I had the carne asada taco and refried beans. Maybe because I am from Arizona, but I thought they were terrible. No excuse for bad beans at a Mexican restaurant. I won’t go back.

Pretty happy with this place. I’m only about 4 – 5 items into the menu as I’ve gotten kind of stuck on the crab/shrimp enchilada. Very tasty. Salsa and chips are pretty good. Might need the enchilada again… Carne Asada is pretty good as well.

Very authentic and very satisfying I’ve never left this place unhappy. There’s something on the menu for everyone. The staff is always very efficient and helpful.

As others have mentioned Cancun Café’s chips and salsa shame all others — be sure to ask for the hotter dark salsa. The enchiladas Suisse, beef tacos, cheese enchiladas and carne asada burritos are my favorites.

You can’t go wrong with this place. Cutting edge Mexican food! So flavorful and consistent every time. The help is always so friendly, thoughtful and attentive. Never too busy that you have to wait for a table. Their chips are always warm and their SALSA could slay a dragon! Even their take-out service is so quick and on point. Great selection of tea and smoothies too.

This place is fantastic! If you’re looking for authentic Mexican food, this is a great place! Had fish(halibut) taco and Tortilla soup. The taco is exactly how I remember the street tacos in San Felipe. The soup, just like Abuella used to make! Cancun Café hit it out of the park.

The best Mexican restaurant around! They are famous for their chile verde which is amazing. When you go, ask for their green hot salsa!!!

I love their chips and Salsa and enchiladas suizas. The service has never been anything to brag about and the salmon tacos are something we wouldn’t order again. But the chips and salsa are yumm!

Wow! This beats La Cocina any day! First time here and we got lots of food and the service was very good –Dan was very nice! I really loved the #4 Merida, very good flavor and it comes with all the stuff! I will come back for sure. Five stars for sure!

I’ve been eating at Cancun Café for 13 years now. Our server Dan is the best! He always remembers our orders and keeps their awesome chips coming. I’m a big fan of the«Trio»(#6) but their fish tacos are to die for. Cancun Café is a great spot for a family get together. Try their strawberry lemonade next time you’re there.

Cancun Café offers good to fair food at reasonable prices. Good for a quick lunch. I am giving 4 stars vs. 3 because they offer liquor in their establishment which is hard to come by in Cottonwood Heights area.

Cancun café… I mean it’s good, but nothing great. If Reccomend to eat here just to support a local restaurant and to maybe check it off the list. The service has always been on point and the food is decent. But other than their Dr Pepper,(I’d say their Dr Pepper is like McDonalds Coke, something amazing!) I couldn’t say there is any one thing I’ve ever craved or had to have. One of the times I ate here I attempted the 3lb burrito challenge. I made it about 90% and called it quits. I’ll spare you the details of the aftermath. But I’m sure it was comical and entertaining for my friends. Perhaps that experience left a bad taste in my mouth. But their food seems to all taste the same, regardless of what you’ve ordered. Beans, rice, shredded meat, all smothered in cheese. It’s in every menu item, but with a different name and price tag.

My wife and I felt like Mexican and live in Cottonwood Heights. Should have gone to Café Rio, Lonestar or La Cocina. Cancun Café is below average. Food is just barely edible, horrible ambiance and not very clean. Pass on by Cancun Café.

The virgin pina coladas were good but the food has a funny taste and like no flavor. Also when i went to check my bank account they had added an extra dollar to my bill even though i added a 20% tip on a table of two. Kind of weird and even though its just a dollar im annoyed. Wonder how much extra they make by doing that thinking people won’t notice. Shady… go somewhere else.

Try this. You have to try this. It’s different and fantastic. They have this only as a special so go in and try it. It’s a spinach and mushrooms enchilada. Don’t miss this I swear.

If you want mediocre Mexican food that tastes like they cook it from a box but charge way more then it actually is, well this is the place! The only thing that did taste homemade was their chips and salsa. The chips were warm but greasy and hard to bite in to. The salsa had a very basic taste. Stay away. Far far away.

I like Cancun Café. I have fond memories of coming here as a child with my extended family when I first moved to Salt Lake. I’m coming to conclusion that these little strip mall restaurants often times provide the best food in the city. However, I wouldn’t go as far to say it’s the best Mexican food I’ve ever had. I don’t even think it’s the best Mexican Food in the valley, but I love it for several reasons. 1– It’s never that crowded here, whatsoever. The vibe is really laid back. It’s not the type of restaurant where you walk in and feel overwhelmed. In fact, a lot of times the place isn’t that packed at all, and the past few times I’ve been here on the weekends I’ve been seated immediately. The restaurant is pretty cute with large maps of Mexico painted directly onto the walls. 2– The staff here could not be nicer. They are attentive but not intrusive and always are sure to start your meal off with complementary chips and salsa. The chips and salsa here are very good. They will be constantly refilled at your request. 3– The food is above average. But it’s nothing EXCEPTIONAL. In the 8 years I’ve been coming here, I don’t ever think I’ve had a meal that exceeded my expectations, but I have always enjoyed it for what it is. I eat a lot of chile verde, it’s by far my favorite Mexican dish. The chile verde here is good enough to the point where I’m not really tempted to try anything else. I think the rice and beans are better than any entrée I’ve ever had here. For some reason they’ve always been consistently delicious. If you’re looking for somewhere that is casual, filling and inexpensive Cancun is worth a try. If you keep your expectations reasonable, you won’t be disappointed.

Great chips. Great salsa. Everything else is like everywhere else only it’s different because of those chips. And that salsa. I got there at 9:37 on a Friday night. They were locked up but opened for my girls and me. Very accommodating and as nice as could be. I used to patronize the location on 3900 South for lunch. I remember the food there as better than here.

I don’t write bad reviews often, but when I do, it’s justified IMHO. Went in today for the daily lunch special, Fish Tacos. Written on the board, $ 6.45. We sit down, I ask for a horchata and the fish taco special. He says they are out of horchata, so I get water. I was sad, their horchata is really good. So we get the bill, it’s $ 10.49 for the tacos. I ask the cashier, he says I ordered the dinner special which is 2 salmon tacos. I reply that I asked for the Wednesday Fish Taco Special, that this is the only reason I came today. He gets the manager, who was also our server, and who blames me for not ordering properly. He has to charge me the dinner price since I ate both of my tacos. If I was paying $ 10 for these tacos, I’d rather have had salmon, and I’m not paying for the dinner special at 12pm, I want the damn lunch special. He argues and says he can’t change it, and I pay anyway and storm out of the door. He was rude and didn’t seem to care, and I’m sure they pull this little lunch/dinner special price stunt on more people. So if you order a lunch special, you may want to specify. It’s not the extra $ 8 that upset me as much as his attitude that it was my problem, not his. Jackass.
