I come to Sylvan Street mostly for the atmosphere and due to its convenient location to my work and home. The food doesn’t really wow me but isn’t awful. The menu can be overwhelming and it’s a bit confusing. I usually stick with the Ruben sandwich. It’s just about always busy here so expect a wait during peak hours.

I’ve never asked for special treatment or anything free once in my life, but… tonight I was served a Tex-Mex salad at Sylvan Street Grille in which there was a good size cut up piece of the plastic from a soda bottle cap. As it was green and mixed in with the lettuce and wantons, I ate it and almost choked… literally I half swallowed it and pulled it out of my throat. I didn’t get angry or blame anyone just showed it to the waitress and explained what happened. She brought over the manager. Both were pleasant and replaced my salad with a different one. I was honestly shocked though that they did not even offer to take it off the bill. The food here is fine if you like American pub food, and they are reasonably priced… but it’s obvious they don’t give 2 sh*ts about their customers. Seriously.

Went for lunch with my daughter when they opened on a Sunday. Bar was not busy however it took 15 minutes to get our drinks. Ordered our lunch, it was delivered by a food runner. Lucky for us, everything was good and we didn’t need anything because the only other time we saw our waitress is when she asked ‘would you like the check’? Will be back because there food is good but perhaps we will sit at the bar and order there.

I belong to a group of moms who meet monthly, and have been going to Sylvan Street afterward for about 8 years now. As someone with Celiac Disease, my choice of eateries is limited, but Sylvan Street had a good offering, so it worked. Two months ago our group went there and ordered dinner and drinks. One of my friends and I ordered the same frozen ice cream(alcoholic) drink. Both drinks were prepared together in a blender, then poured into the two separate glasses and delivered to us. My friend’s straw clogged from the ice cream, so she drank directly from the glass. She was shocked to find something hard and sharp in it, and spat it out. It was a beer cap that had somehow gone through the blender! It was jagged and sharp! We called the manager over, who seemed to be absolutely clueless as to how to handle it. He simply offered to make her a new drink. A few minutes later, my friend discovered a small sharp of sharp metal from the beer can stuck between her teeth. We again called the manager over. This time he took down her information, in case she had swallowed some of the metal and became injured. He seemed completely unconcerned that I had ingested the same drink, and may also have swallowed metal shards. He did not ask for my information, but my friend insisted he take it anyway. At this point, the entire group had lost our appetites. We asked for our checks and decided to call it an early night. The manager did not offer deserts, did not comp the bill, he did not even offer to comp my drink! He did take my friend’s drink off her bill, but nothing else. I ended up insisting that I would not be paying for my drink! This was not a case of them making a drink ‘wrong’ or even of a hair in the soup or something! This was something that could have caused serious injury! After waiting a week, and not hearing anything from Sylvan Street(neither myself nor my friend) on this serious matter), I called and emailed the president and VP of the company. The VP was too busy to come to the phone, but he did return my call later. He ended up sending me a gift card(not a large one, but it was something), and promising to do the same for my friend. It is two months later, and she has not heard anything from them. We spent a good week worrying following this incident. This was a VERY big deal, and it was handled like it was nothing. Accidents happen, but how they are handled speak volumes about the integrity of the business. Needless to say, my group no longer has it’s monthly gathering at Sylvan Street.

A coupe of the guys I worked with stopped in for appetizers and beer. The bartenders could have been a little more attentive but the beer was cold and the food was hot and delicious. If your a local or a regular you will get all the attention you need from the bartenders but if you just swinging thru might take a second.

Went there with 5 girls and 2 of us had to send are baked haddock back because it was burnt and dry and they broght us 2 new ones and they were sour and fishy tasting so we had nothing and the manager did nothing for us. The next morning three of the girls had gotten sick and we are assuming it was the nachos we ordered for an app because we were the only ones who ate them and we didn’t have a dinner. This is the 3rd time I have been there in 2 years and everytime it gets worse, will never return

Waitstaff is always nice but sometimes a bit slow when coming back with free refills on drinks. Food is good but they need a bit more of a dinner selection, the menu is mostly app’s and bar food but that’s not a bad thing. Update: I have been back a few times since I wrote my original review and have to say that I am a nit disappointed. It seems like they use the same cheese«sauce» on everything that requires cheese. Everything from the nachos & potato skins, and even the mac& cheese all have the same, odd cheese sauce. Also we got a rubber band in our nachos and still had to pay for them.

July 9. Went to sylvan street tonight in Salisbury. Been here many times before so we know the menu pretty well. The service is always excellent and the apps always come out within 5 minutes or so. Tonight we had the buffalo fingers and zucchini stix Both good. Turkey club a standard sandwich anywhere nothing special. Cheeseburger was not the best my daughter has ever had but pretty good. Both dishes came with fries and onion rings that were ok. My steak tips were mostly chewy and nothing too spectacular. I definitely don’t recommend them as there are things in the large menus that are much better. You can’t go wrong with the nightly specials that rotate daily. The toll house cookie pie for desert is always awesome. Not our best dinner here but always will recommend it as one of the best non chain restaurants on the Seacoast area. Will come back !

My girlfriend and I went to the Sylvan Street Grill in Salisbury on a Saturday night around 6 pm. The wait was 10 minutes and we were seated before that time. The bread served with oil and parmesan cheese was good. The restaurant seemed clean. Not very noisy. The only issue was that the dining room was chilly. We must have been under a vent. We ordered fried bacon Mac and cheese and fried shrimp for appetizers. Both came to the table fast and were hot. The dipping sauces were very good. I had the Cuban paninni and the lady had the captains or fisherman’s catch for entrees. The Cuban was great. Good amount of melted cheese and a decent amount of meat. The platter was very hot. My girlfriend had to wait for it to cool off. Which didn’t take long due to the cold air bearing down on us. The platter had a lot of shrimp and clams. The waitress was great. Filled our glasses without us asking. Overall it was a very enjoyable meal. We will be going back sometime.

Clam chowder was on point! Lobster roll tasted fresh, not too much mayo. Quiche sells out and is one of their specialties so come early! Bathrooms were slightly… Unpleasant. The bathroom floor was incredibly wet and it wasn’t water. There were some drops of unpleasantly as well, But that’s not the restaurants fault so hopefully they take care of it! It was jam packed! Overall our server took great care of us-it’s a bar and grille-so not too bad’

Sylvan Street Grille of Salisbury is conveniently located minutes from Interstate 95 on Route 110(east bound). The Grille offers a huge private parking lot(newly renovated) and outdoor seating. During peak dinner hours, expect to wait at least 20 to 30 minutes. Long wait times doesn’t necessarily mean that this is the best choice for your dining experience either. The Grille offers a huge menu selection, a bit too much in my opinion, and probably why the restaurant gets backed up during peak times. People are likely to get confused with the menu selections and there is constant pressure from the wait staff to place your order quickly. It is probably best that you visit the Grille’s website beforehand to view the menu, and write down your selections. This way when you arrive, you can be very efficient by providing the waitstaff with you accurate order. Keep a copy for yourself so you know what was ordered in case they deliver the order incorrectly, which is likely. Many times have we placed an order from the confusing menu only to receive an incorrectly placed order. If the meal takes 20 minutes to prepare and you receive the wrong order or that it was cooked incorrectly, the staff should take it back. However, expect to wait the same 20 minutes or more for it to be done correctly. In some situations, rather than make a fresh plate, they will reheat the same food which is against the law. Order accuracy is not top priority here in my experience. Top priority is getting you to make your meal selections quickly and for the staff to get your out as quickly as possible for the next patron. Don’t expect to enjoy your visit if there is pressure to move you out the door. Expect to pay at least $ 20 to $ 25 per person per meal. Drinks and soda are very expensive. For the size glass they give for soda, expect to pay more for a 12-ounce glass of coke(for example) than you would when purchasing a 2-liter bottle from the supermarket. Most of the time, the soda from the tap is combined with water or some other liquid and tastes horrible. It’s probably best to order water and spend the money on the expensive meal, or apply towards the tip. The quality of food is often below average. Expect that the appetizers taste better than the meal. If you plan to visit the bathroom, expect to wash your hands in cold water. Since the establishment has been open in 1994, I have never felt hot running water from the faucets. It isn’t very sanitary to run cold water for the guests. The wait staff are generally pleasant. However, during peak times, it is not uncommon to find a handful of staff lingering at the front desk and not helping to move patrons along. The Grille doesn’t accept reservations. Therefore, if you arrive with a large group, expect to wait for seating at least 30 minutes. A large group could be 4 or more. The Grille does offer a Loyalty program, which awards you one point for every dollar purchased. The points add up, but take several visits and spending a lot of money to amount to any significant redemption value. The Bonus Dollars expire 12 months after they have been awarded. There should be no expiration. Sylvan Street Grille is not my first choice for many reasons — quality of food, speed of service, several past-time unpleasant experiences, no hot running water in the bathrooms, and no allowable reservations. The food and drinks are quite expensive. I only recommend the Grille as a last resort.

Great«go to» for dinner, drinks apps. Food is better than the common TGIFridays or Uno’s I always find myself getting the Buffalo Chicken Tenders or Sandwich, best I have found. Always changing menus, sandwiches and entrees are good, everyone I know has a favorite. Good beer selection, 20+ on tap any time, with lots of seasonal. Full Bar. Most of the bar staff is really great, they do get some lackadaisical greeters high school girls at the front, but dont let that deter you, you only have to deal with them for a minute. Best desert ever, Brickle Pie. Get multiple spoons…

This restaurant was recommended twice by our hotel so we tried it after a long day of sightseeing in Boston. The waitress was very unsure of the gluten free items on the menu. She apparently didn’t know the ins and outs of gf dining, even asked me if I wanted croutons on my salad, what??? My husband ordered the baked cod and couldn’t eat ¼ of it as it was so bad. We never got drink refills and had to ask for our check. The whole thing cost $ 40. What a waste of money. I’ll never think about going back there for any reason.

This is not the kind of place we usually dine at but this was a family function — a group of about 16. We came around 2:00 — with reservations — and they had a large row of tables ready for us. It was pretty full when we entered but by the time we finished it was fairly quiet. The menu is quite large, with typical American fare — burgers, ribs, sandwiches, paninis, a large seafood selection, salads, steaks, etc. and the usual appetizers. I ordered the fried clam plate. This proved to be a good choice: It was a very generous portion of whole fried clams, onion rings, french fries, and cole slaw for the very reasonable price of $ 19. I’ve paid more at no-frills seafood shacks and gotten much smaller portions. The clams were very good, as were the onion rings and fries. And not just 2 or 3 onion rings as is often served with a seafood platter at other places — this was easily a full serving for one! Personally, I didn’t need the fries — with onion rings who needs ‘em! So we took them home — another generous portion. The cole slaw was just ok. About the cole slaw: I had asked if a vegetable could be substituted but they said no — but I could substitute the vegetable for the fries. A silly restriction in my opinion — the cost should be about the same. Before the meal we were served fairly decent bread with an olive-oil/parmesan dipping sauce. Everybody loved it and we requested more a couple times — which they obliged, but not particularly quickly. It’s hard to judge the service given our large party size. There were up to 3 waiters attending our tables at various times and they did a decent job. Maybe a bit slow perhaps? But all orders were taken efficiently and delivered without confusion, and with no mistakes for anyone in our large party. Desserts — typical generic cakes and pies — we were all too full to try them. Drinks: Good beer selection, several wines by the glass, cocktails with whipped cream on them(WHY? — when did this abomination become fashionable?) Décor: tacky cluttered sports bar stuffed to the eves with silly knick-knacks. But they did have several very nice stained glass panels, and they were authentic(not vinyl overlay) and very well constructed. As a former stained glass hobbyist I appreciate that. And televisions EVERYWHERE — I must have passed 30 just passing from the front door to our tables. Most tuned to football and some to CNN. Even one over the urinals. I hate televisions in restaurants. I really should take off a star for this but I’m in a forgiving mood so I won’t. At least we couldn’t hear them(except for the one in the restroom). Bill arrived without gratuity added, which is very unusual for a large group such as ours. It took a while for us to figure it all out but I am sure they were tipped more than the 18% than what is customarily added, so in our case at least leaving it for us to figure was a good decision for them.

Went for dinner after driving several hours to MA. Was greeted by friendly hostess, but sat at the bar. Was a bit unsure of what I wanted to eat but decided to have the house Chardonnay which was actually very good at $ 5 per glass. On Mondays the have happy hour with ½ price a apps but I decided to get the BBQ ribs/chicken special for take out. Wasn’t the bet but wasn’t the worse. I think ribs could have cooked longer… No smokey taste… And definitely not falling off the bone. The patrons were friendly and I talked along time with a local runner and nice gentleman who was knowledgeable and well connected with baseball… And locals… There Re some many other restaurants in a 10 mile radius with much better food and atmosphere’s this as your last resort…

Honestly I’ve never been more disappointed in my life. I feel as if I was robbed. I just didn’t have the heart to tell anyone directly when I was there. The waiter was very kind and did a nice job. The food was horrible though. I can say it does feel like they actually hand make everything but the chicken parm was overcooked and the breading was bland and burnt. The pasta was clearly overcooked or as I’ve seen in other restaurants cooked beforehand and then reheated to save time; there were elbows in my ziti. The breadsticks were bland and just had an offensive taste. On a lighter note the Philly cheesesteak eggrolls were a inventive idea and the flavor though slightly in need of seasoning was good but they lost that dish by serving it with a side of ketchup… When there’s already ketchup on the table. Be inventive and create a new sauce to serve with it! Finally the price was insane for the quality. If it was 10 – 15 $ a person for the meal id be less upset but it was 25 – 30 a person for this dog food. My friend even got lobster mac and cheese and she said it tastes like frozen lobster with a kraft singles cheese sauce. And it was 18 $ and the portion was tiny. Overall I feel bad for the waiters that have to serve this. They must be pretty embarrassed having to recommend anything off that menu. Management needs to really revamp because based on the atmosphere it could be one hell of a restaurant. Especially with TVs in front of the urinals, that’s pretty bad ass. But for now it’s a big dive selling overpriced garbage. So if management reads these reviews please try your food, ask your customers what they think. Call Gordon Ramsey and let him yell at you for a week… You need it. I wish I could give less than one star because It doesn’t deserve it.

In town again on vacation, picked this place to have dinner with a couple siblings. Parking was nuts, saw many people parking and going to the movie theater next door. Guess it’s shared? ok. Had a 20 min wait, and it was raining, lobby was packed, so we grabbed the pager device and sat in the car, listening to the Bruins game. Once seated, tried to watch the Bruins game on the tv in front of me, but the feed never stayed working. Food? Had the Fried Pickles and Zucchini sticks. Don’t recommend the Fried Pickles(way too much breading), but do recommend the Zucchini sticks(very light breading?). Weird things going on there. Both were served steaming hot. I had the Steak Tips with veggies. They were done ok and the veggies were good. No shortage of TV’s to watch, so I did get to see the B’s game. Been a while since this place was 4 star or better. Maybe it will be better on my next visit?
