I think this place looks really good for dinner, so if you’re looking for dinner go ahead on to someone else’s reviews. This review is for a couple of just OK mid-week brunches. I wake up really hungry, and since there aren’t a ton of options to walk to from the hotel I was staying in, I wound up at Station Grille. Likely because it was a quiet December mid-week, the restaurant was super empty each time I ate here. The buffet was okay, but the bulk of the food was lukewarm or cold. It made it somewhat tough to eat despite being so hungry. I went up for an English muffin but there was no toaster, and the strawberries were damn near white they were so out of season. Bah. There was a saving grace that made this $ 15 brunch worth it; the omelette station. They have a ton of solid ingredients to add into it and it is made fresh. Add in some delicious coffee to this brunch and it made it alright. The price tag is a bit steep for what you get here, but for an alright brunch it does in a pinch.

After an exhausting day at work I really just wanted to step down to the main floor and find a nice quiet place for dinner. The main hall was just way too noisy for my taste. Went back to the Station Grille and found a cozy seat in a booth. The waitstaff were extremely polite, called me by my name and provided excellent recommendations! The roast chicken was to die for. Truly melted in my mouth. Decided to come back the second evening & ordered the cheese plate and a meatball soup. Excellent! Definitely a highly recommended hotel dining experience!

Very nice breakfast buffet, with excellent quality fruits, well prepared basics(plus smoked salmon), and pastries. I also enjoyed a good salad with added chicken for lunch(the smaller portion was plenty for lunch at a very reasonable price. The staff were very pleasant and helpful.

The burger was rich in flavor. The Cream Brûlée sampler was delicious. Service was friendly but slow, Make sure you go to the Union Station lobby for the light show and enjoy a specialty cocktail

I seriously have no idea why the reviews and ratings are so bad for this restaurant! All I can say is that from the service to the food. everything was phenomenal! I am staying at the double tree(here for work) and decided to give this a try. I ordered the ribeye and a glass of Pinot noir. The steak was prepared just the way I asked(med rare center with char outside) the mashed potatoes even were delicious(I am super picky about my potatoes!!) My server was very polite and knowledgable too. Also my boyfriend and I are big time steakhouse addicts; we go at least once a week(mostly high end places over $ 100 a steak). This one at $ 24 was no less than the ones I have had for more $$$. Definitely will eat here again before I leave.

Hadn’t read any reviews before eating here. Ate at the bar twice and twice for breakfast in the dining room. Had no complaints about the food or service. The staff is really pleasant and welcoming. The BLT for breakfast was one of the best sandwiches I’ve ever had. Mac and cheese for dinner should not be missed.

I didn’t read the other reviews first so I wouldn’t be influenced by what they said. Am here for supper the night before a marketing conference. One drawback due to not being busy on a Tuesday night was that nobody was manning the hostess station. At first I wondered if they were open. They were. After being seated the wait staff was friendly and personable. They asked my last name and used it throughout the meal. I asked the server Armin what he suggested. And I went with the ribeye which also had mashed potatoes and asparagus. My wife will be proud that I are my greens. The steak was prepared pretty close to my requested medium well. It was close enough that I didn’t ask for any additional cooking. The amount of fat around the edges was moderate and the garlic butter(?) on the side added to the flavor. I’m a simple guy who usually asks for A-1 sauce but not tonight. The steak was flavorful and juicy. At $ 26 it was fairly priced for a place like this. I’ve had more expensive steaks that weren’t as good. Also tried the local beer Schlafly ale although I’m normally a Bud Select guy. Quite good. At $ 5.50 the beer was a fairly generous draft by hotel standards. I will come back and hope to give it five stars then. Tonight it’s four.

Not sure why the reviews aren’t better here, or why there are so few. Yes, it is a hotel restaurant(inside Union Station, in the Doubletree), but the food and the service were both excellent. If you’re staying at the Doubletree, and looking for a nice place to eat, with high ceilings and class from a previous age, stay in — it’s not worth the drive elsewhere. From what my husband and I were told(by our very friendly, yet professional server, Mark), the menu was revamped about 4 months ago. We were here for dinner. The bread that was brought to the table was pretzel bread, served warm(why doesn’t every restaurant that serves bread serve it warm?) with whole grain mustard butter.(Everything that is good about mustard and butter, all rolled into one.) We started with the Toasted Ravioli($ 9 for 5LARGE ravioli). A St. Louis tradition, that were crisp and meaty, sitting on a bed of marinara and cheese. We also had the Seared Scallops($ 14 for 3) a bit pricey, but super tasty. Well seasoned, perfectly seared and each sitting on a tiny bed of ginger apple carrot purée. Wish I could’ve had a bucket of that stuff. Also had a little afterburn that was quite nice as well. For dinner, my husband ordered the butternut squash ravioli($ 16), and I had the grilled pork tenderloin($ 22). The ravioli were delicious. Toasted pinenuts gave them a great texture. My pork was perfectly cooked and I also could’ve had a bucketful of the smoked Gouda grits, which is surprising, because I don’t particularly care for grits. I do have two criticisms, though. Number one, the seasonal vegetable was broccolini and was a bit heavy-handed with fresh garlic. I usually love garlic, but because the flavors of everything else I ate were so subtle, the garlic was a bit overpowering. Also the tenderloin came with a bacon apple jam — one more thing that should’ve been more of a bucket full, than a scant teaspoon, but, I suppose, in some cases less is more. We finished with the gooey butter cake. According to the menu it says it’s a «St. Louis original.» I don’t know if that’s true or not, but everything was delicious and was not cloyingly sweet. The perfect end of a very nice meal.

Ordered room service. They said it would be 1.5 hours. Okay fine… Ordered a salad and edamame. 2 hours goes by, call. «It’s on its way up». Okay fine. 30 minutes goes by, call. «It’s not up there yet? Let me call the kitchen». Nevermind… Cancel the order. It’s Sunday. At 9pm. Now it’s 1130, starving. Horrible. Disappointed.

After looking at several reviews, I think this place was part of a Hyatt hotel, then Marriott, and now Hilton– Double Tree. Well whatever it was before(which the reviews weren’t great) it is definitely awesome now! I’m not exaggerating when I say this was one on of the BEST breakfasts I’ve ever had. The set up is buffet but you can have fresh omelets or eggs prepared to your liking. My fiancé enjoyed the selection of fresh ingredients for his omelette. The meats were cooked perfectly, and hash-browns were crisp but not over done. There were also waffles with lots of toppings, but I didn’t save room for them! The second part of the gourmet buffet was an array of fresh fruits, steel cut oats with the largest selection of toppings imaginable, and a bakery section complete with muffins, bagels, and breads. The steel cut oats were the best oats I’ve ever had… pretty shocking at a «hotel» restaurant. I topped mine with fresh blueberries, a dab of honey, shaved almonds, and walnuts. It was $ 49 for 3 of us for breakfast, so definitely not an inexpensive option but it was very worth it!

I had breakfast and dinner at the Station Grille, and also drinks in the lounge area near the hotel main entrance. I’ll review all three experiences here. Breakfast: pretty good, but expensive. We went with the buffet($ 15/person). The buffet is split into two sections, a «hot» section and a «cold» section. The hot section food(eggs, etc) looked a little old. The cold section(muffins, fruit, etc) looked great. I was uncertain about the buffet until the waitress mentioned that you can get an omelette cooked to order; that sealed the deal. The omelette was great, the oatmeal, muffin and fruit from the cold section were great, but the hot section food tasted as old as it looked. At 9:00 on a Thursday morning, the place was practically empty. Dinner: OK, but horribly overpriced. My girlfriend had mac & cheese with chicken. The mac & cheese was good but the chicken was bland and rubbery. I had a caesar salad, which was fine except for the fact that it had a nasty piece of raw fish(salmon?) added in. At 7 on a Thursday evening, the place was deserted. We were the only customers, and in fact we had trouble finding someone to seat us. The waiter(Eric) was very nice. Lounge: very nice atmosphere, but service was a little slow. A great place to relax.

The hotel lobby is gorgeous and bar area is in the middle of it. The hamburger was amazing but it is a little expensive. I’ve had the buffet a couple of times… All was good.

Had a great meal here last night. I started with a pork appetizer with kraut. Excellent combination. For main meal I had the chicken risotto. The sauce on the dish really hit the combination of the two. A must try. The wine served per glass is pretty generous. Tonight I went to nearby Landry’s… I wish I could have just gone back to the Grille instead.

This place sucks. I don’t know why Marriott continues to entertain it’s existence, but it does, and so it continues to exist. The menu looks fancy at first glance, and so it is possible to get excited about what you think could be an interesting meal. Not so fast. The food is NEVER as good as it sounds on the menu. It is ALWAYS a smaller portion than the price would seem to imply, and there’s just too much salt on everything(this coming from a girl who salts her McDonald’s fries). Marriott, please do your guests a favor and find a new restaurant for your hotel. This one is not doing you any favors.

As a frequent traveler, I’ve learned that hotel restaurants typically suck. This is no exception. I stayed at the Marriott Union Station this week(hotel is great, outside of the restaurant). I didn’t feel like venturing out in the bad weather, so went down to the restaurant — expecting it to be… not good. I got a ribeye, that came with«truffled potatos». Those turned out to be french fries. There was definitely a truffle flavor, and they were pretty good, but they were still french fries. I ordered my steak medium-rare. WHYISITSOHARDTOCOOK A STEAKTOTEMPERATURE??? Of course, as expected, it was well-done at the edges and medium-well in the middle. This has happened to me so many times that I’ve given up on complaining. Besides, I’m too paranoid that someone is going to give my food the«road trip» treatment… ;) So I choked down my overcooked steak & fries with a couple of(my fav) Beefeater & tonics. Cue the bill. The meal was something like $ 26, but when I got the bill it was over $ 50. A regular, not double, Beefeater & tonic was $ 12! That almost made me complain. After I finished my meal, I went to the lobby bar to drown my sorrows with… of course… another Beefeater. A double, in a pint glass(very generous pour, to within an inch or so of the top of the glass) was $ 13 at the lobby bar, approximately 50 feet from the restaurant. How does that work??? In short, it was exactly what I expected and what I’ve experienced over the years. For some reason, restaurants inside hotels always seem to suck. To the reviewer from San Francisco who got a good meal, either your experience was VERY differerent than mine or you need to look harder in SanFran! I’ve eaten some of the best meals of my life in that city, and this one is not in the same universe…

Had breakfast here on a Sunday morning. Paid $ 14 for a packaged yogurt, a bowl of fruit, and a cup of coffee. OUCH! Same prices as room service.(This is the restaurant for the Union Station Mariott) I should have just stayed in my room for that price since the service was entirely unnecessary, it being a buffet. Do yourself a favor — save $ 10 and head downstairs to the bagel joint for brekafast.

We dined at Station Grille over the weekend before the Blues game. Needless to say, it was dead. Only us and another table. This is fine dining? Don’t think so. Decent? Yes. Overpriced? Oh yeah. Since we had a friend from out of town with us, we had to introduce her to STL’s famous«fried ravioli.» Instead of the usual meat filling, it was a quite nice spinach/feta cheese mix. Only problem was they wanted us to eat it with ranch dressing. my arteries were already to be clogged with the feta. Nice thing they offer a marinara with the bread(which was interesting.) Entrees included: rib eye($ 35) with mushrooms, and a chicken tortellini with a spicy, puttanesca-like tomato sauce($ 25). Sides are additional(@$ 8). Again, why do I have a problem with«medium» in St. Louis? I queried the waitress about the definition of «medium» — «Oh, it’s red in the center.» Boy have I heard that before! I didn’t trust her and ordered medium rare. It came as she described medium. $ 50 says«medium» would have been the usual STL«lack of any color whatsoever.» The rib eye(didn’t feel the need to spend almost $ 40 for a NY strip) was fatty and stringy. Flavorful and juicy, but not a great cut of meat for the price. The chicken tortellini was good, but a bit overboard on the peppers. Tended to overpower the rest of the dish. Wait staff was pleasant and quick(had to be. Tumbleweeds were going down the aisles…) Nice ambiance. Biggest complaint? Way, way, way overpriced for the quality of the food.

This is why living in San Francisco spoils you. When it comes to «fine dining,» I’ve gotten picky. There was nothing wrong with The Station Grille. But it wasn’t really special either. We ate pretty good, simply prepared food, but nothing really amazed me. If you in St. Louis, check out some of the more neighborhoody or ethnic spots. Still, the hotel The Station Grille is in is beautiful. If you go, be sure to check out the Whispering Arch in the grand entrance to the main part of the Union Station. If you whisper on one side of the arch, a person standing on the other side can here it loud and clear thanks to an architectural phenomenon. Very strange and cool.
