That phone number is disconnected. (I have NOT Looked there physically, though.)

I love Silver Screen Video! I think their staff rocks, especially Alex and Kai. They are beyond helpful and make you feel like a friend when you arrive. Alex is quite simply the best. And Jake has written and posted personal reviews of films that are insightful and in my opinion incredibly accurate. Working with the public is tough. I think the staff there manage it with great charm and integrity. I’d love to see a larger«Staff Choices» section and, since his death, I really wish there was an area dedicated to the brilliant work of Philip Seymour Hoffman. But that’s just me. Overall I think this place is a little gem. I strongly believe in supporting small local businesses and this one is a pleasure to support. All of the negative Unilocal are rather old and I am a new customer who only recently came back after years of being away. All my experiences there have been excellent. Perhaps the staff has changed but I say check it out again. I think you’ll be pleased.

I would not say the staff are falling over themselves to help BUT they ave always been nice and helpful and reasonably cheerful over the many years I have been going there. A decent resource for video locally. Also I have to say I am surprised by these complaints about late fees. They regularly reduce late fees for clientele who are NICEANDDECENT to them. I can only think these people who are having these problems are jerks, as so many Unilocalers seem to be.

I work here! I’ve worked at a few different video stores over the years and Silver Screen gets things right in many ways: 1) They have an impressive selection for a small space! 2) Employees are polite, courteous, and often go the extra mile to help customers. 3) Used DVD pricing is amazingly cheap! You can score some great movies here to own for as little as $ 4. 4) Over 95 percent of the movies for rent are 7-day rentals and 2-day rentals become 7-day within a matter of 2 – 3 weeks — that’s a great value. 5) «Rent 2 movies get 2 more movies free» on Sundays and Mondays — that’s just a little more expensive than redbox pricing(if you get 4) only instead of getting the movies for 1 day with redbox you get them for up to 7 at silver screen, not to mention your selection is about 200 times greater! 6) Late fees are a bummer in the era of Netflix but for small brick and mortar stores they are necessary. The good news is that Silver Screen will reduce late fees over $ 2 by 50% in most cases(this does not apply to movies that were not returned in 30 days and have been charged to an account for a replacement fee!) While the place may seem chaotic with overflowing shelves and small aisles, simply ask a staff member what movie you are after and they will personally retrieve it for you! HELPFULINFO: In regard to defective disks: We will spray and clean off discs before renting them to you — often times a thumbprint, dust, or other residue is the culprit of a disc that freezes. We also have a buffer that can repair light scratches and other damage to discs. Whenever you have a disc that doesn’t work you will get a credit for either another copy of that same item or a credit for another rental — as long as you do not have a pattern of abusing this policy(i.e. claiming that multiple brand new movies don’t work, asking for a credit with each movie you rent, etc.) In regard to collections charges: SSV owners do bill accounts with large unpaid charges for late fees or unreturned movies often. Most accounts with late fees under 50 dollars that have been active in the last year do not get sent to collection as we much prefer to take care of these matters as customers rent from us. If you stop renting or if you leave town, those chargers don’t magically disappear. if you need to dispute your collections charge, please call on weekday mornings and ask to speak with the owner. If the owner is not there, ask for the number to the silver screen main office. PLEASENOTE: The above sections are for informational purposes — they are not a defense of the store policies, just an explanation of how to best go about solving common concerns/complaints. I am not a manger and do not have a say in the implementation or creation of store policy, I just want to make the customers I see as happy as possible given the limited powers I have. In other words, «I’m more than happy to help ya, but keep in mind I just work here!»

I agree with Jim. I just received a letter from a collection company saying I owed late fees from 1& ½ years ago. I didn’t recognize any of the titles and even more surprising I never received a phone call letting me know they thought I owed them late fees on these titles. I called the owner directly, Debbie and she basically said she had nothing to say and for me to deal directly with collections. I rarely write on Unilocal, and if I do it is for positive reasons. After this experience, I felt compelled to let others know. Debbie’s attitude left me feeling that she really didn’t care about keeping her customers. I guess Netflix hasn’t hurt her business.

Great selection of movies, and it is nice that I can rent the movies for longer than 1 day if they are not brand new movies. Unfortunately, the staff makes me want to avoid Silver Screen Video like the plague. The staff is probably the rudest, unhappiest, most unfriendly group of people I have ever encountered. They don’t hide the fact that they either hate their life, their job, or a combination of both. When you go to checkout a movie the staff acts like you are inconveniencing them. They don’t even bother with a common courtesy like«hello», «thank you», etc. Today I walked in to return a movie and I said hello to the employee working and he could not even bother to say hello back. I will continue to frequent Redbox since it is way cheaper than Silver Screen and I don’t have to deal with attitudes every time I rent a movie.

Silver Screen is the worst video company on the planet. Now I know why class action law suits occur. I have had my credit hit twice over a 8 dollar video. I also realize why Amazon, Netflix and Hulu offer on line one time rentals! So easy to use and I will NEVER get a late fee.

Horrible place to rent DVD’s or Videos. We use to rent some movies from them but not anymore, they are telling us that we can no longer rent a movie until we pay them $ 45 dollars from late fees for a movie we NEVER have rented! We told them this many times, only to be told that we are lying and our name is in their computer that we rented it. We never rented this movie. So we tried to work something out with them and they treated us like a criminal. We asked for proof and all they tell us is that its in their computer so thats all the proof they need and we MUST pay or get out? We had to put our movies back and get out of the store until we pay them $ 45 dollars in full? I have never been treated so bad by a store before. I guess they have too many customers? Anyway I refuse to pay $ 45 dollars for something we NEVER rented. I guess they would rather lose a good customer then try and work something out? What make us even more mad is Its a MOVIE we NEVER even have heard of? O’well NEXFLIX he we come!

Yeah, I have to agree with other reviewers on two counts — they’ve got a great staff and solid selection but twice out of maybe ten rentals, I’ve had scratched discs, unable to view ‘em.

They will take you to collection agency for movies that were returned(same as Marie’s review noted below) and that will continue even after you are told it’s taken care of. What a hassle. Get Netflix instead, I’m all for supporting local businesses(and I do!) but not ones with shady business practices and B.S.(borderline illegal) intimidation tactics.

I can’t say enough great things about Silver Screen. They always seem to have enough stock of new releases when the hot new movies come out. Debbie, the owner is fantastic, always helpful and friendly.
