I’m afraid that this place won’t last long if management doesn’t get their act together. The show and performers were OK, but pretty much everything else was a disappointment. Who runs out of Jack Daniels before the first show? I was surprised upon being told that we could only order food from the left side of the menu because it was the first night of the show. That meant that our only choices were 1) pork steak or 2) a hamburger with chili, a fried egg and hash browns(all piled on the burger) and the only side item was French fries. The right side of the menu had a plethora of choices, but was off limits. The burger was warm and might have simply been a unique gastronomic experience but it was burned on both sides and dry throughout. The only part of it that I truly enjoyed was the Krispy Kreme donut that was used as the bun. The fries– meh. The pork steak was cold. It’s not that it was barely warm, it was cold as though it had sat in the hallway for a while before being brought out. The wait staff was pleasant and since we came for the show we didn’t raise hell about the food– just tried to have fun with the show. If you want a different entertainment experience, it is certainly that, but don’t get your expectations too high.

I really wanted to like this place. Food, burlesque, girls dressed in fun outfits. What’s not to like? Nothing besides the really slow kitchen that took an hour and a half to get our dinner out and the food came out literally one plate every 5 to 10 minutes. So the first people at our table was done by the time the last ones got served. It has potential but I don’t see how it can go on like this. The food is tasty. They just need to get it together…

Absolutely love The Backlot Bears! We attend our first show at the stratford inn and it was great so we were super excited to come check out 708! We had bought tickets to opening day and due to unforeseen circumstances we were unable to attend. After sending an email we were allowed to use those tickets for the last Comics after dark show. LOVEDIT! We have already bought our tickets for NYE and plan on attending the Freakshow as well. The food was great. And the 64 oz Mai Tai was awesome. The halloween drinks special were very good as well! Can’t wait to be back in November! My husband had attended other burlesque shows in the St Louis area and he felt them to be very judgey! Not with Backlot! We will definitely be repeat costumers!

This is a date night spot for my husband and I. We have seen two shows here together, and my husband has seen three. I feel this is a breath of fresh air for the landing in downtown St Louis. It differs greatly from the previous clubs that were down there, that were trying to be insanely upscale. They were not inviting to patrons who have money, like me. Now they’re closed go figure. The show is amazing. It is a different show every time we come here. The staff has never disappointed us. The show is very well rehearsed and the costumes are great. Of course I’m a fan of live theater and improv. The performers are all different shapes and sizes. Which is awesome! It reminds me of when I lived in Las Vegas and the shows I would attend. There were shows/clubs that were off/on the strip and on Fremont street, that are comparable to this place. One suggestion I would give you guys, is to serve food before the alcohol. Just by my own experience working in bars. When they have something on their stomach they’ll drink more. Myself personally I need something on my stomach before I drink, otherwise I’m throwing up. And… no one wants that. I know people get drunk quicker on an empty stomach, but better safe than sorry. Unfortunately, when we were there on Halloween night, my food arrived at intermission after I ordered it before the show started. However it was convenient; because, I wasn’t having to pay attention to the show and eat. It just depends on how hungry a person is. Maybe ask a customer«do you want it at intermission or do you want it now?» Yet when my food came out it was hot and delicious. The waitress was very sweet and apologetic that the food was taking so long. The menu lists typical American style food. From bar pretzels with pub cheese, to hamburgers. The drink menu is creative albeit on the pricey side however the Mai Tai is perfect to share or get tossed off your butt. Not disappointed just a suggestion. Another thing is the audience participation is hilarious. I cannot wait for future shows. They have some depraved acts, but if you’re entering a burlesque show really you shouldn’t have a closed mind. They can’t decide what the audience member does with a banana. In conclusion, this club 708 brings a breath of fresh air to St Louis nightlife. I don’t feel like I’m surrounded by hipsters. I can’t even see a drag show now without some kid in glasses telling me about the nineties. Kid I lived it! You were nothing but a twinkle in your dad’s eye back then. Kudos 708 keep it up !

I want to love this place. I really do. However my experience here as a first timer left a bad taste in my mouth. We began seating ten minutes before the show started, servers started coming around taking orders at all of the tables, of course except for ours. My group didn’t even even order our drinks until after the entire room had received theirs. I didn’t receive the beer that I ordered until 45 minutes into the show after asking twice. My friend ordered a rum and pineapple and was disappointed to report that she didn’t even think there was alcohol in it. We ordered food at the same time that we ordered drinks. I was told after ten minutes that they were out of the pretzels and cheese that I ordered. I ordered sliders thirty minutes later. Apparently there was only one chef working and somewhere into the show he called it quits and walked out. The server broke the news that we would not be receiving food and offered complimentary drinks, which was fine for two of us but shafted my friend who was the designated driver. After the show was over and everyone was beginning to leave my sliders appeared. No one else’s food, the food that was ordered last. The show was entertaining but featured four men and two women. You couldn’t see half of the show because of the large columns blocking center stage for most people. There are two large mirrors on the side walls and I would gather that they were trying to curb the column issue but it isn’t working. It was entertaining but not sexy. It was more funny than anything. The shows host was pretty great as the joker and it was obvious that he and the woman playing Harley Quinn had experience(I think they’re the owners maybe?). I want to give this place the benefit by saying that I want to come back and try it again, maybe my first time experience here was just a fluke. The food that came out for other tables looked fantastic, wish I could have tried it.

These reviews have to be fake. I was so excited to see this show but This show was absolutely horrible… A whole bunch of amateurs. Not one person danced correctly to a beat and as much as I’d like to, i wont even talk about the cast members’ physical appearance because i have nothing nice to say. Vip is a joke!!! Dont waste your money on it and after you see the show you wont even want to take pics with the cast unless you just want to for shits and giggles. The room is so small you can see the show very clearly from anywhere EXCEPT the vip rows near the aisle as there are two huge poles flanking the center of the stage. Some guy is doing the scarf acrobatics looked like he just started taking classes last week. There was nothing sensual, sexy, or graceful about this show. If you do decide you want to go I’d def hit up a certain group discount site. This was the biggest waste of 50 bucks ever. The whole show was just awkward. Very disappointed.

Walking in you are hit with the sensation of that«home town» bar feeling. The cast and crew and very gracious host; very attentive and courteous. The only thing better then the service is the food! Fresh made mood, made to order and never frozen. If you have a hardy appetite, I suggest trying the 708 or Joe Dirt burger. Very feeling and there is enough for a left over drunken snack. Which brings me to the drinks. The house 708 stout is a beer among beers. Created by the owner, Elliot Winter, and brewed by Excel, it’s pretty much the go to drink to wash down your burger with. Finally, the theater is amazing! Not a bad seat in the house. The performers are very gifted and the routines were quite stellar. Each one added a different bit of flare to the troupe, the helps to create a brilliant night out. So in conclusion, 708 is a fun place to go for either a fun night out or an after work drink. Come alone or bring friends, either way you’ll be in for a great night.

The waitress was really friendly and helpful! The owner came up to our table and was awesome. Their tacos are cheap and really good. I really recommend the mac and cheese. The music was fun as well as the atmosphere. I recommend it!

The waitress was really fun! The owner came up to my friend and I and had a nice convo with us about what was going to be going on at the restaurant throughout the week. Great atmosphere and good music! I’d recommend it!

Tried the Home Alone Burger, menu says burger is served on house made macaroni and cheese bun.(There is no bum!) Burger is served between two scoops of macaroni cheese. Also it was a little on the salty side and not hot. Atmosphere was great! They have spent a lot of time decorating… will try again.
