My review is based on two types of services which I have here– one good and one well below standard. Let’s start with the good. I bought the livingsocial deal for the discounted Brazilian laser hair removal. I’ve been getting Brazilian waxes at other places for years during the summer, and I have to say, the laser is way better. After 3 sessions I notice a huge difference in how quickly(or rather, not quickly) my hair in that area grows in compared to before, as well as how patchy and thin it is already. I can’t wait to finish my sessions! The not so good experience is with the pedicure. If I’m going to pay the typical rate of pay at a decent nail salon for a pedi, I expect the same quality. Unfortunately, my paint started chipping in less than 48 hours. The pedicure itself was enjoyable, but I’m sad that my pretty nails didn’t stay pretty for long. My boyfriend got a pedi at the same time and he enjoyed it and had no complaints. I’ll definitely continue to do the laser, but will be skeptical to pay for other services here if I’m paying a close price to professionals, just to have a less than great experience from students. This is a skin institute, so maybe other skin-related services are better, but I wouldn’t pay for a mail service here again.

Awesome place to get my hair removal done! The staff always takes such great care of me! I was a little nervous at first to get any work done, but the staff made me feel very comfortable. I had a fitness photo shoot before I left town for Tampa, and this is where I came to get prepped for my photos.

They’re very inconsistent both on the quality of the students performing the procedures and their policies. I have bought 2 laser packages and they have changed policies between appointments. Since I wasn’t seeing results with the arm laser package due to my fair skin, I asked if I could switch to my underarm area, which they told me I could do if I wasn’t happy with the results. Other times they asked me to pay for laser tips? And if I didn’t bring the purchased tip to the appointment, I was charged again. When I tried the laser am treatment twice and didn’t see results and asked to change to a smaller area(underarm. which they have previously treated), they said no. I don’t. get it? It’s a much smaller area and much cheaper to treat and they already treated my underarm before! I asked to speak to a manager and they refused. I’ll never, ever go there again nor will I complete my arm package. . . iz

My eyebrows were burned and bled during the wax and my nail polish is already chipping just two days later. Not worth the discount or the Groupon.

Even better then my visit last month. I can already tell a big difference in my skin! I got the Enzyme Facial and my skin has never been clearer!

I couldn’t have asked for a better school to get my education from. As a student I was able to complete my enrollment with minimal stress. The instructors were fabulous & made me feel at home. I never had any problems getting extra assistance when needed with coursework. The people at this institute are a great reflection of the clients you come in contact with! I loved getting my education from here.

I have been to Skin Science several times and for the most part it has always been a good experience. You do take a chance when going to a student facility, but they do their best. They are learning after all.

as a student it has not been a good experience. They have a new ownership that makes the learning experience awful. Its a chop shop spa experience not a educational experience.

Not my best mani/pedi. Pretty sloppy job and the nail polish on my hands was so old and thick it just didn’t look good and I took it off right away. They definitely pamper you with the scrubs, lotions, massaging, and wax treatment but in the end I didn’t leave looking(or feeling) like I’d just had a professional mani/pedi.

Got a facial and pedicure today at the Provo location. Let me preface my review with: my expectations are high. I’ve had incredible facials at expensive spas and have loved every minute of it. This was not one of those experiences — I also didn’t pay as much, though. It’s one of those you-get-what-you-pay-for moments. The esthetician was very kind and polite, but no amount of kindness could make up for the poor products used by the school, or the lack of equipment(no steam used to open my pores, the product was cold and stung when it was applied, extractions weren’t performed, there wasn’t a pillow for my head, the robe I was given to dress in was clearly used and unwashed — it looked clean but smelled heavily of the product and not like it’d been freshly laundered). In a time when spa pedicures are the norm, the pedicure was below sub-par. No massage chair, the tub of water was not jetted and was placed right next to my body and high-up which was very uncomfortable. No lotion was applied to my feet. My cuticles were pushed back, but not trimmed. And to top it all off: there’s absolutely no way to dry your nails at the end! The only thing I liked was the OPI nail polish color, but with no way to dry it at the salon, I had to sit in my car with the heater on my feet, then drive home very carefully(forgoing the errands I needed to run) and put a fan on my feet at home. SERIOUSLY?! Let me be very clear: the girl that helped me was very kind, thorough, good, and helpful. This was NOT her fault. This is the school’s fault! If I’d paid more than $ 25 through a Living Social deal, I’d have asked for my money back(the package I got today normally costs $ 55).

I went into this place for a mani/pedi and was surprised at how gorgeous the spa is! I have been to other«institutes» where it definitely felt like an «institute», definitely not the case here. The receptionist was super friendly and my technician(Brett) was wonderful. I had a great experience, will definitely be referring to other people, and hope to be back again soon!

This place is a serious win! A friend and I had been talking about getting facials and when I went online to do some research, SkinScience Institute kept coming up. It is a school where students perform the treatments and procedures. Further reading revealed we could get our facials for $ 30 each added the fact that the location is only several blocks from my apartment pretty much sealed the deal for us– we figured even if it wasn’t great, we were only out thirty bucks. I had Molly for my facial– she was terrific! My friend was with Lauren and she was just as happy. Molly took me up to our little room and left me to change. I put on the wrap and got under the sheet and blanket– the set up was pretty close to what you’d see in a «real» spa. It was dimly lit with soft music playing in the background. Molly applied several cleansers, applying a warm towel to my face and décolleté in between. That’s when I fell asleep! I woke up to her applying a mask with a brush. While that was drying, she massaged lotion into my hands and forearms. She finished up with sunscreen and moisturizer. We talked a little bit throughout the treatment, but it wasn’t too much and there was no awkwardness. I was able to relax and enjoy my hour long facial. That was the best thirty dollars I’ve spent in a really long time! We were both very happy and will definitely come back– we are even hoping to get our boyfriends to try it! I was considering not writing a review because I’d hate for it to get so busy that I’ll never be able to get an appointment again. But what a little hidden gem!
