I love that this place has local art to buy and it is reasonably priced. We keep going back for more.

This store has been bought by new owners since it opened up. It’s not the same anymore. Originally you could see the seamstresses working in the back. The garments were more original. I believe they even did custom work. It used to be more of a mix of renaissance and goth. Currently the store seems to have taken a more Hot Topic direction. It’s more generic. Sometimes they do events in the backroom, which is cool. The new owners are nice people.

I really love this store and have spent *a lot* of money there, but despite my spending and frequent visits, the store owners still act like I’m in there to steal something. I’ve always opted to buy things in physical stores rather than buy online, which is one of the reasons I loved this store, but now I’d just rather go through the difficulties in purchasing clothes online than to support an independent store that doesn’t appreciate their regular customers.

Holy crap expensive!!! They have alot of great looking and cool clothes I’d love to buy, but not at these very high prices. It’s actually a creepy looking little store, like borderline satanic. If you like art and statues with goat heads, and stuff similar to that, this is the place to find it. I really like what they have for dresses and clothing, but WOW… way outrageously overpriced considering many similar stores in town offer them for less. I did however like the music that was playing in the store.

I love this store and make a point to stop by whenever I’m in Salem. They’re pricey, but the garments are well worth it– they’re extremely well-made and utilize quite luscious fabrics. Everything is well-organized, and the staff are friendly and helpful.

Despite my pale skin and penchant for poetry written by the long dead, I am not a goth. Nevertheless, I am addicted to The Fool’s Mansion. Do you have to be a goth to love the place? No, not really. You do need an appreciation of fine fabrics, impeccable tailoring and thoughtful design. TFM carries very high end velvet capes, top hats, brocade jackets, corsets and Stop Staring! dresses.(I am most definately a Stop Staring! girl). These items are made from the finest materials– no cheap, see-through velvet, crappy nylon or poly/wool blends, darlings. Some will gasp at the prices. Some people will gasp at Miley Cyrus, too, but I have no time for them either. The prices are reasonable given the very, very high quality of the garments. Frankly, if you knew the price of wedding grade velvet, you would be surprised at how inexpensive the ready made capes are! The proprietors really understand the fit and finish of their clothes and are willing to assist customers in getting it right. They are charming, helpfull and blissfully honest. The store carries some jewelry and some inexpensive shoes, but their clothing is the real stand-out. Don’t be afraid, non-goths. You may be seduced by the velvety dark side.

Amid all the cheap and cheesy shops in Salem, The Fool’s Mansion is a hidden gem, easily overlooked. At first glance, you could easily pass off The Fool’s Mansion as another Hot Topic, full of cheap polyester play clothes and ‘cry for help’ accessories. But upon closer inspection, you’ll find an amazing selection of high quality gothic and renaissance influenced clothing and accessories. This place is the real deal. Lots of handmade garments, gorgeous corsets, kick ass gentlemen’s coats, and an amazing line of handmade wool cloaks. I bought a cloak as a gift for a friend a couple years back, and even at a few hundred dollars, it was a great buy(it remains her favorite piece of clothing, even though I don’t remain her favorite friend). Most of what you’ll find here is expensive, but you’re definitely paying for quality. It’s definitely worth your time to stop in, take your time and take a close look around.

Great store! My best friend got her wedding dress here a few years ago. She wore a gold velevet renaissance dress that laced up the front. Lots of cool goth stuff too. I grabbed a purple fishnet shirt here a long time ago when I used to be goth myself.
