Just got done with a great dinner at Chinn’s. Their deluxe combo was delicious and seriously two meals worth of food for $ 9. I took half of it home. The bowl of wanton soup my fiancée got was Massive with great portions of chicken, pork, wantons and awesomeness. Definitely recommending and definitely going back! So good.

This place doesn’t even deserve a star honestly. My friend and I decided to eat here because of their good reviews and we were so disappointed. The customer service was horrible and so was the food. My friend got really sick also. So I would never recommend this place to anyone!

Reviewed live as it happens! I’m arriving on Christmas Day. GF is out of town, so I’m on my own! Glad to find a place open. Sticky table. But they give you water when you first sit down. So these two cancel each other out. I got: Egg drop soup– watery, but tasted really good. I like it. Damn, I just found out my crackers are stale. But I can’t blame them. They’re prepackaged and unopened. BTW, friendly service. I noticed the other server is friendly with her customers as well. I’m sitting on the«bar» side. It’s darker, and they have gambling machines behind me.(Don’t gamble, people! It can get addicting.) I ordered the lunch special. $ 6.75 As it arrives, the whole plate looks delicious! The Chicken with Mixed Vegetables tastes fresh and homemade, although not a whole lot of flavor, besides the dark sauce. The Egg rolls look completely homemade. Never seen this type of exterior before. Looks gourmet. Yum, they taste really good too! I still have a lot of food left, but I’m stuffed. I’m simply going to have to give this place 5 stars. The value is just too strong not to. $ 6.75 for an entire delicious, fresh meal? It’s a no brainer.

I was pleasantly surprised with a delicious Szechwan Beef dinner with Hot & Sour soup at Chinn’s. The soup was tasty, perhaps a little salty, with good(but not fantastic) flavor. I eas more impressed with the dinner — nice, tender, flavorful beef and fresh vegetables in a generously portioned dish. I’ll definitely return to Chinn’s to explore more of their menu.

Decided to check this place out since I had the hankering for some Chinese. Ordered shrimp fried rice, dumplings, and paper wrapped chicken. Fried rice is top notch. Didn’t disappoint on the amount of shrimp either. Dumplings are a good size and are crispy and tender. The chicken was a bit bland but still delicious and juicy. Definitely will return.

The best Chinese food in Salem! Waitress amazing, owners amazing. Been going there for 14 years and food never changes. I’ve tried other Chinese restaurants only to be disappointed! Huge portions, love it.

This place is not good. Not even for your standard Chinese fair. Soup made with canned peas, sweet and sour sauce looks like crayola made it and the chicken was hard as a rock in mine and Raw in my companions chow mien

My husband loved his Singapore Rice Noodles. I enjoyed my Sweet & Sour Pork. We both thought the egg roll was quite gross. Mushy inside. Not the traditional wrapper; it almost seemed battered.

Large portions, good service. I had the sweet and sour chicken, chow mein and fried rice. It was pretty good but not the best I’ve ever had.

I have been going to Chinn’s for close to 20 years and have never found myself wanting afterwards. Tell me another place you can go for $ 7 and walk out with enough food for another meal(and I’m a big eater) and I will try it. I typically purchase egg fu yung and pork fried rice and get a couple egg rolls on the side. VERY generous portions. Great place for a date too, they leave you alone to talk and serving someone tea from a pot they give you really sets a great mood. Overall a great place I have always loved since I was a child.

I love this place! When we’re in the mood for Chinese, We drive all the way across town to eat there. It’s definatly not fancy but very comfortable. The food is always good and the price is so affordable. The portions are generous and we always have enough leftovers for 1 – 2 more meals. We have tried other Chinese restaurants on this side of town but nothing compares.

This place was a bit of a surprise. Afterall, Salem is known as the Gourmet Desert of Oregon… and decent Chinese food is generally not something easily found in the vastness of a desert… but, there are exceptions… and Chinn’s is one of them. As I understand it, about 12 years ago the Kwan family from Portland, bought Chinn out. Whether that was good or bad, I don’t know… but what I do know is that if you’re looking for very decent(not inspired, that’s for sure) American-style Chinese food that is freshly prepared with a lot of soul, look no further. A friend and I were looking for a 1:30 p.m. lunch place in south Salem… a daunting proposition if fast food isn’t on the map… and my friend suggested Chinn’s. What the… but, but… it looks dreadful… ok, let’s give it a try. Make no mistake this is old-style…not someplace you’d take a first date to! It’s fairly large… a combo of booths and tables… simple, but very CLEAN. The waitress was friendly and explained how the«specials» worked. For lunch: a variety of sandwiches(including a very decent cheeseburger or a Chinese BBQ pork on toast sandwich… the pork is cooked in-house everyday) with fries for $ 2.50…yes, with fries. The Chinese special for this particular day: Spicy beef with pork fried rice… price $ 4. A very large plate of this freshly prepared dish arrived steaming hot with loads and loads of tender steak… oh my! They have a very nice lunch trade(11am to 3pm)…seems to be a variety of folks… workers, retirees and just families… anyone searching for value is finding Chinn’s! I cannot fault the meal… everything was delish and the portion size was generous… and the price is excellent. Dinner starts at 5pm. The usual cast of Chinese dishes is present as are dinner-sized portions of the lunch-time specials. Prices go up to $ 7.50 for upsized specials(no sandwiches available) with the addition of five(5) large deep-fried prawns. For another $ 1.50 you can get a shrimp roll tossed in… and for an extra buck you can get an extra plate to spit the whole thing amongst two… wow! If you’re in the southern part of Commercial St… don’t be scared to stop in and have a very good Chinese meal at a very keen price. You won’t be disappointed.

Barely edible. My dad warned me that there is no good Chinese food in Salem, but did I listen? No. I got take-out from this place. Sweet-and-Sour Pork(yes, probably a totally American-Chinese dish, but that’s what my 101 year old grandma likes) — pork was of so-so quality, some pieces were grisly(but the dog liked them), was over-breaded, and not fried well. The sauce was not spread evenly over pieces, some had none, and there was nothing else in the dish. I also got the Garlic Broccoli — broccoli was over-cooked and dish had too much sauce of so-so flavor. Only the Pork-fried Rice was decent. Ick. Won’t some Salem-ite tell us where there is some good Chinese food in this town? Please?
