The Chocolate Mousse Caterers

A friend recommended Heather Castro of The Chocolate Mousse Caterers and it turned out to be a great recommendation. I hired Heather for a rehearsal dinner for 46 guests for my son and daughter-in-law’s gathering that included out-​of-​town guests. Everyone greatly enjoyed the food! But while the food is always very important, equally so for me, was Heather’s very professional attitude and her very responsive emails and phone calls. From the get-​go, she immediately sent me quotes and made helpful suggestions and delivered on all points! She was calm while I was crazed and that helped me immensely. I liked Heather a lot and I highly, highly recommend her. Our menu was casual and included pulled pork, roasted veggies, vegetable lasagna, salad, mac and cheese (that was a big hit!), rolls, potato salad, condiments, fresh fruit, chocolate covered strawberries and a sheet cake. It was all wonderful and there was more than enough food.

Heather cooks us three healthy and delicious meals a week and we couldn’t be happier. The price ends up being less than what we were spending on take out, all fresh, healthy and delicious.
She also did the cake for our baby shower which I’ll never forget…(not that I was actually at shower) …without us knowing, or asking anything about the theme, she took the initiative to go on our registry and match the cake to the comforter set for our daughter… So creative, and yummy from what I understand, by the time I got back there was non left.
I have nothing but good things to say about Heather and her cooking. Thanks for doing such a great job with everything!

I have ordered cakes or pies from Heather (several times) and then bring it to dinner party I am going to. The result is so delicious that people Thank ME for bringing it!

I’m sitting here eating Heather’s leftover cous cous (which I’m officially obsessed with), thinking about the beautiful wedding she made for us this past weekend in the Hudson Valley. From the planning stages in the months leading up to our wedding, to the day/​of, the quality of her service and food was professional, organized and generally superb. Reasonably priced and delicious, The Chocolate Mousse was the best decision we could have made for our special day. Heather went above and beyond, even stepping in to help with some of the event details and serving as an advocate when we hit some bumps in the event planning process. Fresh, delicious, unique salads, perfectly cooked meats hot off the grill, a friendly and helpful staff, I highly recommend The Chocolate Mousse for any type of affair. They catered brunch the day after the wedding as well, and Heather’s baked goods were fresh and DELICIOUS. You know you’ve chosen right when your guests are hugging the caterer at the end of an affair.

Every time I think about my wedding day, September 2009, I feel sorely disappointed. This vendor failed me in so many ways. She actually caused my ceremony at the church to start a half hour late because she was late with the flowers that she took responsibility for ordering as well.
I had asked for a very specific cake with actual frosting and even sent a picture in e-​mail for her to copy. She then proceeded to ask me clarifying questions about it in which I specifically told her the content of each layer and exactly how I wanted the outer detail. We had requested a chocolate layer especially for my husband who had just got home from serving in Iraq. It seemed like it was some other client’s cake or something. When I saw the cake the day of the wedding she used fondant instead of frosting. She just blanketed fondant over the cake (I was adamant about NO FONDANT) and put small piped balls where the layers met each other. My husband was horrified because he saw how plain it was and immediately knew it wasn’t what I wanted. She served an entire side of the room during the reception and they finished their meals before even a single guest on the other side was served an entrée. My husband’s steak was not fully cooked and served cold. I heard complaints all night and I hated my meal which we had talked about in great detail ahead of time.
The bad food probably could have been averted except the caterer avoided/​cancelled various scheduled tastings I had asked for before the wedding date. One day, when we were supposed to meet for a previously rescheduled tasting, she called to tell me we could still meet but her family accidentally threw away the food she prepared for me. Really? There is a litany of things that went wrong at my wedding because of this caterer but they are mostly things that disappointed myself and my husband and the guests probably didn’t notice. But I continue to think of all these details that were destroyed and important things about my night that were ruined. Like the previous poster mentioned, it was all «yes, of course» and promises that never surfaced. She did offer reasonable pricing but it certainly showed in the product. I think about it all the time till this day.

I’ve ordered meals from Heather and been at events catered by The Chocolate Mousse and have never been less than astounded at the creativity, versatility, and – most importantly – quality of the food.
I’ve recommended the Chocolate Mousse to several friends, each of whom thanked me for the suggestion because they were so thrilled. So thanks for the food AND for making me look good :)

I have had Heather and the Chocolate Mousse cater a few events over the last couple years. She always manages to provide great food and service on the varied budgets we had for our events. I highly recommend them for your next big or small event!

Heather Casto of The Chocolate Mousse is my caterer at monthly 3-​hour evening business meetings. I turned to her because I wanted tasty, well presented food for my clients with a minimum of fuss for me. The creative menus Heather provides are anything but run-​of-​the-​mill and the food is delicious and nutritious. The presentation is lovely and Heather takes care of everything from start to finish.
Since Heather began catering my events, I have been getting very positive comments about the food from the attendees, like «Wow, this is a big step up!» I would recommend The Chocolate Mousse to anyone looking to impress their guests with excellent food that’s elegantly presented.

My wedding was in October 2007 and I still have a bitter taste with the services this company provided. We dealt with Heather Casto directly. She agreed to our requests for the kind of food we wanted for our wedding reception. I am Chilean and my husband is Greek-​American. We provided the recipes for the food, with clear instructions. We are food lovers so we were available if the chef needed further instructions/​explanations and she knew this. To make a long story short, nothing was done the way it should. The food was cold (she could have mentioned before the wedding that she needed a heater to be paid for). Also the food was not cooked according to the recipes. Neither the cake, which was a thousand layer dulce de leche. It was nothing to do with the recipe. I mean you can miss some, and that would have been ok… but nothing like it? From a chef? When we had to cut the cake there were NO knife and spatula. How hard is to ask before hand if we needed this? We could have gladly paid for them. How «expensive» would have been just to just provide the knife and spatula in order to have a good service? Was I supposed to cut the cake with my bare hands?
Terrible service. Pure promises and nothing else. Avoid it!
