Waited forever for someone to take our order. Someone who didn’t even realize it was happy hour. Finally got our cosmos but they tasted like pure cranberry with no vodka. Tried a second one, not much better. Finished our appetizer before we ever got a napkin. Only one other table and folks at the bar being waited on by bartender. No excuse for such poor service!

In Salisbury Maryland over the weekend, and ended up checking out the Steak Salisbury Restaurant(formerly called the Lagoon Bar). In a word, meh. Ok, maybe not totally meh. The restaurant is nice, comfortable, fireplace, etc. Overall, the food was good but for the prices not that good. Nothing in particular stood out as spectacular. Plating was spot on. Service, that did stand out but in a bad way. Not bad in a bad way, but bad as in interrupted table conversation to ask questions, got orders mixed up, missed orders all together, etc. When we were there, it was not especially busy so it not as if the wait staff was rushed, running around, etc. All in ok, as I started with — meh.

This place now reminds me of the movie, Dead Man Walking. Replace man with business. Outsiders with no idea of the local demographics bought the place from the original owner. Under the original owner this place was meant to be upscale. The original owner, a builder by trade, like many restaurant owners had no clue what he was doing. He put people in place as managers that probably couldn’t hold a job at McDonalds. They chased the over-30 affluent crowd that patronized the place in spite of inconsistent food and poor service away by booking rock bands and DJ’s playing music that catered to the 19 to 24 crowd. Then the new owners stepped in. They changed the name of the restaurant and the furnishing, but little else. Same crappy service. Same piss-poor management. Guess what? Business didn’t improve. Go figure! Now down to their last out, they have gone urban hip-hop thinking this is the demographic that will keep them afloat. Silly, silly fools. They’re closed and they don’t even know it. With extensive experience in business and marketing, my girlfriend and I gave the patriarch of the family owning this place over an hour of our time when he first took the helm. I guess he thinks he’s still in Prince George’s County. Simply go to to their Facebook page and look at the entertainment lineup, especially the heartwarming show they had on Mother’s Day for that special Mother-Daughter bonding experience, and you’ll see what I’m talking about. Seems this crew should talk to Brew River and the previous owners of Chef Fred’s to learn what happens when you think there’s no where to turn but to the bottom. The sad part is this place was salvageable. It would have taken some effort to turn it around and bring back the affluent patrons it once enjoyed, but it could have been done. Unfortunately, they don’t have anyone on staff smart or experienced enough to do it. Maybe the next owners will know better.

This place has changed over and is now called Steak Salisbury. Two words: stay away. The service could not be worse if they intentionally tried to anger you. I will never step foot here again.

Having moved to Salisbury not too long ago, our expectations for eating out in the area is not high. That being said, we were pleasantly surprised. They have warmed outdoor seating with décor reminiscent of Key West bars, but we opted in tonight; it had a nice feel– dimly lit, but cozy. We had half a pound of steamed shrimp which was nicely seasoned. We passed on the cocktail sauce because it was just right :) I had a broiled soft shell crab sandwich and my hubby had the burger. Our server, Jake, was awesome. Very friendly and willing to run around to find out if wifi was had etc. Out of convenience(it being around the corner) we’ll be back again. :)

We ate here on our way back to NY, as we evacuated the Outer Banks thanks to Hurricane Irene. The couple I was getting a ride from had mentioned that they don’t do fast food on trips like this because it just makes you feel crappy, and I think they may have a point. I had the crabcake sandwich, and it was quite good. The pond out front with the fountain is a nice touch, and our food and drinks came out in an acceptable amount of time. The food was perhaps a tad bit pricey, but the drink specials made up for it, I’d say. I’d recommend stopping here instead of a Hardee’s or McDonald’s or whatever.

This was our second bad night at the Lagoon. 30 minutes to get food and salads were brought with the entrees, asked for more iced tea and 20 minutes later she came around and asked if we needed anything. reminded her we needed drinks(I have blackened tuna so I am kinda wanting a beverage around) another 20 minutes later the bev finally shows up. THEN she brings check and WAITS30MINUTES to come back to run the credit card. I will NEVER go there again :(

This place rocks. The have live music every weekend at the tiki bar outside. The best thing is they just installed heaters for the outside lagoon deck. Now this place can rock all year long.

Wow! I was pleasantly surprised after eating here. The food is fresh, local, and reasonably priced. Probably one of the highest quality burgers I’ve ever eaten at a restaurant. My dining companion’s salad contained fresh berries and butterflied shrimp off the grill. A great find. If I’m ever back in the area, I’ll definitely visit again.
