It was a very awkward experience even by Laredo standards. The service was a bit forced. The place lacks that traditional Mexican restaurant feel. Almost like an «instant mex restaurant kit», just add water. As for the food, it is pretty tasty but don’t expect the traditional festival/nightclub gorditas, you know the ones dripping in grease, the ones that you crave after 8 beers. The ones that require 2 hands, a bib, a serving spoon, half a roll of the blue shop towels and some times a quart of that amazing green salsa in a squeeze bottle. You won’t find those gorditas at gorditas Dona tota. These are pretty thin, simple no complexity to them at all. But they are tasty. You only need like 8 of them to fill up. Oh and they offer prepackaged rice or Fideo… don’t get the rice. I don’t think I want to go back for the Fideo. But the do have squeeze bottles.

I walked into the restaurant and the first thing I noticed was the weird smell. That should have told me something. But, we ate the food and I was expecting something good! It was not good, the gorditas were very small and dry. The meats all tasted the same and were not tasty at all. The only thing that was ok, were the beans. I was very sad about my experience at this restaurant, but at least I tried it.

I was in the mood for gorditas but didnt know where to find some. Decided to try this place. Had the picadillo, barbacoa and bean and cheese gordita with the fideo. It was delicious. Picadillo and bean and cheese were the best. If you have room, try the gordita deserts! The strawberry and chocolate crunch was yummy. The restaurant was pretty busy and it was clean and cool inside. Brought friends along and they enjoyed it as well.

Poor service. I arrived at 2:40 pm, waited on the counter to make an order and they told me they couldn’t take my order because it was going to be more than an hour wait. What kind of restaurant does this on a Sunday afternoon? I’m very disappointed.

Doña Tota is by far my favorite place to go to when I’m in San Antonio. The Panela and Picadillo gorditas are the best! You definitely need to try them!!! The best part about the gorditas is they aren’t all greasy and full of oil… These are my favoritest gorditas ever!!! Try them all!!!

From great to ok and expensive, this place used to be great. We live in Austin and everytime we went to San Antonio we had to stop here to buy gorditas, but the last few times we noticed the quality was not as good as before, to top it off the last time we were there the price had significantly increased. No wonder the place was empty, believe me I had never seen this place empty before. We basically walked out the door without gorditas, and ate somewhere else.

I really enjoy Dona Totas! The Carne Deshebrada, the Chicharron en salsa verde and the bean and cheese are so delicious! The fideo is worth a try, but the rice always seems to be a little bit on the dry and salty side.

This place used to be great but lately they seem like cheap sellouts. the first change I noticed was about year ago when the thickness of the gorditas, they went drastically from real gorditas to a literally transparent piece of old tortilla. today more changed… They are WAY smaller and have like a spoonful of filling. The price also went up significantly. Which wouldn’t be such a big deal if the quality had remained but the worst part is that the quality has also drastically worsened. The mole is insipid, so is the masa. The rice & beans are decent. We spoke to a worker who kindly offered a couple of extras & explained they have new portions standards as of 3 weeks ago. I am very disappointed although thankful he was generous… However I doubt his action can continue under the new rules, basically everyone would wind up overpaying & then complaining & getting free stuff which I suspect would not go over well for anyone. Considering that there probably aren’t many other decent gordita places around here & the workers were kind i am leaving it with 2 stars.

Food was okay. A bit of a long wait but I hear they are hiring staff to keep up with demand so I guess we’ll try again

Saw a GORDITA sign when driving by and had to check it out. The parking lot was full, always a good sign. The restaurant was busy, the line moved fast, tables turned over quickly and the food was good. I don’t have to wait for a festival anymore!

Service had been getting better since they started hiring responsible workers. They’re back to slow, awful service– kids with no concept of efficiency, ugh. Hire better employees, please. Or at least redirect your Thursday night crew to work.

I love this place. The gorditas are amazing. Giving four stars because the trash cans always seem smelly and the tables are often sticky. The to go pack is a great deal! I haven’t had one variety yet that I haven’t enjoyed. Good stuff.

Surprisingly good. Good prices, decent portions. Maybe authentic Mexico Mexican food but I really don’t know. I would like to go one day but only by air. I don’t want to chance driving in the boarder towns. Then in Mexico, I’ll go to a restaurant and try some more of these gortitas then maybe I can give a more accurate review. But none the less, very tasty.

The kitchen in this place is dirty and and I saw several employees not wash their hands after using the restroom. Yuk! Went there last week and orders two gorditas it took them 30 minutes! Will not be going there again.

Today we came here for lunch. The service was slow and we waited almost 15 minutes in line and there were only two people ahead of us. We finally ordered and went to find a table and couldn’t find a single clean empty table. There were about 6 empty tables, and every single one of them was filthy. There was food on the floor, and no one seemed to be concerned. When we were done paying my husband asked the guy who took our order to have someone clean a table and it took almost 10 more minutes to get the table cleaned. We have learned only to order gorditas from here. Their fideo and sopita is terrible. Neither has any flavor and it’s just a waste of money. I will continue to get their gorditas, but will probably take them to go.

Food is great but this place is dirty as heck. One of the employees took a smoke break and got to work without washing her hands. To top it off she began to sweep with her gloves on and quickly turned around to prepare food. The utensil and soda area was dirty. Many tables with trash on top… Am not coming to this place after business hours. When the boss isn’t around the mice will play.

Since a great percentage of your clients speaks spanish, it would be nice if the employees tried harder to speak Spanish.

Craving Mexican food but not really looking for tacos? Then this place is what you are looking for. The gorditas are delicious! There are many fillings to choose from but I recommend the supreme.
