My husband and I have had numerous conversations about«true» scones and SLC city scones. I finally got to visit SLC with him and we went to many places that were things he grew up loving. We got the 6 pack of scones, all different varieties. I sat and ate them thinking they would be better than they looked. I was wrong. Perhaps I am spoiled, I’ve had simple, none stuffed bread with better flavor. It was nice to visit one of his childhood memories, but there was nothing special about it. Even he agreed they were better when he was a kid.

I’ve chosen this location as I’ve probably eaten there most, but the one in WVC and the other one in State street are right along the same lines. This local franchise was one of the first things open 24 hours and part of the draw for me, at one time, was this facet. The scones are pretty good, though not a true scone, I suppose. I’m not going to debate that, but the butter honey ones are an excellent and sloppy delightful mess. I’ve never gone away without getting at least one. The sandwich scones are also pretty good, though they have significantly cut down on the food quantity of those. The spicy cheese fries are a fatty greasy mess and if you go in for those, that’s exactly what you will get. Depending on when you get it, you will either get a combination of soft and mushy fries intermixed with crispy pieces or just the soft and mushy ones. Be warned. They are not particularly fast and I won’t say it’s because of them that Salt Lake decided to pass the anti-idling legislation, but I won’t say it’s not, either. Even when the place is completely empty and you eat inside, they’re still slower than they should be. I’m hoping this is because it’s made to order, but I haven’t really been too impressed by the staff ever, so it could go either way. If you do decide to eat inside one of these, you may want to re-think it. Chances are your car will be cleaner. Overall, this is an upgrade to and a nice change of pace from the normal fast food places around town(with a slight corresponding price increase), but how much so vastly depends on when you hit them. The slower the place is, the better your chances. They definitely are worth a try if you haven’t gone there before, though, if nothing else for the honey butter scone.

My favorite thing about this place is that it is open ALLNIGHT! I love me some late night icecream runs… or. wait… I meant… anyway, moving on! The icecream shakes are the bomb. I normally get the mint oreo and let me tell you they load that mother up with so many oreo cookies its not even funny! Also, the wraps and spicy cheese fries never disappoint. It’s usually very slow so you don’t have to wait long for the food. However, sometimes despite the lack of customers, it can be difficult to find a clean table. Minus one star for that.
