Just do not know where to start. I had the worse experience I have ever had anywhere. I went to the restaurant for a take out order. I knew there would be a wait, but certainly not an hour wait for 3 sandwiches. However, during that hour and what I witnessed, I do not know how this establishment keeps their customers. There was maybe a total of five tables occupied with one waitress. One of the tables received half their order and waited approximately 15 –20 minutes for the remaining food. During this time, and all the while I was there the waitress was too concerned with the register and crying to properly wait on the tables. One couple came in and sat down and after approximately a half hour after not being waited on, nor receiving even a menu walked out. A customer came in to pick up a call in order, when the worker checked on the food she was told that the order had not been started, the customer complained that he was told a half hour and its been longer than that and the order still had not been started, he cancelled the order. Manager did not seem too concerned, since the order had not been started. Still the waitress was still crying and obsessed with the register. The manager??? unsure if it was manager or not was on the phone most of the time? heard him explain the waitress was having a hard day and just basically shut down, however he did nothing to help the situation. A call came in, apparently a delivery order did not get their total order and wanted the complete order. They replied that it would be out soon. The manager and another employee discussed what vehicle the would use to redeliver. Fifteen minutes goes by and another call asking what was taking so long for the missing items. Another customer who had been at one of the tables came up and explained to the employee he now wanted his order take out due to the time it was taking and he could no longer wait. When discussing the situation with him, he had been there longer than an hour. I had mentioned that the waitress had been crying all the while I was there due to whatever? and as he said there were only three tables that she needed to take care of. I had finally received my order and the above customer was still waiting. The waitress was still crying, all the workers obsessed with the registers and the food was not worth the wait. The mismanagement, quality of food and service was baffling. You be the judge.

Family owned Italian place. Tucked away. Old school. Seedy part of town. Run down a bit. Been around forever. That’s such an awesome recipe for success. Too bad they cooked the shit out of it, cause I was not impressed. I ordered the baked mostaccioli. A staple of any good Italian-American restaurant. No meatball?! Not even an option for meat sauce?! Ok, fine I’ll order a meatball with mine. Served on the side, really?! I guess I’d prefer the meatball to be warm also but that’s just a hang up of mine. When done right, ricotta cheese mixed in can be quite good. This was not. It dried out the whole dish. Really dry. Hardly any red sauce. I had to ask for some extra red sauce. The ricotta made it really grainy also, not smooth like it could have been. There was a nice amount of cheese baked on top however. A nice Italian spot to bring the family, right? I thought so, but there’s not a kids menu or any good options in sight for them. In fact, when I asked the server if they had a kids menu she looked like a deer in headlights. Then snapped out of it and said that they could order a small cheese pizza maybe? Was that a question or a solution? Not sure, just bring the cheese pizza. The pizza was passable but certainly nothing special. The sauce didn’t have much of a snap. The crust was fine but I’ve definitely had much better. A cheese pizza can be the real test of how good a pizza joint is. This didn’t pass that test in my mind. I will say that the dinner salad was good. Just iceberg lettuce but came with mozzarella, croutons, onions, and a really zingy and tasty homemade Italian dressing. There’s plenty of great Italian restaurants in the Twin Cities area, next time I’d probably check out one of those.

We ordered a bbq chicken pizza and mozzarella. It’s alright. Chicken didn’t have much flavor and there was barely any bbq sauce. It’s the kinda pizza you order when you are hungry, don’t want to cook and there aren’t many options for delivery in your area.

All I can say is YUM! Great pizza, loaded with toppings! They even deliver ice cream sundaes! Took a chance with ordering, as I am from out of town, and so glad I did! Try it. You’ll like it!

Pizza is good but the pizza you get is hit or miss; have received pizzas with the wrong toppings a few times. Tonight was green peppers instead of green olive. when I called the best they could do was for ME to bring it back for another… its -7 °F, 7:20PM on a Monday night… how about a simple apology JackAsses! Maybe a half off your next order… not my fault but I’m supposed to drive back over to return your fuck up! Prices went up significantly also…$ 17+ for a 3 topping Medium… I’m done!

When we don’t get Mama’s in Rice St we get Hearthside. They deliver so anytime the weather is bad and pizza on the menu this is the spot. Like it better than Johns but they are different styles.

3 stars because their chicken strips are pretty good. They give you a lot of fries which is also a plus. I’ve had a burger from here as well and it was decent. Delivery usually takes about 40 minutes. There is no menu online! I’ve looked all over. They also deliver shakes and malts. Not bad prices for what you’re getting.

Great Pizza. Haven’t been there for many years because I’ve moved farther away. They have a very unique pizza that tastes like no other, in a good way! After seeing this online, I will revisit them, it’s long over due!

Delivery is always timely… Food is always hot and salad is very fresh… I dont dine in but I see families there often. Weirdly enough, I’ve never tried their pizza. I usually get the spaghetti dinner special or some type of sandwhich… Very good!

Great pizza, a lot like carbones. They pack on the cheese and it’s delicious! Not too overly crowded on weekends either. Eating in I give it 3 stars, ambience isn’t the greatest on date night. Just kind of plain. But for good pizza, I highly recommend.

Great pizza! This has become my local staple; I order from here at least twice a month. If you like thin crust, do yourself a favor and give this place a try. Don’t be fooled by the interior. In fact, get it delivered the first time so it doesn’t affect your opinion. After that, you’d order this pizza out of a back-alley dumpster and not think twice *please note that the interior in no way resembles a back-alley dumpster, it just looks a little dated

This was our first time here. The Pizza is excellent. As other reviewers mentioned, the sauce is delicious. We were a table of 7 adults and 4 kids, and there was another family of at least 10+ already there. We were there early, around 1130AM, so there was only 1 server. It took a bit longer than usual to get service, but the server was so nice, she apologized for the wait and a few drinks she forgot. She was busy, we were not in a hurry, in was not a big deal. The only down side is the interior. It is bland and needs a good update. I will be back.

About a 3.5 actually. I’ve never actually eaten at Hearthside, but I’ve had take out and delivery a basket full of times. First time we had some friends in from out of town and we were STARVING after a long late afternoon/early evening of drinking. We ordered broasted chicken, a giant pizza, some wings and 2 different kinds of pasta. Everything was quite delicious. I really like the chicken and the pasta. The red sauce has a nice rich flavor. Pizza wasn’t bad, but I like the pizza a few blocks south a little better. The next time I order just chicken and baked mostaccioli, no salad. We were having people over and I was already making a big salad for everyone. The guy on the phone must have been very disappointed I didn’t want his salad. He said, «What? You trying to save a buck? I gotta charge you the same price.» I replied, «charge me the regular price and give the salad away. I do not need it.» Our guests really liked the chicken. If you’ve had the Coop in South St Paul, it’s pretty similar. I like Coop chicken the best, but this is a very close second. The outside is crispy and flaky, but I give that part to my husband and I eat the meaty and juicy insides. A little salty and whole lot good. Another attempt at chicken within the past couple weeks was met with a, «the broaster is broken.» Sadly, my husband got a steak sandwich, wings and I got the baked mostaccioli again, salad with ranch. I’m not sure why, but the ranch dressing is super delicious. Maybe cuz I always eat Light and this probably wasn’t? Are you sensing a theme? The chicken is damn good. He did not enjoy his steak sandwich, but I liked my pasta. Next attempt at chicken just this past weekend. Broaster was up and running — got the chicken, also got teriyaki wings and pizza fries. Wings were great and the pizza fries were good too. A little greasy for me, but they hit the spot. Will continue to be a go to for takeout and delivery.

If you’re looking for a good pizza on Rice St. I highly recommend continuing south to Mam’s on Rice and Front. Better sausage, more cheese and the best bread you can get. This place was okay, but nothing compared to down the street.

Hearthside reminds me of a comfy mom-and-pop dive that I might have frequented back home in rural Wisconsin. It’s the same ambiance, the same dated décor, the same friendly ‘seat yourself’ welcome sign. The staff are pleasant and very down to earth. Actually, the whole place is pleasant and down to earth. But that sauce… oh, the sauce is heavenly. This is what pizza sauce should be. It’s not fancy or fusion or spiked with cognac – it’s real, honest-to-goodness pizza sauce. And spread over the crispy thin crust, covered with a mountain of toppings and cheese, it takes me home in a split second(without all that driving on I-94).

So it’s not the most appealing location, but oh well. I had driven by this place many a time and finally stopped in after a friend endorsed their pizza. Tried their taco pizza which was quite good. Salsa, taco meat, lettuce, cheese plenty of fixins and plenty filling for two people. Had a good amount left over. They also have the build your own option which is nice when a place has a good amount of ingredients to choose from. The menu is pretty good sized. Pizza, sandwiches, pasta and malts. Kind of old school in décor and feel, but quaint and some place probably often overlooked due to the locale. I need to go back to try more of their pizza and sandwich options.

I really like this place. Nice simple dinner salads with excellent ranch dressing. Good selection of app’s– we had garlic cheese bread with marinara. It was great. My daughter had a cheeseburger with a huge pile O’ fries. She loved it. My son had a sausage and tomato pizza. He pronounced it better than Angelos– his favorite. We had the Polish pizza– sauerkraut, onion and polish sausage. AMAZING! Their crust is toasty and cracker crisp– what Savoy wished their crust was. Good sauce, not too much, excellent cheese and not too greasy. Some of the best pizza around. Not fancy schmancy, just excellent pizza. Our waitress was sweet, cheery and efficient. Free refills on pop too. The décor is dated, but I liked it. Wood floors, booths and simple bar-type tables– reminds me of all of the family restaurants scattered across out state MN. We will eat here more often, it just feels comfortable.

I was a little hesitant to try this place, its in an older strip mall on the corner of Lexington and Larpenteur, next to a dollar store and from the outside, looks a little grungy. I am so glad I didn’t judge a book by its cover because the food was awesome, service was great, and we found out they deliver in the process so overall very happy! What we ordered: Garlic Cheese Bread with Sauce– The Red Sauce is spectacular so note for self for next time, will be definitely to try a dish with red sauce. Broccoli/Chicken Wrap-This was an unusual item on the menu but was very good, probably one of the most healthy items on the menu. The Grinder-Spicy Roast Beef, grilled with onions/green peppers, mushrooms and cheese, served on homemade hoagie bread, then placed in the pizza oven. This was served with a side of Au Jus. This is comparable to a Philly cheese steak and this was A+ good. The décor is really 70’s which adds to the charm but it appears a little dirty so this is why only the four stars instead of the five. The prices for some items seem a little high especially for this neighborhood but we will definitely eat here again, maybe not inside the restaurant but we will definitely add this to our places for delivery.

The décor is a little ghetto but the food is delish and the portions are HUGE! Even my brother wasn’t a member of the Clean Plate Club and this is his favorite spot.
