Switch Salon

I have gone to Alberto twice since moving to Salt Lake City and I’m so happy to have found him. I tend to be pretty nervous about getting haircuts since I only have it done about once a year or so. I stopped in on a whim to check the place out as I was exploring my new neighborhood. He took time to chat with me and tell me his suggestions for a hair style based on what I told him I was looking for (which was super vague to begin with). His experience and artistry were immediately apparent. So I booked an appointment when I was finally ready for a big chop. I have straight thick hair that looks pretty much the same no matter if I get a hair cut from an expensive salon or a cheap one. I was definitely impressed with his work, since it achieved an awesome look which was practical for my work/​lifestyle. And true to his predictions, it grew out really well too, which made it easy for me to go for a long time without another cut. My second time around I went to him for consultation about a hairstyle for my wedding. He immediately remembered me and how to manage my hair. Given only a description about my dress and very little further guidance from me (as all the wedding preparations left me very confused as to what would be best), he created the perfect look for me, my face and my dress. He took the time to trim my hair so that it would work ideally for the wedding day, even though I was not scheduled for such a long appointment. And he let me film his consultation as he gave point-​by-​point instructions to help my sister’s friend re-​create the look exactly for the big day, since it was in another state. I am not one to spend lots of money on personal grooming but I do find that he has been worth the price. Aside from his stand-​alone talent, the service he and his staff provide are superior. They really take care of you. It is a beautiful, cozy little salon that I will go back to again and again.

HORRIBLE PRICES! I would NEVER go there. As an African American woman, there are very few salons that I can go to that have experience with black hair. I heard through the grape vine that ALBERTO was really good at doing black hair. So I called to set up a consultation. I could not believe that Alberto wanted to charge $ 75 just for a 15 minute consultation. $ 150 for a haircut, and $ 100 PER OUNCE of relaxor that would be used on my hair. I mean, where are we? Hollywood!!! It seems to me that Alberto is taking advantage of the fact that there are not a lot of choices for African Americans. I am highly offended and would NEVER go there!

Once in a while I rate something that is off the charts and Alberto is one of those. If you simply want perfect hair, he’s it. I have him cut and color my hair when I’m in Salt Lake and I live in the Bay Area. He’s a master. And the salon is lovely.
