Inside it looked like someone had placed a coffee maker and cash register inside my grandma’s house, and it smelled like bleach. The restroom was even worse. All I ordered was a cup of coffee and the ‘for here’ mug was greasy on the outside. I stayed to get some homework done but I’d never go back.

Coffee and apple turnover we’re fine and good value but the shop itself was somewhat smelly on the interior so I did not stay long.

3.5 Stars Yay for local coffee shops! As I’ve mentioned in numerous reviews, one of my least favorite things about St Paul in general and the East Side in particular is the lack of coffee shops. So I was pretty darn excited when I came across reviews for Polly’s Coffee Cove on Payne. We stopped in recently before a road trip to Chicago. It’s definitely a friendly neighborhood spot. There were two men having a conversation about human nature out front, a table having some sort of prayer or religious meeting inside, and a woman came in after us for a coffee. There are many flyers posted for local events, some of which are hosted in the shop. We both noticed that it’s kind of cluttered, like a coffee shop opened in a thrift store. Polly’s also serves some food, such as pancakes, pizza, ice cream, and baked goodies. The barista/cashier was extremely nice and the drinks(one iced latte and one Americano) were a little less expensive than I am used to. My latte was overwhelmingly sweet, but I did appreciate that they use coffee ice cubes to keep the drink from getting diluted! My boyfriend’s only comment was that his Americano was«very hot,» but he finished it without complaint so I assume it was fine. Overall I’d give my latte 3 Stars but rounding up because the East Side desperately needs a coffee shop, and the fact that Polly’s is not a Caribou or Starbucks is even better.

I love trying local coffee shops. This place is cozy and always has different events going on. Plus the coffee is good and cheap. It is a good place to read a book while enjoying a cup of coffee and a sandwich.

Stopped in again today and was not disappointed with their iced mocha. 12 ounces for only $ 2.60 and free wi-fi not bad at all!

Nestled in a neighbor between Lake Phalen, Interstate 35E, and north of Maryland; this independent coffee shop has a unique clientele. Neighborhood groups of all kinds call it home. Fridays from 1pm to close an excellent pianist provides live music to sing along with. Don’t forget Grid 34 and the Tight Knit Group knitting club at 9:00 am and noon respectively on Saturdays. Serves Hometown Creamery Ice Cream Products.
