TRUERATING: 3.5÷5.0 RECOMMEND: Probably any of their drinks! WHATWEORDERED: Shrimp Fritters and Smoked Mozzarella Mac ATMOSPHERE(5⁄5): First of all I have to commend this place for bringing something different to SA. This is an outdoor bar with a small kitchen with also a small place inside with a bar. The outside patio is small but comfortable with wooden tables and chairs to sit outside on a beautiful night or day, share a drink with friends, and enjoy company. There are string Christmas lights up all over the place and has a great Austin vibe going on. You order drinks and food and they’ll bring it over to you(just the food). My only complaint? There was live music when my roommate and I were there and it was incredibly loud and we felt as though we were shouting at each other at one point haha. FOOD(2.5÷5.0): My roommate and I ordered the following: –SHRIMPFRITTERS: These are TX gulf shrimp in cormel batter with green onion mayo. Honestly couldn’t taste too much of the shrimp. –SMOKEDMOZZARELLAMAC: Honestly it was just your average mac n cheese with some bread crumbles sprinkled on top. Since we were eating it easy, it actually didn’t taste too fresh. This could be my fault — I need to stop ordering mac n cheese at places unless its specialty mac n cheese. Otherwise most times it tastes like what I can make with a box from the grocery store. DRINKS(3.5÷5): What I really commend this place for is the price of the drinks! The special drinks are just $ 5 which is hard to find anywhere nowadays! –CUCUMBERMARTINI: This was a pretty good drink but I think my only complaint is that I barely tasted any of the alcohol in it. So it tasted like a good virgin cucumber martini. PARKING: You’ll have to find street parking! It is really packed on Friday and weekend nights!

Drinks are cheap and they don’t use squeeze bottle alcohol that takes years off your life. An old fashioned with Bulleitt is $ 5 — awesome! The service was snappy and friendly. Here’s what makes you feel old: The music was angry when we came. It’s dark and the menus on the wall are written in a small font. You’ll sound like your parents when you were young and they couldn’t read the menu. People smoke on the outside patio. If you’re in your twenties or you like cheap cocktails, this is your next dive bar. If your life includes brunch, Home Depot and Bed, Bath and Beyond, you’ll last one drink. I don’t have a food review, we lasted one drink. :)

Best prices on the St. Mary strip! The happy hour here kills it! They always have something gory playing on the television which I absolutely love! I feel like Dracula would totally come to this bar and hangout in a dark corner. As far as reading other reviews. The clientele that does come here can seem a little alternative but that shouldn’t stop anyone from coming here. It’s a very diverse place as far as the people go. The food is amazing and the bartenders are chill. The beer selection is all cans or bottles and they feature house cocktails and shots. Small amount of seating available inside, mostly outside seating in general. I would say this is a bar for conversation. They don’t have pool or anything. Overall this is a great neighborhood spot and it is dog friendly! Great for happy hour!

Probably one of my favorite chill bars in San Antonio. I can definitely see this place as a hit or miss for most because of the atmosphere and crowd. Do not let that fool/detract you from what Faust can offer. My first visit I was wearing a suit and bowtie… definitely the raisin in the rice sack. Funny looks? Check. Judgement? Absolutely not. Its small. Borderline very cozy to cramped. It really just depends on how big the crowd is. Out of all of my visits I have maybe felt uncomfortable once. Atmosphere is bizarrely charming. Service is always top notch. Very warm and welcoming. I have never seen a bartender look rushed or act snooty here. The beer menu is solid. The cocktails are kind of craft-lite. Not wowing but definitely tasty with some subtle complexity. Price is FANTASTIC. They always have desirable specials going. If you are not picky, the $ 5 combos are always solid. I really dig the sarsaparilla whiskey they have every so often(kinda wish they would have it all the time). Bathrooms can be sketchy. Parking can be a bitch. It is a pain in the ass to order drinks when folks decide to camp the middle of the bar(hint: always go to the left if said situation is in effect). Also please dont be that ass hat that sits in the middle of the bar. Go to the side or outside… They recently have been having some live music here which can be quite enjoyable. The food window is quite tasty. Semi expensive for the fare, but definitely decadent. *Remember to tip the entry/door guy too. If he has a bucket out there, at least try and help him fill it with a buck or two.*

I was really looking forward to trying this place… the drinks look really great. Unfortunately we never got to try the drinks because we felt so uncomfortable. We walked into the smoky patio area and got some stares from the punk-wannabe patrons. I guess showing up to happy hour in nice work clothes is frowned at a joint like this. We were kinda confused by the setup so we went to the front door… oops, that’s a guitar shop with poor signage. Then we found the back entrance. it was so dark I couldn’t even read the menu… think the bar at Hotel Havana but seedy. There were 4 guests and a bartender, who glanced at us and then proceeded to ignore us for the next several minutes until we left, realizing this was clearly not for us.

The drinks here are reasonably priced and always tasty. It’s our go-to spot if we can’t think of any other bar to go to after grabbing dinner. Our only complaint is the bartenders can be a little rude sometimes. I guess that’s the price we pay for the decently priced drinks.

Awesome bartender, super friendly and welcoming and we loved the dive bar aspect. It’s nice to find a good«hole in the wall» in san antonio! Cheap drinks good fun!

This is my kind of place! We went to Candlelight for a function we regularly attend and as kismet would have it we parked on Woodlawn because our usual parking spot was full. As we walked towards St. Mary’s I saw the sign for Faust Tavern. I said to my wife, «Now with a name like that it’s got to be a cool place». We go on to our function at the coffeehouse, and of course make our way back to our car. As we walk by Faust I can hear the song ‘Halloween’ by Dead Kennedys playing. I said to my darling, «Yes this is definitely my kind of bar. Faust for a name AND Dead Kennedys playing this is like a sign(from below).» So my wife says to me, «do you want a nightcap?» Well she didn’t have to ask me twice we went on in! They have a nice patio area with a window for ordering bar munchies from a kitchen that I assume is technically a different enterprise, but they have made it a team effort. I wasn’t hungry so I didn’t pay much attention to it, I’ll definitely give it the look over on my next visit. We walk in and it isn’t a huge bar, but with the name of Faust you can bet that the atmosphere was in line with this time of year. Ouja boards and pictures of Dracula adorned the wall. Their lineup of beers is impressive, but I saw Maker’s and I was feeling one of those on the rocks. My sweetie wanted to Southern cocktail which was their take on a Planter’s punch. Bartenders there are friendly, quick, and observant. I asked one of them how long that they have been there and he replied«2 years, but we don’t advertise, people find out about us by word of mouth»(and obviously Unilocal because it isn’t like I’m the first to review). So we enjoy our drinks and I’m enjoying the music that they are playing. The punk rock didn’t stop with Dead Kennedys. I heard a Minor Threat song and one by Roger Miret and the Disasters. Their prices are damn good too, $ 5 each for both of our drinks and one was a specialty cocktail, and the other a call. They weren’t stingy with the pours either. We finished our nightcap and made our way to the car. So I have a new favorite bar in San Antonio, one that I feel like I could become a regular.

What a dive! This place has some CHEAP beers! I gotta say, I think this place has the cheapest beers and drinks on the St. Mary’s Strip! $ 2 beers for happy hour! $ 2 wells! The place has a younger crowd that seems to be here on business– drinking cheap beers. They blast the rock music, and have all kinds of weird, eclectic décor that seems to focus on the mysterious and demonic. Strange cigar store indians behind the bar peer at you, and seem to taunt you into having more beers in order to make sense of the strangeness that is Faust. They have a healthy selection of cheap beers, from Lone Star to PBR. The best seating is outdoors on the patio amidst all the picnic tables. They have a weird back area that seems to be for loners. I don’t quite know what happens back there. The service was fast and professional. It wasn’t exactly clean here. Many of the pots and planters seemed to have been smashed, perhaps on one of their rowdier nights. There are signs imploring you not to put your trash in the planters. Nobody seems to follow those requests. They seemed to have ditched the pizza menu in favor of a Southern down home style of cooking. I didn’t try the food though. Parking is quite a challenge here. If you park further down Woodlawn, you’ll probably find a spot. Don’t even bother looking for a spot on N St Mary’s. They do have a wide variety of strange mixed drinks, like the avocado margarita. I’d read bad things about that, so I skipped in favor of a cold Lone Star. I think I made the right choice. I’ll be back. If you can find a cheaper place on the Strip to drink, I’ll be damned.

The bar here is alright by me for sure. Drink are reasonable prices, the service is good most of the time. The music is normally great but they are loosing me with the food. I’ve given it three shots and each time have been quite let down. Maybe my hopes are too high but I love flavor and that’s something that is lacking here. I got red beans and rice, mind you they are vegan, and thoughly lacked any sort of flavor. I don’t even think they included the holy trinity, which for a New Orleans dish is a shame. I asked for hot sauce and was given a sauce that was way too sweet, I asked for a Louisiana style sauce and was told they didn’t have any. I mean really, how do you run a southern kitchen and not have Crystal or Cajun Chef? A few nights later i had the chicken wings. Worst decision ever. I might give this place another shot. But if you’re going to do southern food you better get the flavors right. And at least have a few southern hot sauces please.

Chill place overall. When my friends and I first pulled up, it looked like someone’s house. We thought Google Maps guided us to the wrong location. Once we saw some people sitting outside on benches, we felt a little better. Inside, there is real dim lighting and eclectic designs/objects on the wall. They have a wide selection of yummy shots, and mixed drinks. We had a few, and they were delicious! I did try a Pimm’s cup, and I really was not impressed. But all the others tasted great and were around $ 6.50 each. They played some great 50’s, 70’s and 80’s music. I really had a great time here, and would definitely come back again!

Wonderful ambiance, delicious craft cocktails(most $ 5!) with good liquor(not shit wells) and $ 5 beer/shot combos. I just ordered a cocktail with ginger beer and Bulleit rye bourbon among other ingredients, it’s super tasty! $ 5.50! I would be here every night if they weren’t always playing death core metal music. It’s a speakeasy vibe with death metal music? Very strange. But everything else is wonderful. Update: just ate a pulled pork sandwich and collard green sandwich from the soul food window — SOOOOGOOOOD. Crispy grilled breads with flavorful fillings and a vinegar cucumber slaw on the side for just the right pallet cleanser. Definitely a highlight!

This place is awesome! I don’t usually like so called dives but actually enjoyed this small quirky spot quite a bit. It’s located in a house like setting tucked away in a very quiet neighborhood. The outdoor patio is quite nice but be careful of the mosquitos. I tried two drinks: Moscow mule and cucumber margarita. Both were delicious! I have to say I was mostly impressed with the cucumber margarita. I don’t usually like margaritas b/c they are strong. But that cucumber margarita was deff different than what I had before. It was so refreshing and tasty! And it certainly wasn’t weak either. I’d totally get a few more of these again next time. Yum! The best part? It’s hands down the price! It was so cheap that I almost couldn’t believe it. I think mine was about 7 – 8 bucks for two drinks. Seriously?! Heard they also offered some food on the menu. I certainly don’t mind returning soon!

Pizza No More! Faust Tavern has dropped the pizza menu and gone Southern Kitchen Comfort Food. I recently discovered Faust last month and have been there a few times now. I have to say there isn’t much complain about. I was very skeptical about the new menu but I went last night with my girlfriend and her best friend, we ordered Fried Mushrooms, Sweetcorn and Shrimp Fritters, and a pulled pork sandwich. All of which came out to $ 15. All three food items were delicious in there own rite. The sweetcorn and shrimp fritters were actually spicy. The Fried Mushrooms were perfect. The pulled pork sandwich was good enough to be mentioned in the same class as Station Café. Did I mention that this place is a bar? Well it is. Not only is it a bar, but it’s probably the most reasonably priced bar on the St. Mary’s Strip. I got a Lone Star and a shot of Fernet for $ 5. Ordered two more beers for my guest, it all came out to $ 10. They also have $ 5 house cocktails. The bar is called Faust, so there are drinks named after Voltaire and Joan of Arc. Both are great cocktails by the way. The atmosphere is very chill and relaxed. I don’t get the feeling that they cater to a «scene» but it usually a younger crowd. This definitely not the type of place that smells like sweat, rum, and perfume. So if you’re into a club scene keep heading down the road. The outdoor seating area is bigger than the inside but that’s fine with me.

What a great, unique addition to the N. St Mary’s strip! You walk onto a small outdoor patio with picnic tables & there was a DJ — with turntables, not a MacBook — spinning some rock jams. Walk into the small, dimly lit tavern-esque bar. Service was friendly & pretty quick considering how many folks were sitting at the bar(I got the feeling they’re neighborhood dwellers). Two drinks(Jameson, ginger ale & lime) were only $ 7! The crowd is mainly 20s &30s with a few scattered 40s. The fashion trend seems to be skinny jeans, black t-shirts, beanies, various studded belts & bracelets, & lots of facial hair. I didn’t try the food, but Faust is a great place to stop & have a drink or two!

Service 5. Stars. Excellent. Attentive, knowledgeable staff. Avocado Margarita: disastrous. Oh my gato. Nothing like the description. Tastes like peas… baby food peas… Can I get some bacon at least? Great beer selection but not sure if I’d come back for the avocado margarita

Faust is my neighborhood tavern. Yeah, hipsters abound, BUT everyone is always welcome at Faust. We all know hipsters can be a bit aloof, but the staff here is friendly to everyone, regardless of mustache status. It seems Faust’s management takes care to screen out applicants with an inability to suspend their trademark hipster detachment and snarkiness. But the proof’s in the puddin, so I brought a very mixed bunch of my co-twerkers over there for a few drinks and a bite to eat. Our party consisted of a hodgepodge of old folks, nerds, conservative types – plenty of non-hipsters, and everyone was treated equally. We stayed for quite some time, and actually kinda took over the joint. A dude with huge spikes sticking out of his jacket chatted with us for a bit – it was pretty cool. Anyway, if you don’t already know from the other reviews, Faust is a unique and savvy addition to the strip. They specialize in brandy, cognacs, and $ 2 Lone Star, and they do a bit of mixology as well. You can also get cheap«bro shots» and microbrews in bottles. No taps. As for food, they serve a pretty decent slice of pie. Definitely perfect after several drinks. And they do it until 4am. Not bad. Taco truck down the street used to be the only late-night option around here. Not so any more, ese! And the menu is expanding. I dig the vegan chili, which is offered on select nights. Fried mushrooms and buffalo wings have also been making appearances on the chalk board lately. So get some friends together and go check it out. And come say hello, cuz chances are I’ll be at the bar drinking a Lone Star.

It’s Sunday night and me and my friend are hungry… specifically for pizza. It’s like 11 at night and we’re determined to find pizza some way, some how. We find this place on Unilocal that closes at 3am so we decide to make the trip despite our 8am class the next morning smh. When we pull up to Faust we weighed our options before we got out. I was giving the neighborhood some serious side eye action because it was clear we weren’t in the UTSA area anymore. We saw some stray cats around and it being a Sunday night, there weren’t a lot of people nearby so I was a little worried but we went in anyway. We walked up the steps and there were a few people sitting out where the benches under the decorative lights. Inside the friendly bartenders made me a long island as we waited for our pizza. You can buy the pizzas by the slice but we just got a whole pizza that came out to be about 13 dollars I believe. This pizza had to be the CHEEZIEST pizza I’ve had, the pictures certainly do not do it any justice. Plus is was as good as it looked, the slices we couldn’t finish we took home and tasted just as great reheated. I was super happy I tried this place out, I’ve been looking for a late night place in San Antonio that offers food and a chill/comforatable environment. If you want to try a place that isn’t like a clubby, bar type scene then you can really appreciate Faust Tavern. It’s great for your group of friends when you want to go out but aren’t really feeling up to putting on heels and makeup.

Here’s a little story about my embarrassing first visit to Faust. I fell. I nearly fell right into the arms of the ID checker. Then I recovered, and fell again three steps later. It’s a dangerous journey into Faust, y’all. But, seriously. There are cobblestones. Once I regained my composure and made it safely to first picnic table I could stumble to, I was happy to be there. I hope they’ll have me back. Twinkle lights are streamed across the outdoor«beer garden» type area creating a really romantic yet casual vibe. Just saunter on over to the tiny window and order your delicious pizza by the slice. Since it was my first time I wanted to try two different varieties, but in the future, one slice is definitely enough. In addition to the regular varieties, it looks like they typically have a special. That night it was a white variety, but they were already sold out, so it must’ve been good. Pizza comes out piping hot, with a sturdy crust and bubbling cheese. That particular night, we weren’t interested in drinking anymore(remember the falling debacle?) so I was delighted that you can get iced water from the pizza window, but if you are interested in other beverages, they have a bar inside. I’ve been dying for a better late night food option than that sad excuse for a pizzeria near White Rabbit, and Faust certainly fits the bill!
