Cool, unassuming ambiance with lots of room to spread out for studying or lounging. Unique art hangs on the walls and the food is yummy while not breaking the bank. There are tons of fun events throughout the week to keep it interesting.

Definitely a hidden gem. Good coffee, plenty of seating, fast wifi, decent parking(better than other SLC coffee shops), good service and open late which is a major plus.

A convenient coffee shop for Avenues folks, with an unpretentious style and eccentric art on the walls. It feels like a living room away from home. I’ll start with suggestions for management: sometimes the music choice and volume is too loud for the apparent majority of patrons who are working or studying. The cheese on the egg & cheese croissant sandwich seems to be cheap American style that leaves that gross McD’s aftertaste. Other than that, I really like it here. I recommend the curry and the waffles – yum. A couple summers ago they had an absolutely delicious Thai tea cheesecake that I haven’t seen since. Where’d that go? I hope it comes back, I looked forward to it every time I came here!

One of my favorite coffee shops in SLC. Not because of the coffee but a really comfy place to hang out. The couches really need to be updated, I’m scared of most of them… But it reminds me of my favorite place back home, I’ve always liked the mix of hard and soft chairs.

Here in Salt Lake, we love our coffee, we love talking about coffee, we love trying new coffees, we enjoy coffee during our time with friends or study sessions… we have almost made full transition to die-hard coffee pots… coffee vessels. Coffee places are hip-hop-hopping all over the place, though one of the most comfy and conveniently located Café’s in our dear city, is the one on 1st ave and I street in the avenues, AKA Café on 1st. Very often I have found that no matter the time, when I come to Café on 1st, I’m able to find a spot to sit that’s close to an outlet(a necessity!). It’s never too extremely crowded here, except around finals time. There are couches everywhere, that quite often you’ll find lovebirds cuddling on, so maybe you want to stay a little further away from those seats… but the overall set up is optimal to fit as many people, but also maintain a level of comfort. I’m not going to tell you Café on 1st is cheap. It isn’t. I can leave the establishment about $ 15 dollars lighter after just ordering a bowl of curry and a steamed soy milk. WOW. Sandwich prices are a little ridiculous too… $ 8 for just the sandwich, with additional prices if you want that with soup or salad. This being said, the curry is excellent. The yellow one with tofu is my baby — the Masaman has shrimp paste in it, friends! The curry is extremely filling as well, coming with a side of rice and a salad. This dish has been consistently great throughout the years. It’s a nice addition to a study night. I haven’t had a coffee beverage here in years. I’m usually in later at night and want something warm but not something that’ll keep me awake throughout my sleep hours… a soy steamer is my usual way to go. You can’t easily mess one of those up, so I leave satisfied. I’ll do a coffee drink next time I’m in… I promise. They use to have a smoothie called the Vonnegut that my sister and I LOVED. Consisting of mango, macadamia nut, white chocolate and a few more ingredients… this smoothie was perfection, and 100% the best thing ever during the summer months. Bring it back — you have hungry-Vonnegut-reading-humans who are craving it! However, a slight downside for this café… I have found in the hotter months of the year, you are able to smell the bathrooms more than usual. Not an attractive smell, and makes you a little ill after enough time simmering in the smell… but this hands you a great opportunity to enjoy the outdoor seating area of the Café.

Now this isn’t a 5 star café because it’s fancy, but if you are looking for a laid back welcoming café with lots of space to lounge around and hang at for hours. THISISTHEPLACE. Great options on food and drink, sandwiches, smoothies, curry, coffee etc. I used to go here when in was in school and spend 4 – 5 hours at a time just chilling on one of the sofas. Extremely unique atmosphere with friendly staff. Wish I had studying to do so I could go spend my days here again.

I work on S. Temple and this is the closest coffee shop with outdoor sitting(smoking on a lunch break, mandatory for me). The furniture is all mismatched and the interior is the same. It looks like I’d expect a college freshman’s dorm room to look like. Just random furniture thrown around, everything very thrift store looking. They really need to get better tables and chairs outside, too. The coffee is good. Really good in fact. The food is okay but as with coffee shops you will feel slightly aggrieved at how much it costs. I’ve been buying a grilled cheese here every now and again and just realized the other day it’s advertised to come with soup which I’ve never gotten or been offered despite paying full price. It gets really crowded inside. Every table is taken up by one person and a laptop. It seems to serve as an office for people and if they found a way to cut down on people paying $ 2 for a coffee so they can use Internet for 5 hours straight, it’d make the place better because half the time you can’t find a place to sit without having to share a table with someone(and Utahns seem to hate when people sit at the same table with them). The highlight used to be the yellow curry but I think they’ve changed the recipe and/or cook because it doesn’t taste as good as I remember it.

One of my favorite café’s in the city. They are one of the only places I can find a good almond milk latte. I enjoy the art & everyone makes you feel right at home the Thai food is bomb, the bomb burrito is bomb & the staff

I’ve seen this café a few times and never got around to coming in until today, and oh my gosh I am so glad I did! Service was awesome, Bomb Burrito was«bomb» and the latte was perfect. I found my Sunday morning chill spot and it is super cozy and comforting.

Brought a few friends here from out of town and was extremely embarrassed ! All of our drinks(machiato and 3 lattes) came out burnt. One of the lattes didn’t come out right we ordered a soy latte with dark espresso and it can out light espresso with regular milk. When we asked for a correct latte they told us that they didn’t charge us for the original latte so that we should just take the one they had made us. We then asked if we could please pay and receive the llatte we desired both employees acted annoyed. Our waffle was the redeeming factor of this experience though it far exceeded our expectations ! I will be coming back for the waffle and grabbing my coffee somewhere else.

This is one of the most funky, unique, comfortable, and stimulating places that I’ve gotten coffee at here in Salt Lake City. It’s got outside tables all over the exterior and under their trees, but the inside is filled with couches and lounge chairs so it’s like a giant living room. It is definitely a place to come and chill with friends. They offer a pretty varied lunch menu but I was here for breakfast so I got a pourover, an aovocado and cream cheese toast, and a chocolate croissant which was delivered fresh by the artisan who made it while I was standing there figuring out what to order. He was a croissant angel. This is my new regular coffee place in Salt Lake.

Deep in the shade on a 95 degree June Monday at noon, I enjoyed my Bomb Burrito and bowl of tortilla soup. My companions shared the soup(I got three spoons from the self serve counter) and they enjoyed a melted vegi panini and a breakfast burrito. My burrito partner had the exact same reaction to her first bite — daaamn good! There is a seasoning we could not quite name, but it is ages since a first bite of anything has been so wonderfully unique. Café on 1st has been perfecting this recipe for 6 years. A steady and faithful following attest to this, both as customers and employees. A recent sale to a best friend provided a transition for the owner and smooth sailing for friends and customers. Getting back to the food, the 3rd companion enjoyed the vegi melt panini to the point that half is now in the car with us, awaiting certain consumption on the shore of Bear Lake. So, too, are three iced Thai coffees, too good to travel without. We could have lingered longer. The bookshelf of games and books for all ages was alluring and we could have started our own backgammon game, but Huck the Wonder Dog was done with his nap and he could feel the lake beckon. Dog friendly? You bet, and water dishes abound. Unfortunately, no dog pool and the bowls are too small for a retriever, so it’s off to the lake. Denver-ites, and you know who I’m talking to, this cool spot is half way to Anchor Bay! You can stock up on road food!

This is a good place to grab a coffee and sit for a while or study. They have free wifi and big couches to sit in. Lots of outlets to plug in your laptop or device. They offer food but I have not tried any of it yet. They do once in a while offer gluten free desserts. Check this place out!

Used to be a good coffee shop but a turnover in employees has seen service slide. Now a below average experience. Oh, and I got bit by a dog on my way in the door. Random owner stated to dog, «your a bad boy today».

Great place to hangout and grab some coffee and snacks. Whether you’re an Avenues dweller or not – convenience aside – it’s a great little place with a unique atmosphere. When I visited I ordered the house blend and a breakfast burrito(the«bomb burrito», as it is commonly referred to) which was amazing. Both the coffee and the hangover-worthy burrito were fan-freaking-tastic. Highly recommended if you want to switch things up a little. Great spot.

I’ve come here a few times to drink coffee and work. I’m not a huge fan of the furniture, but it is a good place to get some work done. It seems like most of the people there are college students doing homework. They also have a few nice places to sit outside.

This little café is located in a residential area of SLC. It can easily be missed if you’re not paying attention, it’s blending in the surroundings. We had breakfast there. We had the Bomb Bagel, it was good. The Mocha is pretty nice too, with a particular taste. I could not say where this taste came from but I liked it! You can sit outside under the sun, there are chairs for that. Since it’s a residential area it’s very quiet. I recommend!

Café on 1st is a great little hub for coffee and study time. It looks like all the furniture was picked up at a yard sale but non the less it’s cozy. Their house coffee is delicious, I like to grab a cup and a BOMB burrito:)

Perfect place to spend a lazy afternoon. I had the tan mocha and the massaman chicken curry. Thai food isn’t even their specialty but they blew the local thai places out of the water at half the cost! Perfect portion sizes and a good variety of food options on the menu but still simple and to the point. Ample seating and places to spread out if you have work to do or comfy corners to sit and read. Great relaxing vibe and they had a live guitarist that was the cherry on top for the ambience. Not too loud and overpowering but a nice and subtle addition to the café. I can’t believe I waited so long to come here. Even when the place is at max capacity it doesn’t feel crowded or packed. I will definitely be coming back!
