The Royal Dumpe

We went here for my mother’s 50^th. She enjoyed it, but my date and I were extremely underwhelmed.
Honestly, I had a terrible time. First, it took an hour to park. When we did find a spot, it was about half a mile away.
I was running late due to getting stuck at work. We were there with a big group and they just let our food get cold instead of waiting to bring it out when we arrived. The chicken was cold and bland. Very small portions for the price you paid.
The entertainment was mediocre at best. The staff is more worried about the show than customer service. I get some of it is part of the schtick, but the waitstaff was terrible.
Also, you have to pay for everyone you make reservations for even if they don’t show. Also you have to pay in cash.
A poor man’s Medieval Times. Go see Shakespeare in the Park for free instead!

Anything less than 5 stars is just crazy. Went on a first date with a beautiful woman this past Saturday. I’m pretty sure every single staff member visited our table. Decent food (I’m picky though and food is my passion as an Executive Chef). Top notch entertainment. Why have I never heard of this place? Maybe because I live in Illinois. To all of my friends who kept this gem hidden from my life… piss off.

For a St. Louis experience. Do not miss the opportunity to enjoy a good evening with friends and a lot of laughs

Our wench got very nasty because we did not have cash!!! If you plan on visiting please bring cash or you might feel the wenches wrath!!! She argued with 3 different couples at our table. And because of the credit cards it took her forever to redo our bill. an extra 15 min. Is it that hard to add? Very rude, I don’t care if you have been there for 15 yrs. You obviously need a vacation.
Food-​inedible.
O Stars. I would have given a bit better rating if not for our old, rude, waitress. The best part of the night was finally being able to leave. Do not go there hungry. You will be disappointed. Will not go back, will not recommend.
DONT bring the kids, the jokes can be very crude.

I really can’t believe we stayed as long as we did. The jokes became more and more vulgar as the show progressed, with no hint of real acting, plot development, or talent. The food was not even close to good, as in, I would have much rather had some KFC, yet the price was through the roof. What a pity. It was like watching the part of Les Miserables with «Master of the House», only the small amount of music was poorly written, and rated-​R. I didn’t know what to expect. Should have known it is a dive that is raunchy and boring. The Royal Dump! Aptly named. We left early to get some real food.

All hail! Waasail!
My husband and I accompanied his sister to the Royal Dumpe for an event with her work. Having never been, and only hearing bits and pieces about it, I was curious what it was all about.
You have to have a reservation and it must be made by phone. You reserve it by credit card however once there, if your entire party pays with cash, you get money off. Not a totally bad deal however the prices will get you once you pay for drinks, which are not included in the price of the meal and theatre show.
If they seat you at the front, nearest the stage, be prepared to be a part of the show. My husband was deemed «the keeper of the salt» and the ladies were the ones who had to go to him to get it for their men and had to kiss him on the cheek in order to get the handout.
The food is very plain — regular flat chicken breast, soup, bread, veggies, baked potato then cheesecake bites for dessert. Nothing fancy but it does fill you up.
It is located on Laclede’s Landing, next to the Big Bang. Shows are only on Fridays and Saturdays. Just a heads up — every show is the same. No matter the month, day, year, you will see the exact same show every time you go — except for Christmas. They said they change it up a bit then but otherwise it is the same.
Not everyone will enjoy the humor, the food, the atmosphere but it is worth seeing at least once.
The best part? You will get a stick so you can aptly say, «I banged all night at the Royal Dumpe.»

If I could give this place zero stars, I would. We were taken here for a birthday dinner with several other people, so the only saving grace was that we didn’t have to pay. The whole dinner/​show is about 2 – 3 hours of agony. The food was bad, and the acting was worse. The show is too long, and is filled with jokes that aren’t funny. The only thing that’s accurate about this place is it’s name, as it truly is a «dump»! I can promise I’ll never come back.

Interesting experience, but don’t think it was worth the money.
Food:
–Well, especially given the whole medieval setting and «wenches» serving soup out of a large metal bucket and all, I felt like I was dining on refuge food at a fallout shelter.
–I think most people liked the straight-​out-​of-​grocery-​stores-​bread, because that’s all we had to eat for the hour and half before the first «course» of soup was served.
Setting:
–The place is a lot better decorated for the whole renaissance feel than it looks in those awful website pictures.
–All the servers/​waitresses («wenches») dressed/​acted their part throughout our stay.
The Show:
–About 2 and half hours filled with unoriginal dirty jokes told/​sung in a renaissance voice. I simply wanted them to stop and serve the next course of refuge meal.
–It was just awkward and I might’ve enjoyed it better if I’d drunk half a handle beforehand, but then I might just pass out on the table instead.
–I commend the cast for doing a good job being in character and all that courage, but I’d be horrified if one of the «wenches» up on the stage was my mom.
Afterward, I walked out to the real world on The Landing wondering what the fuck just happened.

The entertainment is GREAT and the whole experience is lots of fun… but the food they serve makes you wonder if there’s really a kitchen in the back. Again tho — you really go for the experience :)

You don’t go to a place like the Royal Dumpe expecting the food to be spectacular, the acting to be fantastic, and the night to be cheap. You go there for the experience! The food was good, the acting was fun, and the night was what I expected.
To be clear, this establishment is supposed to mirror that of a medieval times restaurant, but is definitely a smaller scale version. It’s located at Laclede’s Landing next to the big bang. Chances are you’ve passed it, but never really knew what it was.
I believe they’re only open on Fridays and Saturdays and I think you have to make reservations in advance. If you’re planning to go with your family, I would suggest a Friday night. the Saturdays (from what I’ve heard) tend to be more on the raunchy side and might cause some awkwardness for your Aunt Cheryl and cousin Meg.
It’s about $ 25 a person from what I remember and that doesn’t include drinks, but it’s dinner theatre, so it’s pretty «par for the course» in that regard.
Not everyone will enjoy the humor or the food, but I thought it was charming. If you’re looking for a unique outing with some friends who would be good sports, I’d check it out!

I’m going to keep this very short and sweet. The Royal Dump is the poor man’s Medieval Times. Food=bad, prices=very bad, acting=atrocious. I absolutely cannot stand this place. So not fun.
