My husband and I stopped in at Bob’s Steak & Chop House tonight on a whim. It was our first time there, but it definitely won’t be our last. Our first class experience began with courtesy valet. In the South Texas heat, that is a welcomed service! Although we had no reservations, we were seated right away and greeted by our waiter. The service was excellent and the food delicious! We ordered a shrimp appetizer that was superb, followed by a wedge salad. The plates were chilled, the lettuce crisp, and the flavor on point. The wedge was served with a little dressing underneath so the lettuce didn’t slide around the plate while cutting it. Next, we shared medallions of beef and lobster tail. We tried the fried lobster, and while it was good, I would order grilled next time. –Just personal preference. The filets were cooked to perfection and had terrific seasoning. Even though they were small medallions, they were tender and juicy. …and the wine list is extensive. We passed on dessert as we were full from our meal, but they looked delicious. I highly recommend Bob’s …and maybe I’ll see you there next time!

Came in today for the first time. 1.) Ambiance 8⁄10. I found it a little too dark. But that’s just me. love the decorations. The tables seemed a bit too close and crowded. Good thing we were seated at a booth 2.) Customer Service 9⁄10. We were seated right away. The waiter(Paul) was attentive. My water was never empty! 3.) Food 5⁄10. Meh… It was just okay. We started off with some complementary bread. It was huge, and the butter complimented it. Then we ordered lobster bisque, love the lobster chunks, and creamy. For the steak, I got 14oz ribeye, comes with glazed carrots and a side of some potato dish. The steak lacked flavor, but it was soft, and easy to chew. The marbled and fat were perfect portioned. Don’t really care for the carrots, it had some cinnamon and sugar glazed but I personally don’t like carrots. The potatoes were a bit salty and greasy. It came with some gravy and onions, nothing special. BF got some filet mignon, he seemed to enjoy it. Then we had a side of mac and cheese. The cheese that they put it in was so good!!! It had kind of a smoky flavor. Overall, the steaks weren’t really as good as the other steakhouses I have tried(ie J Prime). With that price, I would rather go somewhere else, pay a little bit more, but have a better flavor

I’ve never written a review about a steakhouse where everyone raves about a stupid carrot. Try this google challenge, type Unilocal carrot steak. You get every Bob’s Steak and Chop House location in America. I didn’t even like the damn carrot! It wasn’t soft, flavorful, or appetizing. More like a colorful plate divider. Famous pickles weren’t that amazing either. Thankfully, they can cook some meat. We dined as part of a group in one of the private event areas with about 20 – 30 other patrons. Service while attentive lacked in a few areas. Everyone begged for bread after the initial serving. Noting we probably had six or seven dedicated staffers this could have been better. What I did like was for the majority everyone’s steak came out cooked to order. No small task for a large private party. Me enjoying a filet cooked perfectly rare while ‘Ol Rooster’s mama downed a ribeye. Great mashed potatoes, flavorful sauteed mushrooms. A dessert sampler followed with house provided cheesecake along with a party provided 50th anniversary cake. Our server count improved dramatically as we ended the celebration in an attempt to get all the plates washed. I’m guessing they realized they were slacking and didn’t want to be rolling silverware and shining glasses till midnight!

Don’t ever go changing the recipe for a steakhouse! Dark woods cover the walls, a great selection of whiskey at the excellent bar, and delicious steaks. The staff is dressed in typical steakhouse attire and it is appreciated as so many of these fancy modern steakhouses have taken to relaxing the atmosphere and losing the tradition. Bob’s is the traditional steakhouse come dressed nicely, relax and enjoy a well prepared meal. So many times I would rather prepare a steak at home because many places use thin cuts cooked at heat that is too low, Bob’s is the exception in San Antonio. High heat gives a great maillard reaction and treats the taste buds to crisp crust and luscious tender meat on the inside. The carrot served with the steak is just the right bit of sweet and savory. All in all and excellent meal and I look forward to returning.

Came here last Friday, after making a dinner reservation for 7. Bill was over $ 500. Service was slow… really slow. Almost 15 mins to get our order, and another 45 mins to get our food. Waiter was polite. but unattentive. Steaks were okay, some grossly overcooked, some undercooked, but after waiting so long, we had to eat. Dessert was awesome. Needed constant reminders to the staff to refill beverages and breads. For the price and competition in the area, I’d go elsewhere.

Very good food, kinda pricy but we’ll worth it. If you go for a special occasion let them know when you make your reservation and they will do something special for you.

Pretty sure my last review of this place was much higher. Tonight we went for our daughter’s 18th birthday. Service was slow, he apologized a few times, but it took away from the experience for me. Our daughter ordered her steak medium. I could tell by the hot plates that our order sat in the window too long. Her steak was well done. She didn’t care, but I do. My duck was miserably over cooked. I waited tables for 12 years before I became a teacher, so I totally understand the pre-Valentine’s Day busyness, but this restaurant has much higher standards than your average restaurant. Not sure if we will return.

Worth. Every. Penny. My husband and I love to try ridiculously expensive steakhouses for special occasions. Bob’s is the only steakhouse I would return to, and dream about often. Service was superb! Food even better! The fillet was velvety smooth in your mouth, and was well seasoned. There was absolutely no chewiness like I find with other steaks. I didn’t even really need a knife it was that tender! I typically don’t eat beef, but I am so glad I did because there was no way my husband would have let me share his plate! The 6 oz was perfect for me, especially because we had the giant gingery steamed carrot and Mac and cheese to go with. We finished off our delectable entres with a peanut butter chocolate brownie sundae. It was gigantic! Definitely a dessert for at least 4 ppl. If you don’t like steak, but your husband wants to go to a steakhouse, go here! It won’t disappoint!

First time here. I was here for a meeting. Great appetizers, calamari, lamb Popsicles and lamb on toast the horseradish very over powering. Wine was great during meeting. I ordered the ribeye and it was amazing. Comes with mashed potatoes and huge glazed carrot. Pumpkin cheesecake was awesome, the crust was the best part. Had a drink at the bar and staff was great and entertaining.

THis place is fantastic. The best apps(I normally get the lobster bisque), and the steak is to die for. They serve it with potatoes and carrots and it all tastes fantastic. I also got dessert and don’t regret the crazy price I ended up paying because it was so worth it. They had a special for the Kobe beef, and of course I got that over the prime and the steak cut like butter. Omg the filet was to die for!

Cyberonic’s Theo graciously hosted a seminar at the premier wine & dine spot of suburban San Antonio. State of the art technology was matched by clinical expertise, & Megan & Geneva promptly served up seemingly endless hors d’ oeuvres, as well as succulent salmon & tender/thick/juicy steaks. Great place & occasion for learning essentials & treating taste buds. Bob’s seems to be the venue for just about everything. Go there.

We went here after having a truly awful experience at another restaurant. I’m so glad we went though, because we had fantastic steak and excellent service from our server James. Yes, this place is a little pricey, but for the standards and service it’s well worth it. I had the 9oz. Filet Mignon and my husband had the t-bone, both medium rare. The bread was served fresh from the oven and I love the glazed carrots that came with our steaks! TLDR: worth every penny, we’ll be back asap to try the lobster.

Bobs is usually a five star experience, but this evening was a little lackluster. They were running a 3 for $ 35 special. That would be three courses for 35. This was celebrating«San Antonio Culinary Week» or something like that. The extremely limited menu for that«event» was a joke. We ended up ordering off of the regular menu instead, and did enjoy our meal. Perry’s runs a 4 for $ 44 special every July in celebration of their Anniversary. This is a TRUE deal with all the choices they have for their offer.

I’ve been a fan of Bob’s for years, and with a wonderful friend coming to visit me from DC, I thought it was time to try the San Antonio location. Thankfully, the steaks here are on par with those I have found at the Dallas location. While the ribeye is excellent, I went with my personal favorite, the filet mignon cut. The version at Bob’s has a nice peppery crust and is cooked a perfect medium rare. The meat consistency is fork tender, and the texture is fine. There is a reason Bob’s is considered one of the ten best steakhouses in Texas, and it’s because they have simply perfected the art of cooking a perfect steak. Of course, you get the trademark glazed carrot with your meal(slightly overrated in my mind). Like Dallas, you get a choice of your potato side(skillet potatoes is my favorite), and I complimented by order with a wonderfully rich lobster bisque as well as a delightfully creamy spinach preparation. I also chose to enjoy my steak with a solid dirty martini, but you can find a better one at Perry’s in La Cantera. Prices are pretty standard at Bob’s for a high end steakhouse(expect to pay between $ 40 and $ 60 per steak, $ 8 – 15 per appetizer or side, and approximately $ 15 per cocktail), but I would argue the product is certainly better than standard. It’s great to have Bob’s in San Antonio, and I certainly look forward to future visits.

What an excellent dining experience. We came for the prix fixe menu of Restaurant Week and were not disappointed. Rene was an excellent waiter and was very attentive without trying to upsell us. They bring out some nice homemade dills pickles to start and then soem of the most perfectly baked bread I have had. It’s crispy and crusty on the outside and light and airy inside. I have the Caesar salad which was good without being over dressed. But the best part of the meal were the filet medallions. Cooked medium rare they were among the best beef I have ever eaten. The skillet fried potatoes were excellent with the peppercorn gravy. I even dragged my filet through what little excess was on the plate to get every last drop. Dessert was a nice piece of chocolate cake that wasn’t so large that you couldn’t enjoy it. Bob’s Steak & Chop House is a first class establishment.

Compared to other steakhouses at comparable price points, Bob’s simply misses the mark. Was in town for a conference when one of my colleagues asked to try Bob’s because they were listed in one of the Sky Magazine advertisements as one of the best steakhouses in the country. This is when I should have known better. Our party of 5 arrived at 7:30pm on a Monday at which time we were grilled over the status of our reservation. As the restaurant only had 3 other tables seated and a handful of folks at the bar, didn’t understand why we were given the 3rd degree. After about 5 minutes with the hostess figuring out the reservation error, we were sat in a well appointed open dining space and greeted by our server. While the servers are attentive, the service here is scripted, forced, and our party was interrupted several times to prod along the meal. Felt very rushed(in a rather empty restaurant) and very little help with respect to recommendations. The old«everything here is good» routine. We sampled our way through salads, a new bacon wrapped shrimp appetizer, and the bread and pickles they bring to the table. Not sure what was supposed to be so special about those pickles, but they were as plain as could be. As for the bacon wrapped shrimp, the bacon was way overcooked leaving the shrimp dried and tough. The wedge, on the other hand, absolutely stellar. For our entrees, we ordered a mix of the steaks with tableside potato service, garlic mashed potatoes, and sauteed mushrooms. As per usual, the filets came out with their signature massive glazed carrot and it was fork tender and extremely tasty. Probably the best thing on my plate all night. As for the steaks, the whole reason we were here, major disappointment. Half of them were prepared to incorrect temperatures and mine was absolutely flavorless. Had a 12oz filet that was beyond charred on the outside creating everything from well done on the outside to completely rare in the center. Compounding it even further was the garlic mashed potatoes that were as bland as the steak. For the kind of money they were charging, the steak and side should have some serious wow factor. The best dishes on the table were the carrots and mushroom sides. Definitely not worth the premium price point they charge and have honestly had better steaks from other chains at half the price. Wouldn’t return On a side note, they have complimentary valet service, gorgeous gas lamps at the entrance, and a truly intimate and spacious dining area. Just wished the food matched the ambiance.

Ok, I must begin my pointing out that my friend and I came to Bob’s for Restaurant Week. It was a Saturday night and they were very busy, but we had a reservation, so no problem. I heard other people being told there was at least a 1 hour wait. The hostess was very friendly and took us to our table right away. Everything seemed to be going in the right direction, or so I thought… So our waiter greets us and asks what we would like to drink and proceeds to upsell us on everything from a wine recommendation that was the most expensive choice and an overpriced appetizer. REALLY $ 18 for 3 bacon wrapped shrimp? And of course, they conveniently«ran out» of the pork chop choice on the prix fixe entrée menu. I was trying really hard to not get cranky and ruin my friend’s experience. The wine was tasty, but $ 17 for ONEGLASS of wine, REALLY? Then, it took waaaaayyy to long for our salads and then our entrees to come. I’m pretty sure we waited about an hour for our entrée. The whole dinner experience was about 2 hours. We’re not in Europe, for me that’s too long to sit at a dinner table, am I right? Dessert was fine, not delicious, just fine. Funny, when we got our check, the waiter was really quick about running our credit cards, maybe, just maybe, he could see we were ready to go :) Yeah, this is, to me, an elitist restaurant. Not that great for the prices(mind you, we ordered off the Restaurant Week menu-other people were paying probably triple what we did!) I guess some people like dining places where they feel special, where not many people can afford, or for that matter are willing to pay those prices. Kind of like a special club you could say. They don’t need to worry, I won’t be going back any time soon. I should also mention they have an interesting bar situation happening. There were quite a few people having a great time at the bar, not sure if they were waiting on a table or just hanging out there. Good for them, I think they had the right idea!
