I have been to this place a few times, with today being my last. They use too much rice and limit your order to two items/person/“round.” Quality was fair but service was SLOW. They had one person making sushi and one taking his sweet time delivering drinks and sushi as it came crawling out. It took nearly 20 min for my first rolls to be placed in front of me. There are plenty of other places to go that offer higher quality and faster service for a comparable price. Do yourself a favor and go to the other places, and not to Sushi Yah.

Too much rice(not cooked right) fish portions are small. Service is horrible and they even tried to tell us that we couldn’t have anymore because«we had much already and don’t think you can finish». The staff and chefs from this place should go have sushi at a real sushi bar.

Terrible service. They weren’t busy and we sat there with 2 other tables for about 20 plus min. No one came over to take our order or even to get a drink order. We got up and left as the two workers there just where standing looking at everyone. Did even ask us if we where ok. Just gave us a dirty look. Bad customer service! ZEROSTARS!!!

Was not impressed with the quality of the sushi. I have been to other Sushi Yah’s and they were much better. I ordered a roll and then my friend ordered the same roll later and it was totally different. Tempura in the rolls was old and not very good. Don’t waste your $$$ here.

It is a good place for all you can eat sushi at a great value. The rolls are a good size, with good flavor but lack actual sushi.

I used to go here all of the time, the last five or so times have been an incredible disappointment. Sushi is either too cold or it feels like its been sitting outsode for a few days. The rolls are the smallest thing i have ever seen(cheap buffet sushi is much larger than theirs), the building feels like it hasnt been cleaned at all, and the rolls take way, way to damn long to get to a table. Once again, im sorry, bit i have to find something better to spend my money on.

Terrible. The only reason I am taking the time to write a review is because I hope that someone out there saves themselves from the horrible culinary experience. In General: 1) It is NOT all you can eat. Apparently you can only order FOURTIMES, and you are limited to two rolls per order. Although, it was certainly all I WANTED to eat… it was that bad. 2) The itamaes(sushi chefs) are slow, incompetent, and rude. 3) It took them 67 minutes to bring me an order of 3 nigiri. And lest you think that it was crazy busy or something, we were two of twenty people in the restaurant. In Specific: 1) The tuna nigiri was the only nigiri that was fresh. And we went there on a Friday night. 2) Do you know what they do with the not so fresh tuna? They serve it as the seared tuna nigiri. Seriously, don’t bother trying it. 3) The restaurants stinks of stale frying oil. 4) The bathrooms were pretty bad. The stalls didn’t close/lock, and looked as if they hadn’t been cleaned in 3 days. Mildew on the corners of the tiled walls. 5) The fake wasabi was the worst I have had in 50+ sushi joints inside and outside of the United States. It was terribly lackluster and barely flavored. I could go on and on, but honestly if you still want to go to this place after the above, then you deserve what you get :) I’ll certainly never go again.

I like this place a lot. The owner is nice and loves to talk to his customers while he prepares their dinner, he’s an avid baseball fan and there’s usually a game on when you go in. Let me just say this, usually when you combine the words«all you can eat» and«sushi» it ends in disaster, generally speaking not a good combination. This place in every way breaks that stereotype. It’s nice and clean, the staff are very friendly. The fish is always fresh and flavorful. The main chef and proprietor of the business is always willing to tell you what he suggests and has made me custom rolls off the top of his head just because he wanted to. The fish is always fresh and they include appetizers as part of the all you can eat menu at no additional charge. I usually start with an order of seaweed salad and green mussles and progress to sushi from there. One of the things I really like about this place is the fact that they serve a lot of stuff you wouldn’t see in a cheap sushi joint. You get escolar(now one of my favorites) hokkigai, uni, ikura, hotate etc… And all of this is still included with the all you can eat menu. Always quiet, this place is a great for friendly get togethers, nice low key business lunch, family dinner etc… Eat here, you won’t regret it.

Sushi Yah… let’s be honest, it’s a little more«Sushi Nah,» but this place is about managing your expectations. They serve all-you-can-eat sushi for $ 15.00(lunch price), and taking that into consideration, you really can’t expect too much. I tried three of their nigiri offerings. The yellowtail and the mackerel were not very good. They tasted a bit off and had kind of a chewy texture. The tuna was definitely better. Sashimi can vary from fish to fish, but if I return, I’ll go with tuna first. As for the maki sushi, the rolls featuring salmon and tuna were okay. We tried a «crunch roll»(the whole roll was battered in tempura and deep fried) and that got a thumbs down from us because hot, greasy sushi is just wrong. The seaweed salad and the edamame were good, so we got some veg in our meal. The restaurant is a little dingy and you can smell old frying grease in the air. The service was a little slow, but okay. One thing I noticed was that the food was not presented beautifully like sushi usually is. It was just the plain rolls, dropped on a plate. For me, part of the charm of sushi is how pretty it is, so I definitely missed the finesse. Still, it’s all-you-can-eat and it’s $ 15, so how picky can you be? Personally, if I’m in the mood for sushi, I want GOOD sushi, so I’ll probably keep driving next time. But if you favor quantity over quality or you’re looking to try lots of different rolls, you could do worse.

We used to come here often. Please note use of past tense. We hadn’t been here since March, no particular reason but it’d been six months. And sadly it’s gone downhill. We were seated at a large table which had a Lazy Susan turntable. Six tables have these. Ours was broken, would not turn. We pointed this out to the hostess, she said«we know» but no indication they intended to fix it. We placed our order, and they brought out the wasabi and ginger. The wasabi was RANCID, no spice at all and a definite taste of mold. Again the hostess was unconcerned, «I will bring you chili oil instead» Most of the rolls were okay, not as good as years past but ok. The tuna on the California Roll looked gray, not pink. I mainly ate cooked rolls. And lastly, there was no hand soap in the gent’s washroom. So sorry, «never again».

Fresh made to order appetizers, sushi, you name it! Exceeds expectations and friendly service and very tasty sushi. Better than upscale places I have gone to nearby. Very impressed and would highly recommend!

Please save your money and avoid this place. Complete rip off. We spent $ 60 bucks just to have all you can eat rice.

It’s ok. Sushi isn’t that great. It’s all you can eat so they make the roll half with rice so you can barely taste anything else. Hope you like just eating rice. Not coming back… ever

I love eating here for their lunch special. I come in around once a week. The all you can eat is 14.95 for lunch and 20.95 for dinner. They offer 2⁄3 of their menu sections for lunch and 3⁄3 for dinner. I would recommend this place to sushi lovers old and new. I’ve been around the country and sampled sushi in the U.S. And this place makes it into my top 3 favorite sushi restaurants.

Its not fair. Im from California. They drown their sushi rolls and sushi Nigiri with RICE here at sushi yah. I only came because a friend wanted to eat sushi. Utah is not a sushi capital. However, the service was nothing to praise. They kept saying we ordered all the sushi we ordered. But we didnt get any of it and again did i mention RICE, RICEBABY.

Decent sushi. The tempura inside the spider roll was really good, but almost too much to fit in my mouth(and I have a big mouth). The godzilla is good, but I didn’t like how much green onion was on it, I’ll remember next time to ask for a little less. I’ve been to the one in Orem a lot, and I don’t like how the interiors are so different. I was expecting a similar, more romantic kind of interior from the Midvale location, but it was just plain. Service was decent. They were good about filling the glasses, but at an all you can eat lunch, when our table of 4 is the only business you have, I expect to get my rolls a lot faster than what they did.

I wish I could put zero stars. I waited an hour and a half to get food that was room temperature. I watched all of my friends and the people around our table have two servings before they even took my order. When I tried pointing this out to my server, I was attacked. Think twice before stepping foot in this restaurant.

My boyfriend and I are regulars here. If you go at the right time it’s not too busy, but the service is usually not super fast. If it’s busy at all, you end up waiting forever, but if you go in the afternoon or just before the dinner rush it’s not bad. As far as my unrefined palette is concerned, the sushi as delicious. I’ve had better, but what do you expect from AYCE sushi? They have some really delicious rolls, and I’ve never eaten anything I thought was gross or didn’t taste fresh. If you’re looking for all your can eat sushi, this is a good bet for the Sandy/Midvale area. If you want fancy, super fresh sushi with amazing service, go somewhere else. Also, they have a stamp card you can get where after you eat 10 lunch/8 dinner meals, you get one free, which is nice.

Found another ACYE sushi place. My son and I were excited to try it. The service was good, the girl was really nice. She took our drink order and explained how the menu for lunch ACYE works; select from A and B menus, C is for dinner guests. She said that its $ 14.95 for ACYE lunch and if we order ala carte and it’s less than what we order they will charge for aka carte. If our order goes over the ACYE price, then they’ll charge ACYE price. She didnt know us but I let her know that we would be eating over the ala carte prices, always. The results: the fish wasn’t the freshest. I’ve had better hamachi, the tamago tasted like it was made earlier and refrigerated for later serving. The rice… no one gets this right! The rice should be fresh, not made earlier and refrigerated. Now that I review this, they probably prepped all the food earlier that day and that’s why it tasted like it was sitting in the fridge, cold all morning. The server checked on us and asked how was everything. I couldn’t bring myself to tell them this while I was there eating. The special spider roll I ordered from menu B wasn’t memorable. The Unagi was ok but the rice, man they need to do something about making it fresh. When the check arrived, she had taken off a little from my sons price since he was 9. Final verdict: I’d come back when I want ACYE Unagi but won’t look forward to much else than that.

I mean… If you are looking for top shelf, it ain’t. It’s all you can eat. But it’s not bad, and they are creative. The fish wasn’t bad, honestly. But it wasn’t crazy fresh gourmet. Rolls to try: CK Special, Utah Mountaing, Wasatch. Their Nigiri variety was great, and all of it looked great and tasted good.
