There breakfast special, Chile verde with egg is soooo good. I’ve had breakfast there many times, there patio is awesome and the feel overall is very calm and relaxing. I’ve never even had anything else there because it’s just so good that I don’t want anything else when I get there. Plus the drive up to it is beautiful and peaceful :-)

Everything that could possibly be wrong with the place, seemed to be wrong! The food came out on cold plates, the cook couldn’t handle a «special order» which was really just a variation on an existing dish. There was a fly buzzing around my food through my whole meal. And the chef came out of the kitchen so the waitress could point us out to him. It was as if they didn’t even know about warming plates, and when they did finally bring some food out on warm plates, they double plated them, and carried one at a time, as if to show us how ridiculous the idea was. The flies, it was explained were in the restaurant because they have patio service, and the door had to be left open for the wait staff to walk in and out(Health Department! Hello!) I ate my meal with one hand and waived my other hand like a windshield wiper to protect my food. Instead of making it «right» our complaints were met with defensive comebacks. It was an entirely unpleasant way to spend $ 30. It’s too bad that Ruth’s has a line going out the door, and this place, just around the corner, sits empty.

Went for a wine tasting and pairing, Could not have had a worse waiter. Service was dismal. The food was good but he took my fork after the first course and returned fifteen minutes later to give me another one. Never had water refilled. Waited forever to get check. Wine maker was not even civil to us, he totally disregarded us. We went on the promise of live music and entertainment, There was some but only if you were lucky enough to be on patio. If you were inside then too bad. Won’t go back. Andrew, the waiter, needs to be fired, or at least retrained. Very disappointing.

My mom said, «we’re probably gonna spend the while day here. Why haven’t they brought out the food yet?». The server keeps blaming a large order for a birthday party. I would hope that restaurants would know how to accommodate large parties. The hostess sat one party and completely dismissed us and told us to seat ourselves. I felt slightly discriminated against. Still have not received our appetizers a I am drafting this review. I have been offered coffee twice though.

A location with a long history and many personality changes over the years. Live music and the ability to quickly get away from SLC make it a fun destination. Just do not expect too much from the food. Mediocre, at best, the entrees we tried on a recent dinner visit were lifeless. Their«specialty» ravioli lacked flavor in the fillings and sauce. Their salmon was identified as wild… which is good… but was served with a gelatinous glop of a sauce that tasted«off». It had been a long time since I had been here. It will be a long time before I return… probably for the music.

I created a Unilocal profile just to review this place. I am possibly the most positive, optimistic diner I know, but this place has shown me what grossed-out, disappointing dining feels like. We came in for breakfast and were pretty ravenous, so most of us ate most of our food, but as our hunger died down it became increasingly difficult to press forward into those bland omelets and cardboard-flavored pancakes. The staff was nice enough but the atmosphere was a bit awkward. I’d like to see them turn this place around because it would be great to have a backup plan to Ruth’s 1.5 hour wait.

The bad reviews bum me out, because I truly enjoyed Sun and Moon! My crew and I were out for a leisurely Saturday motorcycle ride, and we love making Ruth’s our first stopt, but we were starving, drove by Ruth’s, saw the as-usual-(and well deserved because Ruth’s is awesome)-hour-plus-wait, but we needed food, stat. We went up a few miles to Sun and Moon Café and had a charming experience! We sat on the patio, where we had exceptional service, and all four of us loved our breakfast! I went simple, had the eggs any style plate with country ham… so good! My friend got an omelette of some sort, and our waitress suggested adding a side of their home-made salsa with said omelette… the salsa(and I am not a giant fan of such things) was AMAZEBALLS! I almost asked if I could buy some to take home with me! OH, and they have beer and wine(no liquor), but that means MIMOSAS! So happy I found this little gem, and I am sure I will be frequenting it often!

Loved the location. We ate on the patio and it was perfect. The wine was great. My husband ordered the lasagna and it wasnt anything special. I ordered the steak and it came with mushrooms from a can on top. No good. Prices were a little steep for the quality of food. I like trying new places so it was an enjoyable time but we won’t be back.

My dinner here this past weekend was the catalyst to creating my Unilocal profile. I have to be honest, the music was great, and the Sun and Moon gets some of the best in blues on a pretty regular basis, but the food on the other hand was probably the worst I have had anywhere in Utah. We had the Mushroom Ravioli and Chicken Spinach Cannelloni, both tasted like someone tried to get creative with Costco food and a microwave. At $ 50 one could go to more than 3 dozen restaurants within a 10 minute radius getting not only more food, but INSANELY better food. Beware, if you choose to visit The Sund and Moon Café dont venture beyond the nachos, go for the music, DONOTGOFORTHEFOOD.

Funny that they close at 3 on Sunday but stop serving breakfast at 2. I called ahead to make sure we could still get breakfast, arrive at 1:45 and the server said no. I asked him to ask the chef, who said yes. I hope the server gave his tip to the chef for me. Great portion, good food, nice quiet place when empty. Would be fun to see a little jazz band here one night.

I did a wine an food pairing. The wine was very interesting, the food perfectly matched. The only down side was their special wine-food pairing evening was the same evening as a musical event. Long story short they didn’t have a table for us even though we had a reservation because they gave the inside tables to those that paid for show tickets. The band sounded great but we would sent out onto the patio for the evening. Luckily my date was so engaging she easily made up for the gaffe by the restaurant. Go to a food and wine pairing. Go to a blues show. Stay away when they make the mistake of scheduling them both on top of each other!

I just can’t put my finger on the charm of this place. But let’s give it a try. I’m quite sure that some of it has to do with the patio out back. My first trip to Sun & Moon was at the very beginning of summer as the patio had just opened up for the season. It was a nice night, and because that patio is totally hidden from the street I was really surprised to see it there. Sort of like your own secret garden or hidden little pocket of zen. I ordered a simple pasta dish, and a simple pasta dish is indeed what I got. Simple in the best possible way. And that’s another part of the charm. The folks here know what they’re good at. They know what they love. They love good food. Blues music. Wine. Go with what you love and what you do best and what makes you happy. My meal was really quite good, and I definitely ate until I was full, and then some. Reasonably priced, and with a priceless time out on the patio I can call it a steal. The Sun and Moon Café is not the fanciest operation. Again, it goes back to being simple. The building and deck are tidy. I don’t know the exact history of the restaurant, but I do know it’s been around under different names and ownership for some time. Good to see it still going strong. I’d suggest you get on their email list to hear about bands coming into town. They’re constantly bringing in national blues acts for intimate dining and tunes nights and you can hear about them first via email. I believe they also do(or at least have done) wine pairings as well. Before I went I wasn’t aware they also do catering. They can put together a custom package for you and have plenty of options on price and cuisine. Inevitably, being located up Emigration Canyon(it’s a few miles, so don’t give up hope if you don’t see it right away) you’re going to hear comparisons to Ruth’s. You know what? Those comparisons are ridiculous. Neither one is trying to be the other. Love Sun and Moon for what it is. That’s part of the charm. They’re not just content, they’re happy as can be to be who they are, and to do things their own way. And that’s all part of the charm.

Have drove by it a few times so decided to try it out Sunday before our motorcycle ride. Cute little place, patio was full so we sat inside. I had the crab cake benedict, husband had regular eggs benedict. Both came wiht potatoes and my husband likes his near burned(aka crispy) and they were accomodating. The crab cakes were more like a crab mash. I prefer Lump Crab Cakes but the flavor was good. Staff was friendly but slow. Took us a while to get seated and also had to ask a few times for water refills. We also had to wait for the check after we ate. Prices are OK, but $ 6.50 for a mimosa in a wine glass was expensive. We’ll probably go back just to check out the wine tastings they do monthly and also for patio dining

Ugh. I am really reluctant to write this review but I feel a responsibility to share my honest opinion and warn fellow Unilocalers. The two stars are for the absolutely GREAT time I had at the Unilocal Elite event that was held here! The waitstaff were extremely nice and accommodating, the food was plentiful and delicious, and the music/atmosphere proved to be very entertaining. It was truly a perfect evening. Unfortunately for us, we were convinced to come back two days later to hear the same band play again. The tickets were $ 20 each! At the time, I just assumed the price would be worth it in the end. Wrong. So wrong. We all arrived with high expectations, only to be sat behind a wall, blocking us from view of the band! We tried to make the best of it, but it just wasn’t the same. It took us a long time to receive our food, my bass was way too buttery, and the beers put us back $ 10 each! I was more than disappointed. Why were these tickets so expensive? I ended up spending $ 60 on a night that was no more fun than going to Chili’s. I will say that the servers were still extremely nice and tried to make amends when I brought up my disappointment… but that consisted of giving us $ 5 back each… and somehow miscounting the people in our party so that we only received $ 15 back instead of $ 25. I’m bummed. I really wanted to like them. I won’t go back and I recommend that you don’t either.

Better than the two hour wait at Ruth’s and honestly, better food and service. I smile driving by the throngs of people waiting outside Ruths knowing I will be sitting down eating while they still hold their pagers.

I grew up in Emigration Canyon but that was a lonnnng time ago so I had never heard of this place until I ran by it but apparently this little gem has been open for eight years! What? Nobody bothered to tell me! That’ s just rude. Okay, okay I’m over it because now I’ve been and it was very good! After our 10-mile run from East Canyon down Emigration we were beyond hungry so we decided to drive back up to The Sun and Moon Café, it’s a quaint little place with a very friendly staff. Nothing fancy but clean and inviting. They are opening their patio in a couple of weeks vs. the typical«we don’t open until Mother’s Day» and I’m so excited to go there, sit out on the patio and listen to the live music! As well as going to the wine/beer tastings they offer each month. It’s nothing fancy but the food is very good. I had a breakfast burrito and some yummy breakfast potatoes with coffee. The only thing I wish they had was a better selection of sweetners for my coffee. Their dinner menu looks exciting, one side has a «bar menu» with the usual nacho’s, wings, etc. and the other side is an eclectic array of their specialty foods. I will totally go again… a must try in my book!

So I’m rolling up the canyon in a 1980’s era school bus at 7 o’clock this morning, on my way to the«10-miler» starting line. I’m looking out the window, watching all the terrain rolling past and thinking, «Holy Crap! I’m going to have to RUN past all of this!» But I digress. I’m looking out the window and I see The Sun and Moon Café. The place looks cool, so I Unilocal it. 5 Reviews. 4 stars. Promising. We should eat there sometime. After the 10 mile run, we were STARVING, so I said, «Hey Hunny! Let’s try that place up the canyon!» What a great decision! The setting is nice and homey. Several booths and lots of tables. There’s a big screen TV so you don’t miss the big game and there are lots of pictures of blues musicians on the wall. The owner saw me inspecing the autographed pictures, so he came over and explained that they have live blues music at least once a month. Sweet! I got on their e-mail list, so they’ll let me know whenever they have live music. They also have monthly(or more often) beer tastings and wine tastings, with small plates to pair with each libation. I can’t wait! There is also a patio with live music in the Summertime… again… I can’t wait! Since it was morning, we had breakfast. I had the andouille sausage scramble with breakfast potatoes(btw, almost everything comes with breakfast potatoes). The sausage was great. Perfectly seasoned and perfectly cooked. The eggs were just right and the potatoes were super yummy with a slight crisp on the outside and a fluffy, puffy, steamy hot inside. Lisa got the breakfast burrito and she really enjoyed it. It had scrambled eggs, black beans and some other stuff in it and some really good house-made salsa on the side. We asked to see a dinner menu(for future reference) and it looked really good, with some unexpcted and adventurous items. I really like the«other» place in Emigration Canyon, but The Sun and Moon Café is my new favorite, hands down, and I’m on a mission to get the word out! Wait… if no one finds out about this place and how good it is… it can be MINE… all MINE! Never mind. Disregard this review. Pretend you never heard of me… or this Café.

Have you ever had a pulled-pork sandwich at Sugarhouse BBQ? Well, they are GOOD. The BBQ pulled-pork sandwich at Sun and Moon is better. Wish I could have tried something else cause it was THATGOOD. Very enjoyable and short, beautiful drive up canyon. If you haven’t gone, go!!! Can’t wait to go on a weekend with Fam.

I write this review with some sadness. I really want to love this place — great location, good food, patio, live music, beer. But we’ve been been there several times and have experienced repeated problems with the wait staff. The owner needs to take a serious look at the staff. Here’s the latest incident. We asked our waitress to split our bill. At the end of the meal, someone we never saw before brings us the bill, with the items split randomly.(Another server told us later that he was our server’s boyfriend.) When we tried to reconcile this, we spent almost 15 minutes talking to four other people — no one could understand the simple problem we were describing. One staff person told us no, sorry, they couldn’t adjust the credit card payment because he didn’t know how. Finally, the young man who caused the problem came to our table and interpreted what we were saying as us not wanting to pay for all of our meal. He became belligerent and at one point told our friends in a very snotty manner«Well, why do you keep coming back?» When we asked to speak to the manager, he told us that he was the manager(um, excuse me, I was told you were our server’s boyfriend). We finally just left. On top of all this, two of us paid cash, the server didn’t bring us back any change at all, and when I asked for it, someone else brought us back the incorrect change — shorted us! As bad as the incident was, it is only unusual in its severity. Every time we dine at Sun and Moon on the weekends, we receive indifferent service at best — unfilled water glasses that you have to ask repeatedly for refills, no one coming over after food is served to check if things are OK, sitting for a long time after finishing our food waiting for any attention. Like I said, I really want to love this place. And I do, except for the bad service and attitude. I really hope they can resolve these problems. For now, it will be quite a while before I go back.
