This one is hard to give a star rating to — it’s a bit of a dive, and the food isn’t spectacular, but there’s a lot to like. The service was friendly and helpful — they brought us a side of platanos fritos, even though that wasn’t a menu option, and checked in frequently(but not annoyingly so) to make sure we were happy. And those platanos were terrific. The rotisserie chicken was also delicious, and the portions are generous. I had the bistec lo sobre — steak with eggs, fries, platanos, and rice. The steak was pretty good, cooked to medium, good flavour, and quite tender. Eggs could have used another minute or two, fries were thick and actually tasted of potato. A good place for a simple Peruvian meal.

There are a few Peruvian places around town. This is not the fanciest place, and the service is a bit awkward sometimes, but the food more than makes up for any negatives I could come up with. We usually call ahead with an order for pollo a la brasa to pick up and take home. We have stayed to eat here also and sometimes the place is full and the Latin karaōke music is blaring and other times there are only a few tables seated. Everything we’ve had is about as authentic as I believe you could get, trying to cook Peruvian food without full access to some of the unique Peruvian pantry items that you just can’t find in Utah. We’ve never been disappointed with anything though, and for the price, this is one of my favorite places in Salt Lake for good, reasonably priced Peruvian food.

Machu Picchu is a prime example of mistaken identity on Unilocal.A large group of us planned a dinner meeting recently and we were not disappointed. The hospitality was warm and generous, the food was VERY good. We had braised meats, fresh ceviche, stuffed avocado halves, fried rice and regular rice in addition to a couple other dishes. It was a large amount of food and everything was satisfactory. Based on the reviews, I was impressed to say the least. I will be back to try more menu items and potentially give a more elaborate review.

Not a good choice to try Peruvian food. Service is poor, they swap the meals so whatever comes from the kitchen first gets served. In our case, both the entrées came first. The dishes are bland, and the look of the restaurant inside and out is not very inviting.

The tilapia was delicious! Also tried the pastries, enjoyed both, but lived the come shaped one with the caramel-like filling. Will be going back again soon!

Interesting sort of place… a bit dark, air conditioner cranking along in winter, layout more for parties than an actual restaurant, two stages for karaōke definitely more for parties than an actual restaurant, a wait staff that is mostly well-meaning but somewhat inept or maybe just overly casual, very loud Latino music on the overheads, no front of house at all… actually maybe more just a mess than interesting. To those who are surmising this food is prepared and probably re-heated in the restaurant, give yourself a star. Now, this is not with every dish, nor is it uncommon in the industry to do this practice, but what it means here is that alterations to the dishes is impossible and for me, who cannot tolerate the one ingredient that this place seems to have in nearly everything, it also means that repeat visits, if any, will be few and far between. If you need your food fresh, keep on truckin’. As to what I had, the salad and dressing weren’t bad, though there was far too much of the cheap iceberg lettuce I mostly loathe and precious little of anything else. The dessert cookie was rather interesting, but in no way was an effective substitute for the cannoli I was craving at the time. Not this place’s fault there, though, of course. What was their fault was the steak platter thing I ordered. The steak was properly thin but also incredibly overcooked, to the point of it being borderline leathery and somewhat difficult to chew and eat. The flavor of that and the aji were quite good, though, just execution was what I would term as more slovenly than anything. I couldn’t eat the rest of the dish, though, due to a preponderance of the villainous onions and with no way for the place to remove it, it was a very minimal lunch. I guess sometimes you wind up eating healthy, whether you want to or not… I don’t doubt the flavors are relatively authentic, though I hope the execution isn’t. It was fun, as always, seeing things I don’t typically run into. I don’t foresee a repeat here ever in my future, but you never know and if there is a next time, I hope it goes better. It is also, as noted, somewhat expensive to eat here.

I ordered take out from this place and they told me that it will take only 3 mins to prepare(I was a bit skeptical). My drive here was longer than 3 mins, probably 8 mins, and the food wasn’t ready. When I got there, the waitress was talking to me with her mouth filled with something. She didn’t know I ordered food and the way it look like she was finding the cook to prepare the food. The place was empty and there is no sign indicating that it was open. I thought I went to the wrong location for a while, until I actually saw people inside. The waitress didn’t speak a word of English, there was a lot of hand gestures and luckily my high school spanish was able to help a bit. As for the food, it didn’t really tasted fresh, I felt like they just microwave the food and packed it for me. I would have the rethink about visiting this place again.

Wanted to love it but couldn’t. Just don’t think the ingredients are very good. We tried the caldo de gallina, the pollo a la brasa, and the ceviche. They have a lot of things on the menu and I don’t think they cook from scratch. Probably wouldn’t make it a priority to go back again.

The food is tasty but the service is awful and some of the dishes are overpriced. I go to it because is convenient, but I always struggle with the service. I’d be willing to redo my review if they could improve on costumer service.

Very good food. the atmosphere is toodark, they need to turn some lights on. The service was quick and friendly. The prices are good, I got a filling lunch for a great price. Over all I would recommend this place.

I had the lomo saltado. I thought the presentation and food quality were great. I didn’t mind the prices. The other people with me liked their food too. All in all, it was a great experience. I will be back.

Way too expensive in comparison to other Peruvian restaurants, but it makes it more disappointing because of bland food.

This broke my heart. I’m such a fan of Peruvian — dive or gourmet — and was SOOO hoping this would be my ‘go-to’ dive. No such luck. It’s newly opened(re-opened) and smells like a chinese restaurant circa 1957. The menu is standard Peruvian fare, nothing fancy — except the prices! I had an appetizer, Arroz con Pollo, and a coke… for lunch… TWENTYDOLLARS!!! The food was ok, but the chicken was served on the bone(unusual in my experience) and dry. The Appetizer was delicious — papa rellena. The coke was coke. The service … inexplicably slow. There were two other tables in the restaurant and 3 waiters. I had to go up to the counter every time I wanted service. K Rico remains the go-to here in SLC — sad that they’ve moved so far south

Average service, average food quality. Stick to the pollo a la brasa.
