Sandpiper Apartment Complex

DO NOT even consider renting from this complex! I paid $ 1700 a month for the crappiest apartment you can even imagine! Never late on my rent, not once & was still treated like crap! They are not even worthy of 1 star. Let’s start with the quality of the apartment. Fake plastic floors (made to look like hardwood) thin walls, broken appliances. Toilets broke every week, we got tired of calling maintenance so we started doing our own repairs on the cheap plumbing and cheap toilet seats that fall off. All the tenants complained about this. When you can finally get out of a lease they will send you a bill for thousands of dollars to repair their cheap plastic floors and non insulated walls. Keep in mind, when you move in, you are told not to worry about the floors or hanging pictures/​mounting tvs on the walls. They will lie & say whatever needed to sell you on the apartment. I feel bad for an elderly lady that is basically stuck living there because of her age & disabilities it is not easy for her to move. But the way they keep raising the rent and the way she gets treated by the staff is abuse! During my time there I lived next door to a meth addict with 6 dogs that were never cared after so I smelled dog feces that was never cleaned up and dealt with a racist drug addict who was verbally & physically abusive, the other side of apartment was like a fraternity house that threw parties every night until the sun came up. I never complained once about the living situation I had to deal with, instead I was receiving weekly phone calls with threats of towing my car for parking in the wrong spot when in fact it was the guests of the party house. The staff (especially manager Angie) Completely unprofessional. She will yell at you, curse at you, name call using profanity. (All of which has been caught on videotape) The maintenance men smoke weed on the property and than blame it on the tenants. When confronted about this in the management office, also caught on videotape is the maintenance man being yelled at for «lying» They are clearly prejudice and hold grudges against any kind of arrest. However, they accept applications, do background checks, approve tenants and than lie and accuse someone of being someone or to have committed crimes that are not true just because they associate skin color with criminals. They allow any kind of dogs so if you have children, outdoor kitties or friendly dogs beware that their are viscous pit bulls, Rottweilers, Great Danes, and I’m not even nit picking breeds, a lot of people own large, viscous dogs of all breeds. The community is full of disrespectful people who drive like maniacs in and out of the complex. Again, dangerous for children or pets. My cat was ran over in the parking lot. People do 30mph in an area that shouldn’t be driven over 10. Sandpiper cannot even register with the BBB due to the number of complaints against them. Take my advice and when apartment hunting. Do not even consider this place. I cannot even think of one good thing to say about them.
I’ve payed less rent at a beautiful condo in an upscale neighborhood in Campbell, California. They charge Beverly Hills priced rent to live in the GHETTO of Salt Lake City. Consider this complex more like the PROJECTS (low income housing has nicer locations and options) Lol. Save your $ and headaches!

Worst apartment complex. The leasing agent and I signed a contract. But as soon as I flew back home to CO they called and said they made a mistake and I needed to move in a month earlier. They said the apartment was ready now and I had to move in now. I couldn’t– my new job didn’t start yet and I couldn’t afford to pay another months rent than I had planned for. So I settled for another apartment I didn’t see since I was out of state. I had all the same issues as Unilocaler Willy D. I paid for an upgraded but it wasn’t high quality– they did a poor renovation job and the apartment was dirty when I moved in. Also, there was always construction going on so you couldn’t fully enjoy being at home. My neighbors also hated their apartment and we all moved out as soon as our lease was up.
For the money they are charging you, you can buy a house. They never disclosed that it was shared utilities. Gas bill was also shared so it was $ 180 a month during the winter. Save yourself the money, headache, and stress– live somewhere else.

In order to keep this organized, I will go down a list of pros and cons, and provide more specific information for each. I will start with the pros, since the list of cons is much bigger. My entire review can be summed up in two sentences. First, the attention to detail in their renovated apartments is very poor (please see «First encounter» below) Second, these apartments are rather expensive relative to other apartments in the area with even better ammeneties. Additionally, on their website they advertise that they have «four swimming pools,» and while this may be true, they didn’t tell you that one is out of commission indefinitely. That would be false advertising.
Pros:
–Staff: The staff here is very kind. They are very approachable, and do their best to help address any issues we have.
–Gated Pool: These were fun in the summer the few times I swam. They are closed in the winter.
–Gym: They have a small gym onsite. It is clean, has cable TV, and many machines to help you work a range of muscle groups. This is my favorite part about the whole facility. The tredmill’s are very basic, but do their primary purpose well.
Cons:
–The older/​newly renovated aparments are poorly insulated by the windows and doors and are very drafty. They let out a lot of AC. We covered most of our windows with blankets, and that has helped a lot.
–The walls are very thin by the windows, and you can hear your neighbors speaking in normal voices very clearly.
–Difficult to get a hold of the office by phone: When we were looking into this apartment complex, we litterally placed dozens of calls trying to get through to anyone. We rarely got through to a person, and didn’t receive return phone calls in a timely manner.
–Price: For $ 1007 in 2013, we should have been getting a bit more than we were. These apartments are a bit on the expensive side, even with a year lease.
Renovated Apartments: The «renovated» apartment we received was the worst quality renovation I have ever seen. We moved in from out of state, so we didn’t have the luxury of physically seeing our apartment before we first walked in, though we were assured that it was really beautiful, and that the renovated apartments were «really nice,» and worth the additional hundred bucks a month. My wife beat me to the apartment, and before I arrived she called me crying. There were soooooo many things wrong, it was truly unbelievable.
Here is what we documented from that FIRST encounter:
–A giant wad of hair and a diaper in one of the hall cupboards… literally, a wigs-​worth of hair.
–The new attractive granite countertops were sloppily mounted to very old/​ugly/​chipped/​thin press-​board counters.
–White paint splattered throughout halls, where they were painting in a rush.
–An oven door that couldn’t be opened, becuase it was blocked by one of the cupboard drawers.
–A gram scale (with what looked like weed still on it) in one of the bedroom lighting fixtures. I don’t blame them for that, but it tells me that they didn’t even dust in many obvious places. They would have found this if they had dusted properly.
–Caked on Dust on every high surface.
–Bathroom sink and shower didn’t work. The spigot in the bathroom was replaced 4 times using the same part, before I finally went to home depot to by my own spigot and replaced the unit myself.
–Five minute hot water is still a regular occurence.
–Our gas heater (and only source of heat) has stopped working 3 times.
–Back door couldn’t close all the way and constantly let air in.
–There was cereal along the edges of the bedrooms, where it was clear the rooms had not been vacuumed well.
–Water damage on ceiling
–Crack in side of front door, which allowed air to escape and was also big enough to see through to the outside.
–Broken car port. One of the wooden beams was clearly and severely cracked.
–Leaking under the sink
–Leaking hot water knob behind washer
–Patio door needed new roller
–Patio door lock was positioned incorrectly and had to be replaced.
–No hot water
–Drainstop wouldn’t go up.
This was just the list of SOME of the issues they could fix. This is truly unacceptable, but the maintenance staff was happy to help fix any issues we found. I really appreciated that, but we really should not have found any of these issues… really.

I could never recommend that anyone ever moves here after living here only four short months. Yes they are one level which is a selling point however, that’s where it ends. The apartments are run down, very old, very expensive for their condition and falling apart more and more each day. The service men have no idea what they are doing. They replaced our faucet but it leaked and ruined several expensive items. They put in a new toilet and it rocked on it’s base like a rocking horse. Luckily my husband could fix their mistakes, but that is not what we paid for. The three pools are dirty and closed more than they are open. The laundry room is so disgusting I would never use it. The sidewalks are cracked everywhere and are dangerous to walk on especially at night. The office staff is so lazy and so inept it’s shocking. Save your money, energy and time and go look anywhere else but here.
It’s sad they are so terrible they need to be razed because it is a great location within a great neighborhood with great people living here.
