I got a grilled turkey panini here the other day. It was kind of bland(no mustard or other seasoning), and the lettuce and tomato were grilled too, making it soggy. On top of that it cost $ 10.25, which would have been OK if it was tastier or larger. They only take cash. On the plus side, staff seemed reasonable friendly and the place has a kind of industrial/rustic charm.

Our first visit. Pastries were definitely two or three days old. Probably were good when fresh, but weren’t too good today. Don’t think we will go back.

I find the breads too dense. The cashier staff I would guess are the bakers as well… and maybe very tired at mid day. Don’t expect too many smiles from them. I like to shop local but wish the bread was better.

The sandwiches alone are reason enough to sneak away to one of Salem’s true gems for lunch. The bread is exceptional and the meal really does seem to be prepared with love. They always have a nice selection of treats in the glass case. Before it opened, I used to bike past the building thinking«that old brick space needs a quaint European-style locally owned high quality bread bakery». Then, voila, we had Cascade Bakery! Come first for the bread and sandwiches. Then you’ll keep coming back for the addictive charm and vibe of the place.

Small… very, very small. I like their bread, but not the fact that their day old bread isn’t labeled as such, nor marked down. They have older than one day bread by the front door that IS marked down, but I just walk past that. If you want the fresh stuff, you might have to ask for it if it’s early in the morning. It’s very good. The do NOT accept cards, so bring cash.

I do like their baguettes and I’m a fan of their rosemary cracker bread but their employees who work the counters are not friendly at all. Every time I visit this bakery I leave feeling unhappy due to their unfriendliness so now I don’t go anymore. Thank goodness for trader joes opening here in Salem, I can get decent bread for dinner without the attitude.

I have yet to visit the bakery, itself, but have experienced their artisan bread through one of their clients, Word of Mouth, in North Salem. I had a panini on sourdough. The bread itself carried that sandwich. Will definitely be searching these guys out downtown.
