Mark I Malterud, DDS

Dr. Mark Malterud and staff are amazing. In my past I’ve had terrible dental work as a child (on Medicaid) and some poor to adequate dental work over the years from other dentists, so I still had anxiety regarding possible dental work pain. Dr. Mark is the best dentist I have seen and I’ve been seeing him now for more than 15+ years, so my teeth are now in great shape. Liz is just wonderful. (Who knew getting your dental hygiene services could be such a joy?) When you call the office after hours, the answering message even provides Dr. Mark’s mobile number in the event of a dental emergency. I once had such an emergency so I know that this process actually works, as Dr. Mark and Colleen both met me at the office on a day when the office was typically closed to deal with a dental emergency that could not wait until Monday morning. On one occasion Dr. Mark referred me to an endodontist for some specialized care, but everything else has been handled in house. Dr. Mark uses newer technologies (less pain — yea!) and a more conservative approach, rather than overly aggressive approaches that damage underlying natural tooth structures. His services also helped he get rid of bothersome headaches that plagued me for years due to nighttime tooth grinding, by switching to an NTI splint, rather than the big mouth guards I would take out in my sleep and be fearful my dog would find. Dr. Mark & Liz are also great with children, as our daughter had her first (and all subsequent) dental vists at this office (so she hasn’t developed the dental work anxiety I developed from inadequate care).

Mark is a phenomenal dentist and one of the best in the twin cities. After several attempts at finding a great dentist a friend recommended Mark to me. I have issues with getting numbed properly if I have a need to get a cavity drilled, etc…, and Mark executed it perfectly. My exams were always very thorough. Mark also understands many other complex issues like TMJ which can be very a complicated issue to deal with. Many dentists say they understand these issues but I’m not sure they do. I can say Mark fixed my issue with clenching that I thought was unfixable.
The staff is also great. The lady that cleaned my teeth is a pro.
I moved out of Saint Paul and could no longer visit him, but I felt like I owed him a review. It’s been hard to find another dentist at his level.
