Tucked in the back of this unassuming convenience dive is one of the best authentic taco spots in downtown. Something many tourists and food snarks look for is this magical place of wonder and awe where amazing food is made at cheap cost and devoid of the trappings of long lines. Now, of course there are a number of places in SATX that partially fit this bill, but like most cities, these places don’t actually exist. Restaurants who have little customer base are unlikely to be turning out incredible food each day without some form of local press or social media exposure. It’s financial trade-off. Ceasar’s Convenience Store therefore defies much logic. A charming, old Mexican woman wakes each morning, cooks from near scratch and delivers hard fought food. No lines. No absorbant pricing. No feature in the Current. She’s little flair, all business. It is with heavy heart that I break the social walls of this last bastion of true local fare. Get there while you still can.
