Elms Bake Shop

Every time I go to San Antonio, I try to find time to stop at this sweet little bakery. They make the best cinnamon rolls I have ever eaten in my entire life and the staff is really friendly. Last weekend I was driving in from Austin and called to ask what time they closed for the day. They told me that they had already closed, but asked what I needed and offered to stay open if I could get there quickly. We were too far away to make it work, but I was so impressed by their service. This is the type of business that you feel good supporting.

Elms Bake Shoppe is about as cool as the elaborate Disney cake that graces the front room of this little store. I was lured in by the sign in the window that said fudge. When I didn’t see it amid the cookies, cinnamon rolls and cupcakes in the front room, I asked the lady about it and she said it was in the back (where they apparently keep all the good stuff). She got me a little slice to sample while I browsed through cake books in the lobby. The fudge was excellent! Apparently if you get a pound of fudge, which I didn’t, you even get a ½ pound free. Neat, especially if you want to OD on fudge.
Also, while waiting, I noticed a caramel apple. I asked the lady if she made them, which she said she did… with fudge instead of caramel. Ah… what? Yes, please. Fudge + green apple + pecans = heaven! Mmm!
The lady who helped me was really friendly too and told me that her son really loved the apples. She was chatty while I looked around at the cakes and seemed genuinely happy to be working there, which is always a good thing.
I’m not in the market for a wedding cake, but if I was, I would definitely consider using Elms Bake Shoppe. They have great service and would probably make that special, once-​in-​a-​lifetime cake as yummy as their fudge apples. Even if it is your second or third one-​in-​a-​lifetime cake.

I still am getting compliments on my cake! They did exactly what they said. They were very accomidating and my cake was delicious! Would recommend
