We went for the first time today and we were not disappointed. The sausages were fresh and flavorful. We tried the sample plate so we could try them all! Even better were the people, the owners are very sweet and personable. In the half hour we were there, it felt like Cheers, with all the repeat customers, some even talking about fond memories of Germany. Dresden was the full experience, we can’t wait to go back.

Stopped by at 7:20pm to pickup dinner for my son, an avid sausage lover, only to be very disappointed when the doors were locked, the chairs were put up on the tables and the sign was lit to closed. However, the hours clearly state they are open 11:00am — 7:30pm Tuesday — Friday. I could understand that they may not have wanted to sit a party for dine in at that time(which I clearly wasn’t), but they also advertise that they sell fresh sausages to take home to cook(which I could’ve been)! Needless to say, although I have read numerous great reviews about this establishment(on Unilocal) and have mentioned it to several friends that live in the neighborhood(we get together quite frequently for dinner and they are sausage lovers), I don’t think we will attempt to try again since it wasn’t closed early for an emergency as everything was neat n tidy and note posted anywhere; however, it was just for the heck of it! If that’s the way you run your business, why even post hours?

First I don’t like ordering at a counter and really don’t like being served on paper plates, I found the food bland. I don’t do spicey but I like savory flavorful food. The potatoes Salad was disappointing. I was with my German friend, we won’t be hack.

Came in here on a Saturday afternoon. Looked at the menu and realized this place specializes in german sausages as that was pretty much the only thing on the menu. Decided to order the 5 sausage sampler plate with a side of pickle salad and pasta salad. The pickle salad was soaked too much and I didn’t like it. Just wasn’t for me. The pasta salad was excellent though. The sausage samplers were also very good. I don’t remember what I had, but I liked all of them. Even if you dipped it in sauce, you could still taste the sausage. My friend liked the ketchup with curry powder. After we were finished with our meal, we talked to the owners about the curry powder ketchup and he gave us a free sample of currywurst to taste the difference. Even though the sausage is dipped in currypowder and ketchup, you can still taste the sausage strongly. I’ve been to Germany and I can say that the sausages here are of a very high quality. I’ll definitely stop by here again.

This place is fantastic. First time visit I had the sausage sample plate with the home maid mustard and Sauerkraut. I don’t even like sauerkraut but I guess I do now, it was very good! I wish I lived here so I could eat there all the time. Hope to visit again and try something else. I feel like they don’t do anything just average here. Outstanding food and friendly service.

Two of the best things about this place that go beyond the 5 stars for great German food in most of the reviews 1) HEALTHIESTSAUSAGEINTHECITY, 2) DIVERSIFIEDMENU and the Pork Street Tacos ROCK! My wife and I have been eating there at least twice a month since shortly after it opened. Healthy Sausage… Yes, Healthy Sausage. this is site cooked pork shoulder, not the«scraps» That does two things. It tastes better, like Steak vs hamburger, and the signs are posted and the numbers escape me but it has like 30% less fat than what you will find elsewhere. Also, if you have that person in your group that does not feel like a mini wurstfest, they have opened up their menu to some other non-German items. My personal favorite: The Street Tacos are great. They use the same great site-cooked pork shoulder as the base ingredient and it is all about the meat. They are one of my favorite foods and these are the equal of the of the top Mx restaurants in this city.

I ordered currywurst, which I had not had since 1990 in Germany. It was a mild sausage sliced and dressed with curry ketchup. The pommes frites were mildly seasoned crinkle-cut fries. The plate came with a wheat roll. Good crust and soft interior. The sauerkraut was on point and I liked the black eyed pea salad. They are BYOB and the pizzeria next door has three large cases of bottled and canned beers of every variety. So I had a Schneider Weisse hefeweizen to go with the gasthaus food experience. A German pop station was streaming from the internet. Stop by for very reasonably priced food and brush up on your German comprehension! Cheers to this husband and wife team!

This place is truly a gem. It is difficult to find good, unique and healthy options in San Antonio. What attracted me most about this place is that they don’t use preservatives or fillers. They have a variety of gluten free options, and use high quality ingredients. I didn’t really know I liked German food until I visited this place, and now I am in love. SERVICE Friendly and knowledgeable. I wasn’t sure what to order the first time I came in, and the gal behind the counter was able to thoroughly explain all the options and how the food is prepared to help me pick the best one! She remembered me the next time I came in, too, which I thought was really nice. Good service is hard to come by these days, but there is no shortage of it at Dresden. You can tell they value their customers. FOOD The Czech sausage is life changing.(Haha, yes– that good). High quality meat, and perfectly seasoned. You can get 2 sausages on fresh baked bread for $ 6 between 2−5pm. They have other sausage options to suit any taste buds. I can only eat one, so have been getting the second one to go. Curry ketchup is delicious and all of the sides are great(pasta salad, black eyed peas, mashed potatoes, etc). MENU The menu is small, but this is not a negative in my opinion. So many restaurants try to do so many different dishes that the result is mediocre. Everything I have had at Dresden Café so far has been fantastic, which I would take over a big menu any day of the week. Highly recommend! Perfect for lunch with coworkers or a casual dinner.

I was a bit alarmed when a fistful of free beer, nay, free GOOD beer was thrust my way with an encouraging grunt by the owner of this fine establishment. His mother breezed past behind him and elbowed him as if to remind him of his manners. It was very sweet to watch this exchange. He welcomed my husband and I with few words about anything but the delicious, amazing, super fresh food. We had the chicken special which had red cabbage and a cinnamon spice flavor in the gravy, very nice indeed. I had the brat sandwich and another beer, and pretty much declared the place a holy mecca to the messiah of sausage… I’ll eat there again. I’d suggest you do the same.

We ordered bangers and mash, Argentina sandwich, kraut slaw, and purple cabbage. Bangers and mash were good, but not out of this world. Argentina sandwich was incredible. I ended up ordering a second one and probably could have put away a third. Kraut slaw and purple cabbage were good. Small menu focused on sausage, so take that into account when coming. Definitely a place that will make our rotation of regular places.

Heavenly. Just heavenly! If I’m ever in the area again, I am definitely coming back! When we mentioned it was our first time they were very helpful to point out what customer favorites were. They even let us taste the some of the sausage and the mashed potatoes with their gravy for the day. We eventually ordered bangers and mash, Argentina sandwich, and kraut slaw. Both were AMAZINGLY delicious! So good, these we ordered a pound of Czech sausage raw to take home and two containers of the slaw as well. The sausage was just the right amount of spicy with the compliments of the kraut slaw. Seriously, amazing! Another great thing about this place is that they have complimentary Mac and cheese and Capri Sun for little ones(my daughter is just about 2)!

WHATWEORDERED: Argentina(RECOMMEND!), Deutsche Platte(recommend!) German food is not something you can just find everywhere, especially in SA, and finding this place on Unilocal with fantastic reviews excited my friends and I soooo much! After finishing our test, we decided to head out and finally try the restaurant. CUSTOMERSERVICE: Excellent! The staff is so incredibly friendly, and because the restaurant is small, it has a wonderful homey feel to it. They were very eager to explain the menu, their specials, and what to recommend to us based on what we were looking for. Since it was our first time, they were so kind to bring us samplers of all of their sausage flavors! FOOD: SAUSAGEFLAVORS: Czech(spiciest, tastiest, my favorite), Valencia(mildly spicy), Hungarian(mildly spicy), Bratwurst(mild and my second favorite), Fresh Garlic(mild). So my friends ordered the ARGENTINA and absolutely loved their food: this is the sandwich which they had with Czech sausage(can choose any sausage) along with house made chimicurri and pickled red onion and tomato. I ordered the DEUTSCHEPLATTE which came with Bratwurst sausage, warm fermented sauerkraut, and mashed potatoes. The Bratwurst sausage was delicious and this is a plate you should order if you love sauerkraut — it was juicy and plentiful. The mashed potatoes was my least favorite part though — the texture just wasn’t right for me and it was lacking flavor, but I like a creamier mashed potatoes side. SUGGESTION: Dip the sausage in the curry ketchup! So delicious! I want a bottle to go! Their other sauces are beer-brat mustard and habanero mustard. All of their sauces are available for sell. They also have amazing salads you can pair with each plate. OTHER: This place has daily specials which I’ve included an attached photo of what to expect each day! And you can buy the sausage to go and they explain how to prepare and cook it well and include instructions! NEXTTIME: I will definitely be back! It’s kind of far where I live which is the medical center but I will drive if it means getting good food. I plan on getting the Currywurst + Baked Crinkle Fries, Cottage Pie Plate, or Chicken Plate!

Came here for lunch on a Friday with some friends to celebrate being done with our test(woohoo!) and the food definitely lifted my spirits after a LONG week. Nothing makes me happier than taking the first bite of my food and finding that sweet sweet satisfaction and excitement of knowing this meal is about to be AMAZING. My mood can change in a second depending on how much I like my food(you don’t wanna be around me after a bad meal) so needless to say, I was in completely bliss after eating here. Since It was our first time here, and because this restaurant has phenomenal customer service, they offered to let us try a sampler of all their sausage flavors for free! These included the Czech(spicy), Valencia(mildly spicy), Hungarian(mildly spicy), bratwurst(mild), and fresh garlic(mild). They cut out one piece of each flavor for each of us on the table so that we could decide what to order… how amazing is that?! My favorite was the Czech and a close second was the bratwurst, a classic. Since it was my first time and I loved the Czech sausage, I decided to just go with the daily special, the Argentina + side for $ 7.50. It’s a pretty sweet deal because not only was the meal delicious, it was also pretty filling for lunch. For the side you can choose something lighter like one of their housemade refreshing salads or any of the other sides listed on the menu. I was initially going to order the mashed potatoes as my side(how can one go wrong with potatoes, am I right), however the lady there made a great point. The mashed potatoes taste like any other mashed potatoes, it’s not really anything unique, and the whole point of trying this place was to try something I can’t get at other restaurants. So she talked me into trying one of their salads. Now this isn’t some kale or spinach dominated salad that makes you question why you even decided to eat out. These are legit unique«salads»: german pasta salad, cucumber salad, red cabbage salad, black eyed peas salad, or kraut salad. I ordered the cucumber salad, which I’ll talk about in a bit, but first Let’s talk about the Argentina, because you really NEED to try it. THEARGENTINA: Czech sausage on a perfectly baked and crispy roll, with chimichurri, pickled red onions, and tomato. I wouldn’t change anything about this. All the flavors exist in such harmony, the red onions are pickled to perfection, and the sausage is so flavorful. Try it with any of the unique condiments on the side: curry ketchup, habanero mustard, or brat beer mustard. Don’t be afraid of the habanero mustard when you try it by itself-it is extremely potent when tasted alone; however it’s perfect when spread on the sandwich. You can get the Argentina spicy with Czech sausage, which I highly recommend, or mild with a different sausage(not sure which one). GERMANCUCUMBERSALAD: I know what you’re thinking. What is the big deal about some sliced up cucumbers right? WRONG. This salad is so light, flavorful, lemony, and refreshing. The lady who works here suggested it and I was skeptical at first. But I love her for introducing me to this. It has sliced cucumber, red onions, chopped red bell peppers, dill, and special house dressing. The dressing is so light, unlike ranch of Cesar, you almost don’t even notice it exists except for the refreshing flavor it brings. I honestly don’t know what’s in the dressing but I need to find out. If you haven’t caught on by now, this place is pretty freaking great. So stop reading this review and EATHERE:)

I created a Unilocal account just to give this place the publicity it deserves. You can tell the owner is a great guy — he remembered my friends coming in a year ago and even which table they were sitting at. The sausages were great — we got the Czech and garlic classic sandwiches(2 for $ 6!). The free beer was also delicious! I’ll definitely be coming back to try more.

Omg their sausages are so good!!! You don’t even need to fry it to make it good. I had their brawurst sausage, cucumber salad and potato salad. Everything tastes so good, service was awesome as well. I wasn’t sure which sausage to get, and the girl offered me some samples to try out before making decision. I’m glad I stopped by this place on my business trip, and hopefully will return soon!

Good place! From out of town on business and had to try it because of the reviews. Got the bratwurst Argentina style and the Czech sausage with fries. I was disappointed they didn’t have schnitzel because that’s what I was looking forward to! It was a Saturday and they only serve it on Tuesday and Wednesday or something. I love how their fries are seasones and the curry ketchup and habanero mustard are great condiments. Everything was tasty, which you should expect from great food.

Great food, great prices, and owners who care about providing the freshest food to their customers. Nicholas and Hope do a great job providing freshly made sausage. We need to support local businesses like this. And who else offers free beer in the evening to go with your top notch German fare. The cucumber salad was fresh and well season. The red cabbage sauerkraut was also excellent. Not as much selection here as Bavarian Brauhaus, but a great place to stop for a quick lunch or dinner. It’s also BYOB so bring your favorite halbtrocken.

Blown away at how delicious the food is here. Nicholas & Hope really have a special place with all the good things they serve. And their customer service is top notch! The specials such as 2 sandwiches for 6 bucks is a steal and for me, eating one is enough. When my partner in crime & I walked in the first time, Hope greeted us, explained their menu items, and served up samples of each of their sausages. Each was more delicious than the next and it was really hard to figure out which ones we wanted for dinner. We each went for the 2 for 6 special(I chose the garlic & Czech). I loved the garlic as the garlic was very present while the Czech was spicy but not so much as to take away from the rest of the sausage seasonings & flavor. The next visit I opted for the Valencia which had a hint of citrus flavor and went well with the noodle salad. The sides aren’t afterthoughts either. The noodle salad is filling mixed with mushrooms and goes over really well with whatever you pair it with. If you order kraut, expect to answer whether you want it warm or cold. The rotkraut is sharp but definitely well made and just as delicious as the rest of everything at DC. And if you go with the frites, be sure to try them with the curry ketchup. In addition, my partner in crime loves the free beer after 3. Offfff course…

We were in San Antonio for the day and wanted to eat somewhere that we couldn’t eat at in Houston and thanks to Unilocal,Dresden Café appeared on the list! From the moment we walked we could tell it was going to be awesome!!! We got the Czech style sausage deuttse plate and my got the Czech style sausage sandwhich Argentinian style! They were awesome with the habanero mustard! Sauerkraut was wonderful and we also enjoyed the fries with the curry ketchup! While we were waiting we were offered samples of their other sausages and free German beer samples! A new favorite beer that we hope to find in Houston. I can’t believe it’s taken me so long to post a review for Dresden Café. This place is what Unilocal’s all about: a small business run by nice people who care about quality. They’re excited to share all their hard work with us(and they should be very proud!). Other reviewers have written about the amazing quality of [everything], how they make even the mustards and curry ketchup, and BYOB nights. But I can’t help but think the overall vibe of the place — the way the owners are COLLABORATING with us to share their passion and make us happy — makes the food taste even a little bit better: they openly solicit opinions and ideas and have made several adjustments based on customer feedback. Did I already say this is the kinda place Unilocal is all about? Go show some love. I promise you’ll leave with a smile.

If you like sausage you have probably found a few places in town that make sausage just the way you like. Now, get out of your comfort zone and taste the 5 delicious styles of sausage hand made at this little jewel of a cozy dinning hole in the wall. If you are not paying attention you will drive right it. Don’t! The shop is small and immaculately clean. Also don’t expect fine china and table clothes. The focus is the food and the extremely friendly staff makes sure you are welcomed and enjoy the food. Hope let me taste all of the types of sausage and explained how almost everything is made from scratch. I ordered the Tuesday special, Jagerschnitzel with gravy, and a Czech sausage. One word, delicious! The sausage has a great texture and is cooked just right! The Jäger had a nice crust with a generous portion of gravy that was greatly appreciated. I would take a bath in the gravy if I could! Try this place! Don’t skip it!

This place is a pleasant surprise! If you haven’t been here, you need to go. I was lead here by Unilocal, but I stayed because of the food and amazing service. They are really genuinely great people who believe in good food. They prepare their sausages without the common preservatives we typical see in commercial products, namely nitrate — instead, they prepare while it’s still frozen, can you imagine that? You can rest easy knowing that the ingredients are natural and prepared fresh. I especially LOVE the czech because it’s got a nice spicy undertone to it that’s not overwhelming. They even put a twist on ketchup and mustard, but be prepared because their mustard habanero sauce is no joke! If you can’t decide on a side, you need the cucumber salad, or really any of their salad, but the cucumber one takes the cake. That subtle hint of dill and the acidity in the cucumber makes it deceivingly refreshing. All of their salads are in tiny containers, but you’ll get your fill with everything they have to offer. This is as close to homemade as it gets. All I can say is the best time to go is after 3, don’t forget your IDs at home ;)

There is nothing bad I can say about this place. My boyfriend and i decided to use our groupon on our way out of san antonio to go to Austin. When I walked in the restaurant with my boyfriend, we were greeted by 2 staff members. They gave us the rundown of their business: fresh ingredients, no preservatives, etc. They also gave us 5 samples of each of their sausages to get a feel as to what sausage we wanted on our sandwich. I fell in love with the their spiciest sausage which was more like a low medium kind of spicy. I glanced over their menu to see the options for the type of sandwich I would want, and I quickly picked the Argentina style sandwich. I loove chimichurri sauce and onions, so naturally I would get that sandwich. Our sandwiches also came with a side of our choice that was displayed in the display case. Since I absolutely love cucumber salad, I chose that side. The sandwiches came out promptly, and my bf and I thoroughly enjoyed our meal. You can tell this sausage was the real deal. All the flavor profiles played well on my palate, and the cucumber salad was light and refreshing. If this place wasn’t on the other side of town, I would definitely frequent this place more.
