I ordered a Transition Klunker in a color I’d been looking for — and couldn’t find — off a whim and internet order from these guys when I figured it was my last chance to find a new one in bass boat black. I placed the online order over a holiday weekend and crossed my fingers — had never heard of them before.
They called me up first thing the next business day to confirm it, it was the last one they had. They boxed it up and shipped it that day, and a week later I got it across the country on the east coast.
I’d worked at a bike shop for years, and they packed it way better than a factory boxed bike. I’ve seen bikes get shipped that may as well been transported in a dump truck. They taped heavy foam around everything, lots of paper stuffing — it arrived perfect, even despite a big gouge in the box from the shipping gorillas. I’ve never been to Salt Lake City but I wouldn’t hesitate to buy another bike from them via mail, and will definitely stop by if I’m ever in the neighborhood.

What a great bike shop! They were able to get my tire fixed in just a few hours! The staff was friendly and helpful. I wasn’t exactly sure what I needed, I was told what my different options were and able to choose what worked best for me! I will definitely be back for all of my biking needs! Thank you!

Great service, not too pushy when it actually comes to sales either. My girlfriend and I bought a new hybrid and mountain bike. The staff was very knowledgable and weeks later, I’m still so happy with my purchase.

Great customer service, very informative and quick to fix my flat tire on a used bike I purchased from a yard sale. I was almost embarrassed to walk in with how outdated the bike I had compared to the bikes at their shop, but no one gave me a dirty look. :) cheaper repair compared to what I was quoted from the bike shop down the street from these guys.

Had a great experience here this weekend. Low pressure, efficient service, and who doesn’t love a mechanic who takes you back into the shop while he looks at the bike? Gavin let me pick his brain about the components and condition of the bike I just purchased off craigslist, and when they were done tuning it up (for ~$ 40, a lower price than most bike shops in the area) today I got a text message to pick it up at my convenience.

There are a lot of quality bike shops in Salt Lake, but two things I think are critically important are customer service and the quality and consistency of the mechanics.
Hyland Cyclery’s head mechanic is quite possibly as good as it gets. His customer service is excellent, and the quality of work he produces is unmatched. He was able to take a 6 year old, beat up Trek Fuel and make it look and operate like it was just built up yesterday. He let me know upfront exactly what it would take in terms of $$$ and had it ready the day he said it would be available.
This all sounds simple, but time and time again I’ve found inconsistencies even with the higher end shops. That isn’t the case at Hyland, and I hope their shop owner recognizes the fact that he has one of the best mechanics, hands down.

I am just now getting back into biking. When I moved back to Salt Lake City within a couple weeks my original bike was stolen. So wanting to get back into cycling, i decided to buy a new bike.
I checked out a couple LBS and wasn’t impressed. And someone said «Check out Hyland they will set you straight.» They were right. And now there is no looking back. I have found my LBS.
I have found that their sales staff is nothing like the reviews from others. Steve and Carter have been more than helpful, and easy to work with. They have helped me find my perfect stance for my pedals, and the components for my bike
They have always been straight with me, and fair.
I would recommend them to anyone based on their level of service, and their knowledge of Bikes, and the quality of all my interactions with them.
Are they the cheapest? No. But you get what you pay for.

Been in the store several times now. Both the service and sales staff are passionate bike people and offer experienced feedback. Most recently extensive maintenance was done on my wife’s bike to my great satisfaction. The bike was even done a day early and under budget. I am confident in both the ability and integrity of the Hyland team and offer my highest recommendation

DO NOT SHOP HERE! Unless you like horrible customer service. They sold us a size two shoe in a size 3 box, a gift for our son, and they wouldn’t let us exchange them for the correct size. They claimed they were worn and dirty which is interesting since they wouldn’t fit on his foot. Treated me like I was a criminal trying to get an free shoe upgrade. There are plenty of other shops in the area, take your business there. I wish I could give them less than one star, what a horrible way to treat people who spent hundreds of dollars at your shop! Unreal!

No better shop in Utah. These guys all know their bikes and even better, they know how to treat people. The mechanics all know your bike and have dealt with me infinitely on changes, fits, upgrades and maintenance — they rock.

Buying a bike from Hyland Cyclery is fairly pretty straight forward and they do provide and good price for what you get. I have not dealt with the service department yet.
I bought a 2011 Remedy from them through talking with Steve online. He is very easy to talk with a negotiate with as well. It takes about a week for a bike to be ordered and setup for you. So purchase was great overall.
With me being a perfectionist I was little bummed with the service when I picked up my bike and how they put it together. The cables are not as clean as I would have liked, but livable. Since my purchase was big I thought I would get more help in making sure the bike was setup good for me before I left. I got a partial treatment with that one. The main tech helped me out quite a bit, but new people entering the store were more important than me for the salesman.
With a new bike purchase you get a years worth of free service which I will have to check out this coming year. You have to buy a SLC bike license with the bike at $ 2, but you do get to say where it is placed. Overall I say a 4 on purchase with a 2 on pick up making a 3. Will have to update as I deal with the store more.

This review is specifically regarding repair services.
I guess I wasn’t TOO surprised when I took my bike in for a simple repair that when I got the call with the «estimate» that the service tech was suggesting a number of replacement parts and additional services to keep my «complicated» mechanical bike in shape. Having worked in a bike shop when I was in high school I know a little about repairing bikes (even «complicated» ones) and I thought the suggested additions were a little past the gray area between helpful and predatory — into the «let’s make an extra buck off the unsuspecting customer» area. Because I don’t have a spoke wrench or a chain tool and extra chain links (though I doubt there was ANY problem with my chain!) I agreed to the repairs and a «tune-​up» just to avoid any argument and to get my bike back ASAP.
What I DO have a real problem with is that when I went in to pick-​up my bike one of the owners/​managers was reprimanding an employee in front of me at the cash register, speaking loudly across the room at him. It wasn’t a real helpful reprimand in my opinion. The Manager seemed to be belaboring some point ad-​nauseum and it was embarrasing for me, the employee and even without knowing it himself, the manager.
The advantage to Hyland Cyclery is that the situation was SO awkward that I didn’t feel like complaining or even questioning my bill — I just wanted the get the hell out of there. (And, I might ad, NEVER go back.)
