Wow! What an amazing find! Was looking for a cool lunch spot on Unilocal and stumbled across this place and their great reviews. Their reputation is well earned! Qoozi is delicious, seriously the best lamb shank that I have had in a long time. My friend from Iraq said that this is the most authentic Arabic food in San Antonio, hands down. Give it a shot, the place is clean and the service is friendly. Plus the prices are low.

I just left this place that should not even be called a restaraunt. I dont know who writes the great reviews for these places but something is terribly wrong with them. First, we get there and the table is dirty, then the lady who took our order forgot to bring water to my little sister, she didnt even ask what she wanted to drink before. Then we order our food, munch on some mediocre hummus, and my girlfriend and sister’s food comes out and the waitress asks if we’re still waiting on something(yes! MY order!!!) Waited a super long time to get this lamb sandwich and 5 – 10 mins after my girlfriend and sister finish their food(they shared) I get my order and the bread was cold and so was the meat. I took it «to go» and am throwing it away. Poor food and piss poor customer service. Never coming back. And if the workers are reading this or any Arabic speakers: Astaghfirullah!

Bad: portion size is ridiculously small. I got 8 tiny lamb pieces. Each piece was one tiny bite. I like smaller portions but this was a rip off. I ordered the tikka lamb. Bad: the lamb was dry. The quality of the meat was poor. Bad: the bread was rubbery. Bad: extremely slow service. Bad: the price. Too expensive for the small portion and poor quality. Good: the hummus had great flavor. Good: the people were very nice. I ordered the fish and lamb tikka with an extra hummus and bread. My bill was $ 38 I won’t be going back.

We absolutely loved this little spot. We had never eaten Iraqi cuisine until tonight. The flavors and aromas coming from this place are amazing. The food was wonderfully spiced and the portions generous. Unpretentious and very welcoming. Finally something besides burgers and tacos. Loved it

What a great little place. No frills. Fantastic kebob. Lamb was wonderful. Amazing bread, fresh out of the oven. Simple menu. Really friendly staff. The entire staff was really kind to our super fussy 2 year old. Will definitely be back.

This place has only been open for 4 months! I don’t really know much about Middle Eastern food, but I enjoyed my meal here. The person working was so sweet! I saw that she brought a table some really amazing looking fresh Iraqi bread and even though it didn’t come with my meal, she gave our table some anyways! The bread literally was fresh out of the oven because when I almost burned myself when I was pulling a piece apart. They also give you this dipping sauce that I think was comprised of olive oil and something else. Sauce was good. After your meal, they bring you tea at the end! Isn’t that sweet? Tikka Lamb(4⁄5): The portion size was quite generous! Probably had 8 – 12 pieces of lamb inside my sandwich. Everything was stuffed inside a pita – lettuce, tomato, onions, and lamb. The lamb was seasoned well and was not dry! I asked for some Italian sauce on the side because the sandwich itself did not come with any sauce, so it got dry after a while eating so much bread. Overall, this place is pretty sweet. Come check it out if you ever have a chance: D

My guy ordered the quizzo(sp?) and I Tikka chicken. Both were delicious but the quizzo was outstanding! The smell of cloves was present and they added white raisins to the rice which gave it a sweetness that was perfect! I’ll order this next time. Great hummus too. We ordered dessert, I have no idea what it was called but it was Philo dough baked with cream added on top. Overall buttery taste. We shared it because while not top sweet, it’s more than one person can handle. Will definitely go back!

Pros: Excellent food, clean restautant, and family-run. Cons: Somewhat limited menu, which I hope eventually expands. Vegetarians: The usual falafel plate offering. But these are, hands down, the best in San Antonio. I love this tiny, unassuming place. There are only about 6 tables in this sparsely decorated restaurant and I love it. The white walls have a hodge podge of decorations, including a picture of The Last Supper, a mounted deer head, a picture of a London phone booth, and a picture of a European café. And, looking into the kitchen area, you can read an Arabic invocation above the grill: In the name of Allah, the most Beneficent, the most Merciful. I hope they don’t change any of this because I LOVE the warmth and comfort of pluralism and multi-culturalism exuded by this place. In essence, the Iraqi family owners are saying: «We welcome and appreciate ALL our customers. Leave the world’s troubles outside the door and come and enjoy our hospitality.» In our world full of racial, cultural, and religious strife, this is place is an escape. An oasis. I cannot begin to tell you how much I appreciate this small detail. Beyond the stark cleanliness of the restaurant and the come as you are attitude, the food is simple, but powerful. It’s some of the best Middle Eastern food in the city. A young upstart of a restaurant, this place schools the other, bigger, better known Middle Eastern restaurants in town. The menu is limited. In other words, they know what they excel at and they do it extremely well. Baghdad Café happens to be home to the best kabob in San Antonio. Unlike other restaurants who overcook the beef/lamb kabob, Baghdad cooks it to tender, juicy perfection with just the right seasoning. Want a twist on your kabob? When it is served to you, reach across your table to the condiment tray and grab the sumac. It’s in a little shaker jar. The sumac is a deep reddish-brown color. Now, shake a little of that onto the kabob and you’ll be on cloud nine. Just make sure you don’t accidentally grab and sprinkle the black pepper, which is in a similar shaker! Vegetarians will be very pleased to know that the falafel are the best in town. Oh, man are they good! Fresh, perfectly fried, and light. Usually, most restaurants either overcook the falafel balls/patties or they don’t use absolutely the freshest ingredients. Here, they truly taste like the garbanzos were blended down for falafel balls only minutes after our order was taken. The ball was so fluffy and moist, I think the chef may have used a little baking powder to keep the texture soft. Whatever he/she did, the result was a perfect cooked, perfectly seasoned, fresh falafel. I was amazed. Though I didn’t try it, I was told that the special for the evening was fish, probably done in some traditional Iraqi style. They also have lamb and chicken tikka on the menu, which I will try upon my return. I was blown away by the courtesy, hospitality, and cleanliness of this little café on the multi-ethnic stretch of Evers Road. But the food… ahhh… the food was a dream.

Awww man. I love this place. Its small but convenient. The people who own and run the place are some of the sweetest people I have ever met in the restaurant business. They treat you like family. You don’t get that often. The food is equally good. Its made fresh and tastes like a piece of paradise. My favorite is the lamb. The lamb here is absolutely killer. The combination of spices used is just insatiable and mouth watering. Its as if they were concocted by Merlin the wizard. I love this place and id recommend it to everyone who is looking for a nice Arabic sandwich.

If you are tired of the same food SA has to offer on every corner come here! I have been going to the Little India Salon near here for about a year and finally stopped in at the many restaurants in this area. I have to say THISFOODWASAMAZING! I felt like I was eating at home. Simple ingredients with great spices. I wish I had taken a photo of my food but it came and then it was gone. LOL. The family who owns/works there were so kind and friendly. We dropped in for dinner but they said they have breakfast as well.

This place is pretty new in the area, and it’s fantastic! We stop by to grab sandwiches for lunch or dinner occasionally. They seem to use different breads on their sandwiches. One day our chicken schwarma was in a wrap, and another time in a roll. Both were delicious! I’ve been telling everyone to try this place out!
