Amazing coffee house on main street. The lavender mint shakeratos are to die for! They always have happy and helpful baristas to help decide as well!

I have a love hate relationship with this place, but I just can’t stay away because of how convenient the location is from my frequent commute to office buildings nearby. I LOVE the coffee drinks, fabulous service, décor, seating, and free wifi. I have tried their espresso drinks, iced coffee, and specialty drinks. Warning* if you’re a weakling when it comes to caffeine like I am, the piccolo(small) size is enough to keep you kicking. I HATE the awful smell of cooking oil here in the mornings. It tends to disappear by the end of day, but whenever I come here for breakfast in the morning the smell is so overwhelming that it sticks to my clothes until I get a chance to wash them. The pancakes and the breakfast wraps are a bargain here. Not amazing tasting, but satisfying and filling.

I just spent $ 6 on the grossest grilled veggies I’ve ever had. Slimy, slightly heated onions, peppers, and tomatoes. Soggy and gross.

Coffee is amazing, I eat here regularly the breakfast wraps are amazing, I also like having the al-a-cart option as I often just get eggs and potatoes and both are always cooked right on, the food is always hot, the steak sandwich is super yummy and staff is always friendly.

I’ve been here a couple times a little before 10 and ordered a different drink each time. They weren’t ever busy maybe a few people each time. The first time my drink was simple enough I thought they could remember it. They forgot a shot of espresso the first time when I asked for two extra and this time I asked for their caramel drink and there was absolutely no caramel or whip cream like the drink asked for, it literally just had espresso and almond milk nothing else. Not sure if the barista was new but I wasn’t happy nor did I have time to wait for them to remake it. If I go back in I hope they get my drink right since so far they haven’t.

I have mixed feelings about this place and would ultimately give it 3 stars. The good: –I love their coffee. Illy coffee is fantastic! And their batistas are always super friendly. –Their breakfast wraps are great and the prefect size. –The rest of their breakfast options are good too. –Most of the staff is super friendly and get to know their customers and their names. The bad: –The smell. This place stinks. I work nearby and all of my coworkers and I agree that this place reeks of grease. It’s an overwhelming scent that lingers in your hair and clothing long after you’ve left. Sometimes you can even smell it out on the street in front of the café. Not even fast food places that deep fry everything have such a scent, it’s really odd and strong. –I’ve had my orders messed up on multiple occasions and their food is inconsistent. I love their breakfast wraps, and always order the same one(eggs, cheese, potatoes and sour cream) and the amount of potatoes and sour cream varies so widely almost every day that I wonder if they can retain their kitchen staff because I doubt it’s the same people making the same item in completely different ways. In addition to that I’ve had sausage and bacon placed into my wrap on multiple occasions which was not pleasing to bite into as I’m a vegetarian. Their quinoa bowls are also incredibly inconsistent. The menu descriptions of the two bowls stay the same but I’ve never had two quinoa bowls alike from Café 222… really disappointing because not all of their million quinoa bowl variations are satisfying. You should be able to order an item with confidence and know what you are getting. EDIT: I’m dropping my review to 2 stars because they are so inconsistent and cannot get simple orders right. Today for example I oder a breakfast wrap with eggs, cheese, sour cream and potaotes and get charged for that. I once again receive a warp without potatoes. They forget either the sour cream or potatoes about 15% of the time. That’s a pretty high failure rate for a simple breakfast wrap order.

Coffee was great, well made, hot just the way I like it. The breakfast wrap was good, just the perfect size, I added bacon and avocado to mine and it was just the perfect combination.

I still have a hard time even going into the place for coffee. They are now trying to be a coffee café but every time I go in there it just wreaks of fried food and I come out smelling terrible. I’d rather walk to Starbucks or the Coffee Garden.

good coffee. ridiculous wait. took 20 minutes to get one drink. half the staff working frantically, but cluelessly, and the other half just walking around ignoring tables needing to be bussed.

I think this place is great! Very classy, clean and ultimately Italian. From having spent 10 years in Italy I can say that I felt right at home and the coffee served here, Illy, is Italy’s favorite coffee.

An odd spot. The food was perfectly fine. I had the meat lovers omelet with herbed potatoes on the side. The omelet was very good; potatoes a little cold. This is a spot where downtown office workers stop in for a cup of coffee. I think the Euro-mod décor and the«not Starbucks» is the draw. The biggest issue I had was with the service. Patrons order their food at the counter and are given a numbered placard to display at their table so the server can find them. There was no napkin offered with my food, no salt and pepper anywhere that I could see, and my beverage never arrived. So if you want expensive Italian coffee for takeaway this is your place. Sit-down breakfast, maybe not.

Hate to write this, but in all honesty… ordered the quinoa breakfast bowl with fruit. The bowl came with some kind of orange grease smeared in a fingerprint on the inside lip of the bowl, plus was covered with orange grease on the outside. Napkin I was given also had orange grease on it. Waiter kindly brought me a fresh bowl, but as I waited for it, saw that the spoon had crusted food stuck to it. Exchanged the spoon, ate the breakfast with a bit of hesitation, and after three bites found a bit of onion and something green in the bowl– where there should have been only warm quinoa, cream, nuts and strawberries. ICK.

The cheddar chive breakfast scone is the best — homemade scone with great flavors and textures. However, always overpriced, my order is usually messed up in some way(missing potatoes or adding something I didn’t order), and the WAITISUNBEARABLE. Every time I can expect to wait at least 12 minutes for a sandwich. Also, please change the awful techno music.

Is my favorite place to go when I’m at at work. I’m so glad the Salt Flats place is gone, this place has so many options form breakfast, lunch to snacks and things you can find at a gas station. Is tasty food, healthy options, fair prices, THEYHAVEICECREAM and the best of all… Good customer service! I hope they keep it up.

I’m not a french toast fan but I love illy coffee, which is why I stopped here. However, café 222 may have just made a perfect french toast breakfast. Bread pudding with raspberries and a dulce de leche cream(they added syrup, thankfully, on the side, though it’s entirely unnecessary), and it tastes even better than it sounds. The«toast» was soft enough to eat with a fork but not a tad soggy, as bread pudding often can be. The cream and dulce de leche with raspberries just complimented the delicacy of the bread. Add a perfectly balanced illy latte and I can only say I was late to my appointment(well, that and the slow service. I can tell this is a problem point, which is too bad because I found the food and coffee so delicious. But the service is bad enough to keep it from 4 stars).

When will the owners figure it out? This place makes my blood boil just thinking about it. I was enthusiastic about this stylish little café replacing the ever inconsistent Salt Flats/Sonny Brian’s/whatever, but this place just as disappointing! I’ve already ordered most of their breakfast selection & lunch, and it’s all just overpriced mediocre food. The drinks aren’t even flavorful. When will they just turn it into a Chipotle. or Starbucks?! *wishful thinking* Advice to management: — Train your staff properly. I’ve had my order messed up on numerous occassions. — Have enough people working each shift. The wait is ridiculous, and the staff are running all over the place just barely getting things done. — Constrain your chefs. My salad was drowned in dressing and the chips were overseasoned! — AIROUTTHEPLACE! The worst part is. this place REEKSOFGREASE. You can’t walk in without the smell lingering on your clothes! Ugh, AVOIDATALLCOSTS.

First I have to say I’m teetering on this one. It’s a great little place for sandwiches and coffee. They also did a great job with the interior. Very modern and kind of European. The coffee is good and the sandwiches delicious. I’ve tried the French dip panini and it had great flavor along with the Au Jus sauce. I just wish I had a little more Au Jus. Next time I’ll know to ask. It comes with root chips which were quite a tasty treat. Went together perfectly. The house made gelato left more to be desired. I had the salted caramel. Just too sweet and a little congealed/coagulated. I love good gelato and I was not that impressed. Hopefully they work that out or I’ll try a different flavor. I did have their brunch on a different day. It was a little disappointed. I was going to get the eggs Benedict but wasn’t feeling the pork belly version so I just went with the pancakes, two eggs and bacon. I thought it was straight forward but the bacon was way over done and I had to ask them about it. I hate doing that but it was pretty bad. The second order was cooked better but really fatty. Oh well. The eggs were great but lacked salt. The pancakes had a perfect outer crust but inside were dense and doughy. Again, a bummer. Kind of plain overall. I’m going to be sticking to the sandwiches next time. So far so good on those. The people there were great. It’s also a place where you can hangout and work, or read a good book. Give it a shot. Hopefully it’s on a good day. I’ll keep my fingers crossed. It’s a fine line between 3 and 4 stars. And right now I’m optimistic.

I used to eat here a lot, since I work in the building, but recently I’ve noticed that the portion size and quality have declined. Now, I’m all for smaller portion sizes due to Americas growing belt size but I feel like what is going on at Café 222 is borderline unethical. As for the quality of the food, I find it a difficult sell when I am told there is bacon in my burrito yet I have to search to find the smaller scrap of bacon in my meal. Overall, it’s a cool space but as for the food remains unsatisfying.

Came here for lunch, and it felt like I was home in Cali. Ah. coffee, panini, music, and the relaxed atmosphere . So, I had a straight dark roast coffee, coupled with a Cuban hot sandwich — and it ended up coming with fresh potato chips, not your average potato chips from a bag mind you, but somehow a fresh ‘just made’ version. The Cuban wasn’t what I expected but it was still good. Spicy pickles, spicy mustard, and pork on wheat bread really brought it home with a smooth dark coffee. All in all, it was fairly priced and pretty good, so I’ll be expecting more from this place soon enough!

I love this new restaurant on main street in the heart of downtown! Great upbeat atmosphere, friendly staff and very reasonably priced café prices for the best coffee! They brew illy coffee, which I’m very excited to see in SLC!
