Let me start by saying that Café Punta del Cielo did not disappoint. The frappé had a stronger espresso flavor than Starbucks or most other places I’ve had, but it was a nice boldness that let the coffee speak for itself, rather than drowning the flavor in sugar. The carrot cake was similarly delicious, to the point where I could actually taste the carrot. It was at this point I was shocked to realize I can’t remember ever having had carrot cake that actually lived up to the name. Like the coffee, it wasn’t overly sweet(the cream cheese frosting, however, was perfectly sweet), but had just the right amount of sugar so that it wasn’t a bland brick. The atmosphere of Punta del Cielo was also very nice, I was there in the early morning, so not too crowded. Overall, it was a solid choice and worth checking out.

Café Punta del Cielo finally brings the long desired Mexican feel to the San Antonio coffee shop industry. Its kind of the Mexican starbucks. Think… Monterrey plants a shop in San Antonio. The downside is that the coffee just isn’t very good. They were missing a lot of products as well and at the end of the day, it was something like starbucks but not on par with starbucks quality, which isn’t saying much. Two stars though because I appreciate the fresh perspective on coffee that is so needed in our city.

I seldom post reviews for coffee, but this one was just too good to pass up. I’ve driven past the place a few times(and I’ve seen the coffee cup advertising it on the access road). While it’s not super-visible from the road, it’s well-worth the trip to go into the shopping center and skip drive through and take a few minutes to go into the shop. It’s comfortably large – with a variety of seating options… tables for four, raised bar-style seating for one or a group, some chairs with little smaller conversation tables between them. They even have a clear-walled-off conference room. I had the chocolate mocha(a safe«tester» beverage for me), and it was honestly the best I’ve had. Not too sweet but without the bitterness I’ve come to associate with a lot of the chain coffee places, it was awesome. The prices were reasonable too — $ 4. 25 for a 12 oz seems pretty pocket-friendly. While the crowd was steady, it never felt crowded at all.

Hidden gem in the Mellow Mushroom shopping center. Their coffee comes from Oaxaca, Veracruz and Chiapas. The cappuccino was rich and velvety, the foam was a work of art, and the cinnamon topping was such a nice compliment that with that and the richness of the carrot cake, I didn’t have to add sugar. The presentation shows a lot of love to detail. Desserts are rich and fancy. Sorry Starbucks, there’s a new sherif in town! Staff was very friendly and proud to share their coffee roots.

I was really excited to finally give Café Punta del Cielo a try! I was definitely not disappointed. My husband had a latte and I had a cappuccino. Both were delicious and served at the perfect temperature. Quality of coffee is taken seriously here and you’ll taste the difference at Café Punta del Cielo. We had two small cookies which were tasty but I am looking forward to tasting their conchas next time(they were out when we went). Overall, Café Punta del Cielo offers a variety of beverages for the coffee/drink Connoisseur in all of us.

environment: on point. neutral brick and exposed concrete walls with a balance of birch woody tones to mute the industrial vibe. loved the holiday addition of christmas lights and the picturesque tree in the corner. so of course, as far as any sort of hardcore studying goes, outlets are muy importante. they do have outlets at various points along the wall, but nothing on the floor. so if you’re studying at a table or any area not against the wall, you may be out of luck. and there aren’t actually any tables against the walls– just some couch-type seating and a bar lined with stools. what initially sold me on checking out this place was the conference/study room that could be reserved. coffeeshop traffic can be unpredictable so i’m generally hesitant to try and do any serious studying at coffeeshops because i don’t know how hectic and loud it’ll get. i contacted café punta before coming in and reserved the study room without any issues, but when i arrived, i was informed that they required a $ 25 minimum spend in order to use the room. i probably would have spent that much during the course of my day studying here without a problem, but my friend and i didn’t want to be obligated, so we opted to just study in the general seating area. it would be nice if the minimum spend information were posted somewhere, or if they could just get rid of that policy altogether. even if only 2 people used the room and each person got a drink + pastry, that would easily add up to $ 25, so i don’t think they need to worry too much about enforcing a minimum spend. alternatively, it would be nice if they could consider making the study room free to use if there were no other existing reservations for the day! i would definitely be back more if there was a reliable, quiet place to study. the background music is decent for studying. good elevator music type stuff that is easier to zone out than anything with lyrics. it could be turned down a tad but that’s probably just my adhd talking. it’s probably just fine for most people! service: friendly baristas who seem knowledgeable about the drinks(although a bit unsure regarding the study room policy). brought our drinks over to where we were sitting and came by later on to check if we needed anything. drinks: oaxaca chocolate mocha was rich and smooth, but to me, was so sweet it could almost pass for just a darker hot chocolate. i didn’t catch much of a hint of espresso because the thick chocolate was a tad overpowering. great for people who are fans of starbucks and super sweet drinks, but i could do with a touch less sugar. drinks are $ 4 – 5 depending on the size, so prices are somewhat comparable to starbucks as well(aka not cheap). i can’t exactly rate the coffee itself bc i couldn’t taste it much, but maybe next time i’ll try out a plainer latte. someone mentioned that they offered almond milk, but when i asked, they only had soymilk(60 cent upcharge). aside from coffee, they also offer a selection of fruit smoothies for $ 5 – 6. might give one a try next time. food: a small selection of pastries. nutella cake was just okay– on the dry side, but worked okay with my mocha. it was just a regular coffeecake/poundcake-type pastry with a couple thin ribbons of nutella. i am a sucker for anything nutella-related, but this was a bit of a letdown, especially for the price. they also sell a couple different premade sandwiches and a bagel+cream cheese. wifi: pw posted on walls so you don’t have to go up and ask for it like at many other coffeeshops. speed wasn’t super amazing, but decent for light studying(16mbps). the wifi was fine for the first hour or so that i was there, but as more people started coming in, it began to kick my friend and i off the network every 5 min or less and sometimes would have trouble re-connecting… slightly maddening when you’re doing work that requires internet! location: i so wish they would open up a location in the med center with a study room! but of course, the whole place would probably be overrun with students. idk how often i can make it up here since it’s a bit of a drive, but at least there are some decent options for food nearby and i could probably make a day of being in the area. temperature: this is probably the main thumbs down for me. despite it being gloomy, and rainy out to begin with, the temp inside was freezing– even colder than it was outside. i was in a long sleeved thermal shirt and a fleece and still cold to the point where i had to periodically rub my hands together. there was a constant, overpowering and chilling breeze from the overhead AC that kind of ruined the otherwise cozy vibe of the coffeeshop. wonder if they would be open to adjusting the temp if a customer asked? it would also help keep our hot drinks warm for longer! my mocha was cold when i was only halfway done drinking it. overall, 4.5 stars. glad to have this as another study spot option in town. just hoping they expand to be closer to the med center!

There are quite a few coffee houses in Stone Oak but this one is tucked away in a quiet alcove in a nice looking shopping and dining area. While I have never been in Café Punta del Cielo during what I would consider«peak» hours, the few times I have been there they have been nearly empty and this, at least for me, is a bonus. The interior is fairly modern industrial in its architecture — poured concrete with an exposed ceiling displaying the duct work. They have a nice, if rather smallish, study room that is glassed. I believe you must reserve the area or, if you’re lucky, just ask for to use it if no one else is. The menu is Spartan in that they do not have a lot to choose from. The coffee is the star attraction so if you’re expecting Starbucks-style creations, this is not your place. They have the typical lineup of coffee beverages to include black coffee, lattes(a few syrups to choose from), hot chocolate, teas, and a few blended drinks. Café Punta del Cielo also has food for sale consisting of some prepared sandwiches and some cakes e.g. carrot cake. They also have an assortment of small cookies to choose from. Unilocal check ins will get you a FREE cookie. If do have to ding them a bit on being understaffed and slow. I guess those two things go hand in hand. Even with the place empty my wife and I usually wait around 8 – 10 minutes. Outdoor seating is available as is free WiFi. The staff is quite friendly, and the seating is usually plentiful. A sofa and a couple of arm chairs are available in one corner, too.

I’ve been on a continuous hunt for new coffee shops and potential study spots. I decided to try punta del cielo because of a groupon coupon. The thing I loved most about this place was that it was pretty empty, on a Saturday too. That means it’s an optimal quiet place to study. The shop even has a small glass room for people that wish to hold meetings there. I ordered the oaxaca chocolate mocha and decided to try the lemon pound cake. The mocha was rich(a bit overwhelming with the chocolate imo), but sadly, the lemon pound cake was extremely dry, small, and not worth 5 dollars… The coffee is okay but skip the pastries. I probably wouldn’t come here if I didn’t have a groupon. Local coffee is very close and I see myself choosing Local Coffee over this shop.

A new coffee shop chain from Mexico! Beans are grown and roasted across the border and crafted into delicious caffeinated beverages here in the Stone Oak neighborhood. The iced espresso was a tasty treat to start my weekend, and the private meeting area is a nice touch that will likely get used frequently in this neighborhood. I like the small touches here that show the staff going above and beyond to provide a great experience: local daily papers laid out by section for customers to read while they visit(or grab and go for free!), cute chalk art signage by the entrance, and a drink recommendation with your genuine«Good Morning!» greeting. I hope they have plans for expansion, because it feels like they’re going to fit right in on this side of the border.

This place is legit, y’all. I normally wouldn’t come all the way out here for coffee, but with social media buzzing about it along with a Groupon helped get my butt in gear. The staff was friendly and helpful, suggesting a few items for us and explaining the ones we didn’t know about. Although they had some delicious sounding beverages, both of us chose Americanos(one hot and one iced). I had them add some vanilla syrup and soy to mine because that’s what I do, and it was so yum. I’ve had many Americanos from the *bucks, and they have been super watery compared to this one. My husband loved his iced Americano, and gave high praise to this coffee place. The set up inside is super cool, too. It was a bit dark and quiet, but that might be a really good thing if you’re trying to work. They have some small bites and sandwiches as well, so you could hang out for awhile. If the Groupon is still available, I suggest snatching it up! Either way, get out here for some delicious espresso.

What a joy to discover this Stone Oak coffee shop recently! It is always good to have an alternative to Starbucks, and although this is probably less than a mile away from the excellent Local Coffee it is likely to become a new favorite for my husband and I. I’m primarily a mocha drinker and we tried both the warm and iced Oaxaca mochas(white chocolate mochas also available). So yummy – smooth, not at all bitter– and the piece of toasted cinnamon cake we had to accompany these was incredible. High attention to detail here from the friendly greeting to the impeccably clean cozy modern design carried on down to the mugs, forks and plates. The patio area was very welcoming with the stone design from the strip center. I can’t wait for temperatures to cool off so I can comfortably sit out there!

Absolutely will be returning. Phenomenal customer service. I arrived before they had a chance to open up. The gentlemen there apologized for the inconvenience and actually brought the coffee to my office once they got the store open. WOW! I could not have asked for a better experience. On top of that, the Oaxaca chocolate mocha is amazing.
