Went here the other day to grab some drinks. Overall, walking in the place has a cool vibe. They play primarily reggae music and have about 50 beers on tap that is listed on a screen with the price and alcohol percentage. The downside of this place is their cleanliness, service, and beer knowledge. We went there and everyone ordered the Ballast Point Grunion Pale Ale. When we drank it though, we knew it wasn’t the actual beer and the bartender insisted that it was. Lucky for us, we were with a Ballast Point distributor so he looked at the tap and confirmed that it in fact wasn’t the beer we had requested. The service was highly lacking. There was one lady working and maybe 10 at most people in the place. But it was fairly calm, yet she didn’t walk around to ask us if we need more after our empty glasses sat there for over 15 minutes. As for cleanliness, the toilet paper and paper towels were empty in the restroom. Also, there was a pile of looks like swept up trash just sitting on the ground near a table. Sadly, I wish this place was better, but I don’t see myself coming back.

I really like this place and the great selection of beers they have. Our server was really knowledgable about the different options. Its pretty small on the outside but they have a nice patio as well. My only gripe is that I wish they had a bigger food menu but other than that, 4 stars!

Horrible!!! Went there last night to treat my husband for Father’s Day. There was 1 patron at the bar and 1 worker behind the bar. He acknowledged us as we walked in and that was it!!! We sat there for 10 minutes and then walked out. So disappointed!!!

I’m a beer novice… I usually prefer wine or liquor, but occasionally a cold pint just hits the spot. When I do want a beer, I always want to try something new but I never know what to order, so I usually fall back on my standbys. Well if you’re like me, go to Claude Hoppers and sit at the bar when David is working. He’s awesome. He has actually assisted with the opening of some local breweries and really knows his stuff. My husband and I just gave him a little info on what we like, and he gave us some samples to share, got our opinions, and went from there. I learned a lot, and had enjoyed the full glasses I ordered. The atmosphere is better than average for a growler place, and the prices are better than most. But on the Sunday night we went it was pretty dead… only 4 tables total in 2 and a half hours. They must be like that most Sundays because poor David was the only guy working! He even had to cook the food we ordered! Not to mention pour drinks, wait tables, and clean. Yet he still spent time with each customer, helping make great recommendations. That’s impressive. The food was mediocre, but what do you expect when your bartender makes it? We got pizza and wings. The lemon pepper wings were way too sour(too much lemon), but the garlic parmesan wings were pretty good, and the pizza was fine. After a few drinks it would really hit the spot, but definitely don’t come here for dinner like we did. As many other reviewers have said, eat before you come. Even if you fancy yourself a beer connoisseur, still ask for David. I’m sure you’ll enjoy hours of beer bro talk.

My wife and I decided to go to Claude Hoppers based off of a Groupon that she had. We have been to a couple of other local beer gardens and we really enjoyed Claude Hoppers. We were there on a Saturday around 7pm and even though it was around their peak time, there were only a few other customers. More came trickling in as the night grew on but it was not so crowded that we felt uncomfortable. Starting off with the facility, it is nicely decorated with modern touches such as hanging lights and an open ceiling. There are nice fluorescent light words over artful beer related pictures. It was clean and inviting. The outdoor patio was very nice with the water wheel fountain and surrounding décor. We chose not to go outside due to how warn it was because the air conditioning was nice indoors. My wife ordered the pizza and I had the street tacos. Both were tasty and satisfying. They leave the seeds in the jalapeños so it adds a bit of kick to the pizza which can interfere with tasting the beers they offer. The street tacos were made well but the tortilla they used was different than I was used to. It was more of a white color but didn’t taste like a flour tortilla but it wasn’t an issuer for me as it tasted good. The staff was friendly and willing to answer questions about some of the beers. They appeared to be knowledgable and cared for what they did. The prices were right about what we have seen at other beer gardens like this. My wife and I had a few beers between us and they were all well taken care of meaning they were not flat or improperly stored. We were considering getting a growler as they were offering a nice price on a local brew but decided not to as we already had some beer at home that we needed to take care of. I liked the music they were playing initially as it was some older harder rock and you just don’t hear that often in a business. But, I am more inclined to listen to that music where my wife likes more alternative but she didn’t seem to mind. Later in the evening they started to play more alternative, crowd friendly music and that was fine too. I would say that the music could have been turned down a bit as I had to raise my voice more than I wanted to in order to hold a conversation with my wife but Im kind of a old fogey so some people may not have a problem with it. Overall we enjoyed ourselves and would like to go back again when we have time for another night out.

This a relaxed place and I have been here many times. With that being said, there have been many unpleasant experiences here as well. You can never really know what to expect as there is no consistency. The customer service can be very terrible or sometimes you get the bottom of the barrel beer. I’ve also seen people smoking weed on the patio and vaping literally on the spouts. EXTREMELY unprofessional. Recently, I experienced customer service so rude and passive aggressive that my regular bartender the next night invited us back to Claude’s and he said he will take care of it. We didn’t really want to go out but if he said he’d take care of it then what the heck! We paid for our tab and he just said sorry for the night before. I left a bit sour that night and definitely not satisfied. I wasn’t even going to go to the bar that night but the bartender said he would take care of it so why not! I was DUPED! I did like this place but I am instead going to find somewhere else to enjoy craft beers.

Loved it. The variety and quality of the beer was amazing. Bartenders are knowledgeable and happy to give you background and samples of the beer. Great place to hang out. Patio is great. The flatbread was delicious. Avoid the Cajun wings. Waaay too salty and dry. Hummus was not good either. Stick with the beer and flatbread and you’ll be golden.

Great beer selection at great prices! Friendly staff and a cozy atmosphere. So what’s not to like? The food! Food choices are minimal(not a problem for me) and the offerings range from poor to mediocre. Not to mention almost every time I’ve been there they have been out of a substantial number of the menu items. This speaks to a problem with the management so I don’t blame it on the employees. My advice: Come here for the beer, but plan to eat either before you come or after you leave…:-(

Claude Hopper’s is a great little beer joint. They have an excellent selection of craft beers from all over the United States, with a special emphasis on Texas brews. They let you try a sample of any beer before you purchase a whole glass, which is nice. The two negatives of this place would be a lack of service and a very limited food selection. The service is friendly and efficient, but they appear to be understaffed. If you go on a night when they’re out of pork, you won’t be able to get sliders or tacos. If you want to just relax outside and enjoy a beer, this is a great place to go. Just don’t come too hungry.

If you’re into craft beers this place is for you. Nice selection of beers on the tap to try. Good prices to get your growler filled. However, if you’re into having a meal, better go there with a full stomach.

Ummm… This place is weird. I’m not saying it is good or bad. Just weird. We come in and there are maybe five people in the bar but these two guys are running around like crazy. Why? Who knows. Then, one of the bartenders is impossible to understand. My boyfriend thought he asked about the beer that my boyfriend was drinking so he said honestly that he didn’t think it tasted right. Well the impossibly understandable bartender just decided to comp our beer. Then the other bartender convinced us that we didn’t want our beer comped. The food was super salty and just not that good. I don’t know how better to describe this experience. Just so bizarre.

This is a diamond in the rough! Prices are on point, better than comparable craft beer bars/growler filling stations in town. I just moved from San Diego, and this place is awesome. If your into craft beer, you MUST check it out! They have a small plate menu too! Great good, great beer and great prices!

I’m going to say it. Best bar in San Antonio. It’s small, quiet, clean, friendly staff, most excellent drinks, perfect place to chill and grab a beer. Try the honey Guadalupe beer, it will make you believe in God again.

I’ve gone here with my spouse and friends a couple of times and we have really enjoyed it. Lots of craft beers that are posted on a board behind the bar, and the staff is more than happy to explain the styles so that you can better select a beer. The selection is not to the level of The Flying Saucer, but in my opinion it does not have to be. They rotate through a varied brews to keep things interesting. The establishment is both inviting and friendly at the same time. I think it is the décor, which has a nice wood bar, high tables and booths that invite you to sit and relax. Also, thank god, the music or TVs are not blasting your ears off. No need to try to read lips while ordering or just speaking to your friends or spouse. It is a small space, but it is further enhanced by the outdoor space which has the feel of a beer garden, with a water feature to keep things interesting. Now, some people will complain that it is super far from other locations. Far from where? If you live in this area(north side), which I do, then it is not far from anything. Far from downtown? Yeah, but my life does not revolve around downtown anyway. When I want to go to The Pearl, South Town, etc. I plan for it and just go. I don’t bother with thinking that it is too far. This place is more of a small, neighborhood bar with friendly staff, great beer, and no parking issues. Oh, and I can walk to it because it is that close. Overall, Yeah, I’m a fan!!!

Still our go to place for a beer. I love the atmosphere here. It’s relax, chill, and a great place to meet new people. No snooty peeps here which is nice. Josh is an excellent bartender who knows his beers. Come on by!

One of the nicer growler stations in town. This place is hidden away off Blanco Rd. 50 plus craft beers on tap all avaliable to take home in glass or stainless steel growlers. This was my first time here and have to say it was a very relaxing environment. Music was good and not too loud. I will defiantly come back. The only thing I wish it would have is actual beer tap handles. This gives me something to stare at while I’m sitting at the bar.

This is a chill little spot perfect for when you want some great Texas craft beer and a cool atmosphere. My husband and I visited on a Saturday night, and it was surprisingly(and thankfully) not packed. The tables were full, but we sat at the bar and had great service. We had a million options to choose from, and they were nice enough to include prices for the beers as well(which I always appreciate). We also ordered some classic pretzels, which were okay as a side to the beer but probably not worth getting again. We will definitely keep this in mind for future visits when we have friends in town or just want a cool place to hang out and enjoy a delicious beer.

Before I dig into this review, I’d like to say I’ve been to numerous growler stations and think I’ve developed a pretty good basis of comparison/expectations. This place is super far from San Antonio. Okay I got that out the way. There’s plenty of parking and indoor/outdoor seating. The outdoor patio is set up kind of like a beer garden, but there’s no walk-up window service. There is wait staff though, so that’s cool. Immediately I was impressed with the selection of beers. Not sure how often they change them, but for a first timer it was a change for sure. The indoor area has booths, high-tops, bar seating and a little cove in the back. Liking that. The staff was cool too. The food is better than bar food. I mean they offer humus and pulled pork tacos. Whaaaaaat?! Some things I really didn’t care for were no ½ pours, flights and condiment taster cups. If I’m willing to commit to paying a little extra for craft beer, then I’m definitely not okay with plastic taster cups. Every other craft beer spot offers glass tasters. I understand they offer flights now, since my visit about 3 weeks ago. Pros: Beer selection FOOD(Most growler spots don’t have food) Parking Growler prices Drink growlers on premises Cons: No Flights No ½ pours(must commit to full 16oz) Distance Plastic taster cups No designated tap handles

I usually write reviews when the existing reviews do not represent my experience. This is a great addition to Stone Oak. Good location. Same ownership as well known Lion and Rose. Something like 82 beers on tap. All craft beer. So if miller lite is your drink… This is not your place. The bar tender knew her beer. I was surprised. I witnessed her point people on the right direction based on their taste. The bar was only open two days but clean. Nice patio. What else do you want!!! I’m very glad to have a good craft beer room in SA. Now they need to open their eyes and start putting some awesome New Mexico craft beer on tap. I would die and be in heaven if they had Marble or La Cumbre IPA.
