I have been using Doug Hampton’s for about 10 years. I have always had great service, whether it be a simple oil change or a bigger problem. My boyfriend recently had a problem that no mechanic seemed able to fix. But Hampton’s did, in & out in 2 days. I don’t know if his prices are low or high as I have never checked, but they always seem fair, and the work always gets done to my satisfaction. To me, that’s what matters.

I have taken two vehicles here on three occasions. The first two times I was building confidence in Doug Hampton. My impression was that he was competent and honest but not inexpensive. On the third occasion I needed an oil change and minor service, basically checking everything. I bought the car in and was told by a young man with hickeys on his neck that Doug was gone racing. But the mechanic was there and they could do the work. I asked for a quote and he could not provide that immediately and would have to call me later. He called hours later and I said OK. I then got a call telling me I needed spark plugs. I authorized that and said save the parts. They were not due to be changed for another 15,000 miles. When I returned to pick up the car I thought the plugs looked OK, but indicated a lean condition. I would have cleaned and re-gapped them and reinstalled. He could not really tell me what was wrong with them. They also diagnosed a small vacuum leak somewhere around the intake manifold. Vacuum leak, white glazed look to the plugs, lean condition, he could not put that together. Overall his knowledge of auto mechanics seemed low, although he was very nice. I went home and removed the cover over the spark plugs. There was a little oil that must have come from spillage from the oil filler that is right there. The point is that the mechanic did not wipe it up. It was not hurting anything, but I like it when a mechanic takes pride in the work, especially work that will not be seen. I would have wiped that up and blown out the dirt so it did not fall into the spark plug holes, Labor to replace four plugs right on top of the engine was $ 100. I could have done a better job in 20 minutes. The total bill was $ 259. They also fixed one other thing for $ 50. Overall the price was not bad if they really checked everything on the maintenance schedule. Those checks were not indicated on the invoice, Bottom line is that Doug went off racing and left these people in charge. My confidence in this shop is now diminished and I will probably try another. But you will probably get good service there, just ask for Doug.
