Java Train has been renamed as Como Park Grill. Their menu has changed a bit; breakfast is still great and they still have the ice cream cones/cups. They have put in a bar. This is a great neighborhood place not too far from the fair grounds. They have redecorated. We have had their vegie wraps and they are excellent.

Finding out that they removed the kids area with the caboose really hurts my feelings! Being kid friendly is hard to find in a coffee shop and taking away this aspect changes my view on you Java Tain!

Java Train is a hidden gem. The food is consistently fresh and creative. The space itself is comfortable and inviting. It feels very«neighborly». The chicken curry sandwich is one of my favorites!

My traveling compatriot and I were starved; possibly near death. We were driving about town, praying to whatever deity would get us fed. Apparently common sense compelled us to look down a side street where we spotted a brightly painted building side. «Sandwiches! Soups! Salads! Pull over pull over pull over… NOW!» We slugged as rapidly into the building as our snow soaked boots would carry us. We sat and instantly agreed on a lunch special: TUNAMELT! Next, our«great minds think alike» eyes landed on NACHOS! We bought one of each and split both. Delish! Filling and the prices were just right… split. Our server was another red headed Swedish\Scandinavian local with a swift rhetoric and an even speedier step. Our stomachs were filled and bill paid in record time. We zombied to the car, our heads clouded with culinary victory. Well done, Java Train Café…

Bought a specialty soda that was listed as $ 2.25 on the menu, was told it would cost $ 1.99, which was fine by me. However, she went elsewhere to get change(they don’t have a register at the front desk, I guess? not really sure, I didn’t check) and when she got back told me it was $ 2.97 and gave me 3 cents back. By my calculation, that would be 32% tax, which I find unlikely. I’ll consider that her tip and not go back.

We came for the coffee, we stayed for my son to go nuts on the train but instead he slept on my shoulder. FYI — we did not have any of the food, but only the coffee, which was excellent. Not too sweet, not overly bitter. Seriously, I’m going to try this again on a day that my son isn’t sleeping.

They should call it the SLOWTRAIN. I stood around for awhile till I someone finally helped me. There’s definitely a lack of direction. Do I sit down or do I wait at the counter? If I want a specialty drink and food, do I order my drink at the counter then sit down? Confusing! Once I was seated, it took him awhile to bring me a menu, and took more time for him to come ask what I wanted. The food came in good time. I did enjoy the breakfast sandwich w/yogurt. It was a nice combination and reasonably priced. It is true that this place is good for kids, but the girl I nanny was uninterested. I think if she had a companion she’d actually play on the train. I think they just need to up their game on their service and then it’d be 4 stars.

Such a hidden jewel right next to the Como zoo! I recommend going to this place for breakfast, lunch, dinner — if you want to have a cup of coffee, sandwich and/or some Izzy’s ice cream! This place is such at treat and has an adorable play area in the back! What a magical dream for all ages!

This place has been tremendously up and down for me the past couple of years. Initial discovery was followed by many visits. Did the Bandanna Square Model Railroad/Java Train/Choo Choo Bob’s circuit a few times with the first kid. Will do it again I am sure with both this summer, and likely mix in Jackson Roundhouse if its the right day of the week. The staff here generally are great. They added food a while back and its okay. Nothing amazing, but way more than you would get at a normal coffee shop. And they have fun food items like worns-n-dirt muffins, and scoop ice cream from Izzy’s. The bummer is that the play are inside is filthy gross. If it would not break my daughter’s heart, I would not let her in there. I wish they’d have some sort of routine cleaning in there… or if they do, that it was more obvious. They have a pretty big seating area indoors, and a tremendous patio with a fun kid thing… that’s also really dirty and gross, along with the toys. I wish they’d go more playground rather than daycare in terms of their kid stuff(inside and out) but the kids don’t seem to care, so why should I? Great place.

Great neighborhood, family owned coffee shop gone café! I go here when I’m doing business actaully and find the food(breakfast and soups) delicious. I have a friend that is vegan and it’s great that they have food for her as well. If you or your kids have a gluten allergy, they have labels for gluten free items. Which is great when you’re meeting people and you don’t know if they have any food/drink preferences/allergies. I’ve had their oatmeal and pancakes and it was delightful. The service has always been quick. I enjoy the atmosphere because I can get work done without being bothered every 15 minutes.

Came here cause it was close to a friend’s house. We didn’t want to go out of our way to find a place, so we came here. Service was quick, friendly. Ice drinks come with bendy straws, a major bonus. The iced coffee I got here was only okay, but I’d be willing to give them a second chance.

Waited 50 minutes for a wrap sandwich. Enough said. Don’t go here unless you are prepared to be surrounded by whining and crying children and want to wait a ridiculous amount of time for food that is dry and not that good. After waiting almost an hour for my sandwich, I reluctantly went back for a cookie. It was good, but the cookie I got was half broken… couldn’t they at least give me a full cookie, or a free one for all of my trouble?

Tucked away from the hustle and bustle, this cute coffee shop caters to both the adults looking for a good latte and a place for those to bring their kids and enjoy a coffee! The lemon bars were ok, I’m thinking they should be more lemon than bar-but that’s just me. Boston Cream Pie, very good… a nice chocolate frosting on top instead of the usual thin glaze you find on most. My only complaint is that on two visits, the cashiers seemed borderline disinterested. As if you’re imposing. They could work on their customer service a bit, I’ll give them another try though. They have a great location, patio in the summer will be a plus and a good latte.
