Big Derrick’s Barber Shop

Pop on in and enjoy a complimentary beer or pour of whiskey while you wait, or knock some balls around the pool table. This is a terrific barber shop with talented and friendly staff. Been coming here every 3 – 4 weeks since arriving in Salem about 6 months ago. Always tell myself to call a day ahead and make an appointment, but just end up dropping by, and hanging out until they get to my name on the list. If you get hungry while you wait there is the Chinese dumpling place right outside. Do a great job on my hair, always super customer service.

I am a woman and come here to get my undercut shaved every so often. I enjoy coming in here more than a salon for my undercut because they do a great job doing my fade. I get a design every so often and am very pleased with what I’ve been able to get and with the price. My husband comes here about once a month and gets a haircut, beard trim and straight razor shave. It’s a good place for him to go and relax for a little bit while he bros out with the guys. He always comes home looking sharp and feeling great. Thanks for everything guys!

I moved to Salem this summer and after a butcher job at Supercuts, I limped into Derrick’s to see if they could help me. Derrick kindly cleaned me up and every time I go back these boys make it feel like home and I leave feeling like a new man. I love going to a barbershop that doesn’t make me feel like I am not cool enough to be there, thanks for exceptional skill & service guys!

Came here for the first time with my 17 year old son and absolutely loved the entire bro-​tastic experience. I mean, this is the perfect place for dudes to get their hair cut without all the feminine energy of a hair salon. The barbers are skilled in their craft and they actually LISTEN to what you want and clarify before beginning their work (know the saying, measure twice/​cut once? Like that). Derrick cut my son’s hair and really took his time to get it done just right in the way a persnickety teenager with a newly acquired girlfriend wanted. My son left with his hair looking the best I’ve seen in a very long time.
Johnny cut my hair in a manner that exceeded my expectations (I came in showing a pic of what I wanted), trimmed my beard with fresh, sharp lines and provided great conversation. Couldn’t be more pleased with his skill set.
As for the shop, it’s man’s kind of place with quality, complimentary liquor such as Eagle Rare Bourbon and many local Pacific Northwest distilled spirits for you to sample. Foosball available to play if you don’t want to watch the game on the big screen T.V. on the well worn but comfy couches. Definitely worth the walk to the basement of the historic Reed Opera House in downtown Salem. So worth it.

Great place. Diego gave me the best haircut I’ve had in a long time.
Price is great. They have free beer and whiskey.

If your looking for a cut that’s significantly better than greatclips, supercuts, etc… this place is worth checking out. Really cool shop and the comp beverages are bad-​A.
FYI– Its located downstairs of the Reed Opera House.

Finally!!! A REAL barbershop in Salem. Whiskey to sip on, great customer service, and the most important part, great haircuts! I’ve had a lot of bad experiences with barbershops in Salem, from people doing whatever they felt like to my hair, to others being too busy with personal calls to finish my hair. This place is great and the barbers are too

This is what Salem needs! In Salem, there are very few and far between places to get a good haircut. Add in the fact that Derek does straight razor face shaves and you have the perfect place. Not only does he do hair cuts and face shaves, but his prices are very good. There is also a nice whiskey bar with quite the variety of beverages. The atmosphere of the shop is very laid back and unique with a pool table, playstation, wifi, and a couple other cool things. Derek does a great job of cutting and listening to exactly what is requested. This is a breath of fresh air for Salem.

Went in for a beard trim today and was immediately greeted by Derrick and was offered some great whiskey while I waited. It’s a great place! He had the NBA Finals on TV and made small talk with everyone waiting. I will definitely return and highly recommend his establishment to family and friends.

I am always on the lookout for a nice Razor shave. I have a heavy beard and it gets old shaving with your Gillette. I know there are a couple Men’s Shops in Portland, and I think Derrick has done a great job of creating a small version of the classic Barber Shop. Shaves, Haircuts, reasonable prices, good conversation, and a welcoming space with TV, Bourbon, Beer and a Pool Table. Overall a great experience. Highly Recommend if you are looking for a Man Cave experience.

My son and I stopped in on opening day. We playing some pool and chatted as we waiting. I got a great priced buzz cut and a glass of whiskey. Check it out!

I was in town today passing through on tour with some down time when I happened to be passing by Big Derricks new shop and I stopped to look in a little, noticing the minibar stocked with whiskey, the pool table and the big, bearded guy manning his station. I was considering asking if he did shaves when Big Derrick himself walked out, handed me a card, told me he had just opened a week ago and offered shaves for $ 17 which included a complimentary glass of whiskey of your choice. I was of course sold. Got a full barbershop experience, great conversation, great shave, left feeling refreshed and totally satisfied. If you are a dude living in the area, make Big Derrick’s a regular stop for haircuts as well as treating yourself to the occasional straight razor shave. Next time I pass through Salem, you can find me there for sure.
