life. And, so when I hear of this restaurant with a whiskey menu that is four times longer than its dinner menu, the last thing I expected to see is that this place is 100% vegetarian. Was this a joke? Is it just a phase, or a special menu for the week? Certainly, a whiskey bar can’t be taken seriously when all of that liquid machismo is undercut by a bunch of twigs and nuts and berries. And yet it works. More than that, it succeeds brilliantly. I’m a carnivore, but not much of a whiskey connoisseur, so a recent visit to Small Batch should have been a miss on both accounts. But, much to my surprise and delight, the experience was top-notch from start to finish! Right upon stepping in, I was digging the décor, which is a melding of a 1920s speakeasy, replete with victorian wallpaper, with distinctively modern accents. The large windows and the early hour meant that natural light abounded. I started off with a flight of small batch bourbon, determined to give it one more chance. The selections were varied, and I can imagine they tasted good if you’re into that sort of thing. The ladyfriend had a cocktail that was superb. We started with some poutine, and I have to say, this was one of the best baskets of poutine I’ve ever had. The fries were crisp and sturdy, with an amazing flavor, and the cheese and gravy were spot-on. We were both blown away. For our entrees, I got the tacos, which were a trio of crisped avocados on slaw, tucked into a few different shells. The soft shells were very traditional, with excellent flavor and texture. The crispy taco was in a really dynamite hard tortilla that was infused with some spices. Phenomenal. The ladyfriend had the sweet potato gnocchi. I am not typically a fan(don’t like the texture of gnocchi), but these were something entirely different. While the texture was definitively gnocchi, the flavors of the sweet potato and the maple brown butter gave the whole dish a sweet and savory flavor that hinted at french toast. It was super good. I wish we had time to stay for dessert, but we had to head off to the theatre. As good as the show was, on the way home, all we could talk about was dinner. If you’re a vegetarian, this is an easy recommendation. Even if you’re not a vegetarian, this is still an easy recommendation. With food this good, you won’t even care. We will be back.

Walking in you will definitely feel a Gatsby vibe, which is cool. We were seated on a Friday night with no problem. It was dark and rainy and that set the perfect mood. The staff was friendly and efficient. We started with the 3 pickled eggs(smoked paprika, mustard & tumeric, basil & tarragon) and the ferments & pickles plate(kimchee, red cabbage, green beans, and snap peas). Both were phenomenal. We shared a bourbon flight and tried some cocktails. The Manhattan was good but the cherry, for a craft cocktail, was disappointing. For my entrée I tried the gnocchi @ $ 14 Sweet potato, toasted pecan, bourbon cherries, arugula, sage brown butter. It was good but way too sweet for me. It reminded me of Thanksgiving and The bf said it tasted like cinnamon rolls. The cherries, arugula, and pecans were the best part. The bf had the cavatelli @ $ 13 Basil pesto, sundried tomato, spinach, artichoke, red onion, capers, kalamata, feta, white wine, olive oil. He liked his a lot. My complaints are that the pesto was thin and salty. We will most def be back but we won’t be making this a fave place in our go tos.

It was a rainy night, and the globe lights cast just the right glow for sampling splashes of Scotch and enjoying good conversation. It looked like the sort of place you might bump into Benedict Cumberbatch. I wasn’t sure I’d really like a vegetarian place, but was pleasantly surprised by just how much I enjoyed the food. We started with some small plates and salads. The GREENS — smoked gouda, pretzel croutons, bourbon cherries, spiced walnuts, maple-blueberry vin — reminded me of salads I’ve enjoyed at Bailey’s Range. The BRUSCHETTA was prepared gluten-free for Therese H., w/almond-crusted brie, sage, and bourbon apple compote, and was as beautiful as it was tasty. Then, we moved on to larger plates. My CAVATELLI — basil pesto, sundried tomato, spinach, artichoke, red onion, capers, kalamata, feta, white wine, olive oil — was served in a large bowl, and was delicious! Therese H. had a special: RISOTTO — blue cheese, arugula, wild mushrooms — again, prepared gluten-free. We were with another couple, everyone had something different, and we all enjoyed everything very much. My scotch expert friend even taught me how to use the fancy eyedropper thing to put spring water in my glass to open up the aroma and flavors of the whiskey. Somehow, I missed that on my trip to Scotland. I think they just use small pitchers there.

I had an amazing dinner experience at Small Batch. First up, their 1920’s throwbacks vibe easily reach level 100. Seriously though, perfect bar and décor. It’s very unique. Don’t let the ‘vegetarian’ menu scare you away. I’m a big fan of bacon, burgers, and everything in-between but had an amazing meal. +Pickled Eggs: First time having them and loved it. Our table got it as a starter. +Cocktails: Phenomenal. This is a craft cocktail lounge so indulge a little! +Carbonara Pasta: Delightful. It had plenty of flavor, was filling, and wasn’t lathered in «heavy» butter and cheese +Dessert: You have to get the whiskey bread pudding, caramel sauce, vanilla ice cream. It changed my life. I can’t wait to come back here. It’s a fairly good price-mark…not too spendy but a nice place for dinner. Can’t wait to come back!

Oh my good lord this place is wonderful. I have no idea how it took me so long to get to Small Batch, but I know with certainty that I’ll be back very soon. I went for dinner a little while back followed by brunch the next weekend, and while both were great, dinner is where this place really shined. I bet their brunch will eventually be as great, as well. As far as drinks go, you really can’t go wrong. My favorite with dinner are the Spicy(peppercorn-infused mezcal, reposado tequila, grapefruit bitters, sugar) and the Shrubbly(strawberry-hibiscus shrub, ginger liqueur, Fernet, cava). For brunch, I love the Melon(Pinckney Bend corn whiskey, elderflower, maraschino, red wine float, watermelon). Is your head spinning? Because it should be. There are so many choices and I really don’t think you can go wrong. Five stars all around for the drink list. For dinner, we tried a few things… the pickled eggs are 100% what you should start with. One order comes with three different eggs(smoked paprika, mustard & tumeric, basil & tarragon), and it’s awesome to share or just to eat on your own, if you’re lucky. For my main course, I ordered the Rigatoni, made with tomato-basil pesto, red pepper, roasted tomato, pine nuts, and asiago. I’m pretty sure I’ve never had more pasta in my life… it was just too good to only have a little. The tacos were also a big hit at our table. Also, just say YES when your server asks if you’d like to end your meal with the whiskey bread pudding. Brunch was good, just not as good as dinner. I enjoyed my omelet, but I think the best dish is the slinger, made with biscuits, two eggs, kale, black pepper gravy, and crimini bacon. The french toast had a strong taste to it that we couldn’t pinpoint, but it was just A-OK. That being said, the place is gorgeous and the cocktails are fantastic, so it was still very enjoyable. The service shines at Small Batch, and I hope to see them having more and more success. I’ll be back for dinner very soon, and to try more of the cocktail list!
