Running around looking for a lunch place and found the Ruby River. I had the half chicken and my son had the hambuger. A little expensive for lunch… updated…don’t get the chicken. I got food poisoning… sicker than a dog. Owner check your food prep areas and temperatures.

Hard to say exactly how I feel about this place. First, the atmosphere is kind of interesting I guess. The western theme isn’t really my thing, but you can tell they really try to nail it home and at least it’s fully developed and consistent throughout. The service was friendly in the millimeter-thick /phony way of huge chains. Tables had a way of being jammed in together so waiters and guests had to constantly brush past(perhaps my biggest pet peeve). There were three people in our party and the meals were outright bad, meh, and very good. The steak was reported as being the best, the hamburger serviceable and the iceberg wedge salad pretty nasty. On the whole, I’ll take my mom here when she comes into town again(she liked the steak) but I wouldn’t venture here otherwise.

I have eaten steak in restaurants from around the world and the Top Sirloin at this restaurant had to be the worst I have ever eaten. The mashed potatoes tasted like cardboard. The only thing good was the rootbeer and our server. Go there for the service and the drinks. If you value your taste buds, avoid the food

We had been here once before and enjoyed it so we went back a few nights ago and were so disappointed. We ordered our steaks medium rare and they came back very well done(Our waitress blamed it on the fact that they were getting busy). Anyway, we sent them back and they came back well done again. This time I just sucked it up and ate it because I was starving but I was disappointed and our waitress seemed to not be very concerned about it anyway. I think everyone else we were with enjoyed their food so I’m giving 3 stars… but I don’t think my husband and I will be back.

Had a bit of trouble. Promptly seated under a ceiling fan(we sat). Caught the waitress and said it was a bit cold for us — could we move?(we stood) She said yes, but she could ask that the fan be shut off. We said that sounds fine(we sat), then she said«Or you can move».(we stood). Then she stood there and waited. I asked if the fan could be shut off. She said«maybe».(we sat). I asked«would you check?». She said you should probably just move. My husband walks with a cane and popping him in and out of booths takes a bit of effort. We moved to another section and about 5 minutes later the fans were off. Next, specifically ordered a steak that did not indicate(on the menu) any pepper sauces or rubs — NOTHING in the description but ribeye. Ordered medium rare, received medium. Steak was heavily peppered(even black pepper causes my nose to run — so I avoid it — not a good visual at dinner having a tissue up your nose). Anyhow, server did not return to the table until I had finished my sides and had decided to deal with the steak. By that time it was too late to replace the steak, dinner was over. Server did offer to replace my steak, but as I said, it took him awhile to return to us. Along that same line, I think there is a «desert area» of this restaurant — table across from me had 3 offers of water, 2 tables down — 3 offers of water. My table, zip, zero, nada. I finally jumped into the path of the water server from 2 tables down and requested a refill, she was rather put out, but did pour me some water. Read about the weird calamari so avoided that, But another one on the weirdness scale is the yam. Ordered it as a side dish. I thought jacketed meant it was wrapped in foil, I guess it means battered and deep fried? Who is going to eat the skin of a yam? It’s not like a potato skin. Just weird. Not sure you’ll find me back here again any time soon.

Service was very good, appetizer & sides were very generous: however, ribeye steak & prime rib were not top restaurant quality. The jacketed bake potato cold when served but no offer to fix the situation. Definitely not a #1 restaurant!

This location has gone way downhill. Average steak good beer selection for UT but awful service. If your looking for a steak downtown slc go somewhere else!!!

I’m a little torn on how to rate this location. I’ve never been to Ruby River before, and decided to try this out. We ordered the calamari, two Caesar salads, fries, a jacketed baked potato, a new York steak, and a rib eye steak with a pepper rub(off menu). The calamari was… Interesting. It was probably the weirdest calamari I’ve ever had. It looks like they just dropped the whole squid in the deep fryer. No joke. Long tentacles still with the suckers attached, all connected at the head… The batter itself was fine, not the best I’ve had, but as soon as my husband saw the suckers he completely lost his appetite. The Caesar salad was definitely not my favorite. I didn’t like the dressing and couldn’t finish mine, and my husband thought it was small and plain. After our two side dishes I was pretty nervous that our entrees would be of the same quality. Luckily that was not the case! Both steaks and sides were just to our liking! The rib eye was juicy, tender, and flavorful, done just the way I like it. The New York was tougher but still flavorful the way my husband likes it. While the main course was mostly good, the service was not. We waited an hour for our food in the mostly empty restaurant on a Saturday night. We had to ask for our water to be refilled. It was rare for someone to check on us. I was not impressed.

This is my favorite steakhouse, 3000 miles away. Been there many times. Food is great! Service is great! Décor and atmosphere: great great great! You don’t feel any pressure to eat your meal and get out! Waiters and waitresses were always very friendly, attentive, welcoming. I love this place. Next time I’m traveling to Salt Lake City, I’m going back there, guaranteed.

Very nice steakhouse. Great food and wonderful service! I highly recommend. Making a reservation in advance will help with your wait time when you arrive.

I do not understand why this place doesn’t have perfect reviews. My husband and I moved into town 2 months ago and we have already been here 4 times! The food is fantastic and the price is really good for the amount of food and the quality of food served. Sign up online to get a free appetizer! See you soon Ruby River!

Husband and I had dinner here last night. We have eaten here before and it wasn’t a great experience but we thought we’d try again. The service was great but steak was terrible. My ‘medium well ‘ribeye cut like beef jerky. I’ll stick to Longhorn or another place in the future.

Stopped for dinner with a colleague while on a business trip and were very impressed! We had the prime rib and the artichoke dip as an appetizer. The cuts were delicious and tender. The loaded baked potato and the side of mushrooms were amazing! Their flavored lemonade was really good too! And for dessert we had the crème brûlée. Perfect!

More like 2.5 stars. My wife and I have tried Ruby River three times now over a period of about ten years. The place doesn’t change much. They have a formula and they stick to it. Over that same period, We did quite a lot of traveling, and tried several upscale steak houses in other cities and two here in Salt Lake. Against that background, I regret to say that Ruby River is not keeping up. My wife always gets the prime rib, and we are happy to report that their prime rib is first rate! But, I am steak guy. Have not had a good steak there yet. I have always felt a «Steak House» style steak should use aged, prime or choice, well marbled beef, cooked at high temperature. Ruby River falls short on at least two of these requirements. Even though they seem to think they have it dialed-in. From the menu: «All Ruby River Steaks are USDA grain-fed American cuts, aged 21 days and cut fresh daily. We Season all sides to perfection then sear at 1600° to lock in the juices and flavor! « A. Pretty much all beef in the US is «USDA». The grade is what’s important. The steak I had was clearly not prime, maybe choice(but maybe only select grade). B. If my steak was«aged 21 days» it was done in the bag and not dry aged which is the best method, and is the method used by most upscale steak houses. C.“Season to perfection» is a matter of taste. In my experience, the steak seasoning here can overwhelm the taste of the beef. Some must like it though, as they have been doing this for some time. D. I have been to many Steak Houses that cook at high temp. It is typical for a steak cooked in this way to have a bit of char. That is not the case with Ruby River steaks. Their outward appearance is not much different than what you would get at home, cooking on the backyard grill at 500 degrees. On this last visit, I ordered medium rare, yet the steak came out medium well, with no char and only light grill marks. I frankly don’t believe they cook at 1600 degrees. If they do, they are doing it wrong… with the meat too far from the flame. So for what it’s worth, IMO– If you are wanting prime rib, this is the place. Steaks… not so much.

Maybe it was because it’s New Year’s day but we had an awful expierence! My salad had frozen egg pieces on it. It seems like the kitchen didn’t care what they were sending out. Hubby’s steak was under cooked and my food wasn’t hot. If the server was good it would have made up for the food but the definitely wasn’t the case. We will never go back!

The only reason I’m giving this four stars is because I’m also a big fan of classier places like Flemings. With that said, the food here is excellent, it’s family friendly and they have great service. I had the New York Strip and my husband had the Filet. His filet was slightly undercooked and my New York Strip was practically jerky(asked for medium). They were super quick to redo my steak and when it came out it was delicious. Perfectly seasoned and juicy. They have these amazing potatoes that are actually fried on the outside. I had the sweet potato and could only eat about ¼ of it. The salads were generously portioned and they provide a bucket of peanuts when you sit down, which provided lots of fun for my 4 year old daughter. I’ll definitely be going again. I was super impressed with how great the service was and the quality of the meats. Although they didn’t cook it to perfection, that can happen with steak.

We tried this place recently and found it to be good. We both had the prime rib. Prime Rib was good for the price paid. It was good… not great. However, for the price I was very very happy. My wife got a glass of the Malbec wine(house) and I could tell before even taking a sip it was not very good. Very glad I didn’t buy a bottle. Service was absolutely excellent — wait staff very professional and attentive.

This Is one of the best steakhouses I have been to. The quality Is great. Just as good as flemmings or Ruth Chris your just not paying for the white table cloth type atmosphere. The servers are always on point and are very friendly. I will be back for sure. Thanks ruby river!

I have to say, it’s been a number of years since I ate here and hubby and I decided to come here last night before going to a planned event. We were both in the mood for a good steak and Ruby River did not disappoint. I had the 8 oz Pepper Bacon Sirloin, done medium with cesear salad and sauteed mushrooms. Hubby had the 7oz filet mignon with a garden salad and steamed vegetables. I really enjoyed the cesear salad. The dressing had just enough bite and tang and the lettuce was cool and crisp. But my steak… heaven! Cooked just perfectly medium and so juice, flavorful and mouthwatering good. It had a piece of bacon wrapped around it too and how can you go wrong with that? Hubby said his filet was perfect! I tried a bite and it was super tender melt in your mouth good. His veggies were broccoli, cauliflower and carrots and he said they were fresh and just right. Our server, Josh, made the experience that much better. Very attentive without being annoying, friendly, smiled and seemed like he really enjoyed his job. Gave his recommendations in a way that was not pushy nor did it seem like he was«upselling.» We both loved our dinner, loved the atmosphere and the staff. Will go back.
