The puffy tacos are really good! Tasted the shredded chicken, chicken fajita and beef fajita. Was not disappointed with any of them. These tacos had alot more flavor than another restaurant I have tried over on the SW side of San Antonio

The only reason I count give four starts is because the salsa that is given at the beginning is too spicy for my whole party’s taste. When the food came out each component was very well seasoned. When ordering you have to get their puffy tacos as it is their specialty. The enchiladas are also very well seasoned and have great sauce. The price is what you would pay of you were going to chilies or apple bees. I highly recommend eating at this restaurant if you are in the San Antonio area.

I had been searching for a tasty fish taco that would satiate my craving and this place took care of it. I tried the puffy fish taco and the regular corn tortilla fish taco and I was impressed with the simplicity and tastiness of each taco. The chipotle mayo that accompanied them completed my experience. I also asked for a spicier salsa and the salsa verde was great and with the right amount of kick. I was impressed and will go back.

One of the best chicken verde enchiladas I’ve ever had! I’m not big on beans either the the refried beans were delicious. My daughter even ate the food, which is surprising since she doesn’t usually care of Mexican food. Waitress was amazing checking up on us constantly and refilling our waters. I’ll be coming back.

I LOVE puffy tacos! So when I saw a place with puffy tacos in their name I figured they would have the best… I was disappointed. I had the picadillo beef tacos. They weren’t really anything special. The salsa was over processed, looked like tomato sauce, and was just hotish, not flavorful. The tortilla chips were to fat and hard. Sorry I really wanted to like this place because they were so nice!!!

On a recent trip to San Antonio, my family and I met an extremely nice and friendly family at a local restaurant. Toward the end of our encounter, the husband mentioned that the family had a local restaurant that we should check out the following day for lunch. Because we enjoy supporting local businesses and good people, we drove out of the way to eat at Henry’s Puffy Tacos the following day, We were a little skeptical of the unfamiliar concept of puffy tacos, but we were eager to sample the local cuisine. My husband and I both ordered the puffy tacos. They were fabulous! I felt like I was eating a taco wrapped in a thin tamale. I was perfectly pleased with my choice of chicken and beef tacos until I tasted my husband’s fajita steak taco. The steak was phenomenal. The only reason I didn’t order it myself is because the menu states that it is spicy. I’m very sensitive to spicy foods, and this meat wasn’t spicy at all. Oh, I’m still thinking about how wonderful it was. The only negative is how heavy the food is. I can’t imagine eating here regularly with buying bigger pants. Well, we are certainly sad that we can’t find these puffy tacos in our hometown and would definitely pay Henry’s another visit on a return trip.

Somebody told me to try the puffy tacos while in SA and what better place than a restaurant with«puffy taco» in the name? It’s a true Tex Mex type of establishment with what seemed to be a good following for lunch. I thought the puffy tacos were yummy and the service was good too. The chips and salsa were just«ok» and unfortunately I didn’t get to try the margarita.

What I Ordered: Beef Puffy Tacos — should try once in your lifetime. I’m going to preface this review by saying I’ve never had puffy tacos before so I do not know what is a good puffy taco. First of all, I like the uniqueness of a puffy taco not following the usual corn or flour tortilla. It’s definitely something that needs to be tried once. The shell is crunchy with pockets of air and I actually really liked it but what failed the taco for me was the meat and salsa. The beef was dry, dry and the red salsa was tasteless and watery. The taco also doesn’t stay together due to the salsa and tomatoes making the shell soggy and soon it kinda all falls apart. So overall, this puffy taco could be made much better if the filling was improved!

I was really excited to try the original puffy tacos… I was underwhelmed. They tasted just so so and you have to pay extra for cheese. The chips were too hard and the salsa too hot and boring. Our server also was just so so. I should have just went door to taco cabana

San Antonio: I owe you a deep, heartfelt, profound«lo siento». For the better part of my time living here in SAT, I have not visited Henry’s(and for that matter, neither has my wife). Mea culpa for not only not getting my heinie to Henry’s sooner but also for dissing SAT for the vast number of Mexican/Tex-Mex places. I’m sure that locals have a favorite. Well… with the wife wanting tacos last night, she was thinking a fast food chain who shall remain nameless, but it does ring a bell. Anyway, was Unilocaling a place when the bell went off in my mind: HENRY’S! So…we traipsed over to Henry’s, and not surprisingly, found it quite busy, even for a Thursday(and the Spurs played later, so no worries about having your beloved Spurs on a TV for us to jinx). Only a five minute wait for a table. Promptly seated and got drinks. Explained to our wonderful waitress that wife is allergic to cil… that nasty herb. So, carne guisada was the recommendation and so carne guisada puffys for her and for me. Plus their legendary(so I had heard and read) Enchurrrito. Enjoyed chips and salsa(at least I enjoyed the salsa) while waiting. Everything came out piping hot, fresh, and… OH…MY…(Takei)…that Enchurrito was GINORMOUS! Even me, a man of semi-large appetite, DIDNOTFINISH my Enchurrito! The puffys were light, flavorful, and just sheer HEAVEN! The Enchurrito was PACKED with tender, juicy, excellently seasoned beef, onions, green peppers, and covered with this absolutely delicious enchilada sauce. I have NEVER… EVER…had anything that good since Monday at Wiseguysl I promised her that we would be back for a margarita, for if the puffys are *THAT* good, then the margs must be even better. We left happy, full(stuffed like the Enchurrito), and with the satisfaction that we know that Henry’s will continue to please San Antonians for years to come. Service was FANTASTIC, knowing that it was our very first visit and that they were indeed busy. So…I get on bended knee begging SAT for forgiveness for the years of putting down the humble taco. Mysa/E-N: You ARENOT permitted to quote this or any of my reviews in any manner of mysa/E-N *UNLESS, IFANDWHEN* you reinstate my ability to post on the blogs! If my review is used on mysa/E-N, then you WILL be sued!

Good… probably not good for you. Puffy taco tends to fall apart before you finish it so keep your fork nearby.

Few restaurants have lunch menus these days, Henry’s has one of the best. You can mix and match two or three items – tacos, chalupas, enchiladas, whatever you’re in the mood for. Plus, they have a really tasty chicken tortilla soup and salad if you want something on the light side. Thick crispy chips and salsa come with your meal along with hot tortillas. Today we had a really good server. I wish I remembered her name. She was super nice, got the order right, and even offered us drinks to go. My crispy taco shells today were«eh», but the food was still very good. I definitely recommend.

The stuff that legends are made of. If you are visiting San Antonio, this is a MUST for your travel itinerary. I recommend the shredded chicken puffy tacos with guacamole. And the cheese enchiladas, with rice and(refried beans.) I prefer eating at the restaurant(you can get yummy margaritas there) but my To Go order last night was fine too. Simply that best.

This was my first time having a puffed taco. I had a Picadillo and a Carne Guisada puffed taco. I enjoyed the Picadillo one a little more, the mix of meat and potatoes was a little more flavorful. The tacos were good but I must say I like street tacos way too much to compare to the puffy taco. My group also had the three dip appetizer, the queso dip was amazing. Definitely try this while you are here.

A puffy taco is like a little frybread made out corn flour instead of wheat with TexMex toppings. So of course I approve! It’s like a tiny, San Antonio pow wow in your mouth. They even resemble how the world’s first sandwiches likely appeared, only Henry had the good sense to cook the masa in hot oil instead of on a stick over a fire. I don’t know if the health department would approve of the latter anyhow. Also a bonus: This rather unhealthy dining choice has not caused heartburn. I was sure I’d be reaching for the antacids right now, telling my assorted ancestors that I’m coming, this is the big one, but I guess my post-meal tea, nap routine was enough to cover it. It’s either a Kwanzaa miracle, my guts have miraculously recovered from the damage Army«food» did, or Henry’s Puffy Tacos are small pieces of culinary history turned into delicious magic. I won’t be back often, because this isn’t health food, but I will want more. Shout out to Andy, who was wicked helpful on the phone.

I ordered the carne guisada and shredded chicken puffy tacos with rice and charro beans. Fantastic! The tacos had great flavor and even better crunch. The guisada taco had good flavor and meat was tender. I Added some of the house salsa to the chicken taco and it was all worth it. The charro beans and the rice is a meal on its own. Great flavor from both. I mixed them together for a taste of my child hood.

Enjoyed this place a lot! We decided we wanted some Tex-Mex, close to home, and didn’t want to spend a lot. I drive by Henry’s every day on my way to work, so we went to check it out. It was exactly what we wanted. It wasn’t 5-star dining, it wasn’t a taco stand, it was just good old tex-mex, and we loved it. For an appetizer we had chips and queso(yum!). For dinner I had the chipotle chicken enchiladas. My boyfriend had the Tex-Mex plate, which was enchiladas with a puffy taco. Overall, we really enjoyed our dinner here. Our waiter was great and checked in for refills when we needed them.

First time here, and had a great experience. The food was good, and the service was excellent. It’s hard to find good service these days(coming from someone in the service industry for almost 10 years) and our waitress tonight was awesome. Best service I’ve had in a long time. Thank you Jadyn!

Not a lot of places where you can get really authentic San Antonio Puffy Tacos… This is one of the best! Variety here is outstanding. A lot of San Antonio restaurants only offer two or maybe three fillings… Usually picadillo(ground beef with potatoes, green peppers, plenty of spices, and more), or shredded chicken… A few places will offer fajitas in puffy tacos, but there are a lot more fillings to choose from at Henry’s. I had the Carne Guisada filling last time I was here, and it was really great! And I can say out of the ten or more times I’ve been here, the service is usually hit-or-miss… Usually pretty good, but if they’re slammed(like they sometimes are), you may not get great service. My wife and I came here in the early evening(about 3:45 pm) when they were not too busy, and we had outstanding service! Justin took care of us, and was very attentive. And he was super polite, which is pretty rare nowadays. My wife had the cheese enchilada and puffy taco plate. She absolutely loved it. My Carne Guisada puffy tacos were perfectly seasoned and hot when they arrived to the table. We almost always enjoy coming here, and this was one of our best experiences yet.

This will be my second time going here, I wasn’t too hungry this time, but my two experiences were mediocre at best, i enjoyed the friendly service but with the wide variety of Mexican cuisine in San Antonio, this doesn’t make the cut BUT so far, best puffy shells for sure, not too greasy and just right! I appreciate the service and food!

We need puffy tacos in LA! In town for work and kept hearing about it. The waitress, Alyssa(sp?), was so friendly and sweet. Had the best description of what a puffy is a puffy taco. I got the grilled shrimp puffy taco and hello food coma. I asked several questions about the beans option because can’t have lard or bacon. She inquired and found out it had bacon and let me sub it out for a salad. Nice hangout atmosphere and family friendly. Will be back! See pic

First time here. All I kept thinking about was watching those kids trying to catch him during those SA Missions baseball games. But I digress… The menu is quite extensive. In addition to what we came for, they offer enchiladas, flautas, appetizers, grilled items, salads. A full service Mexican restaurant. Full bar. TVs all around the place. Birthday parties going on in separate rooms. The puffy tacos are really good. The taco shell has a yummy homemade flavor and holds together better than some others we’ve had. We both ordered puffy shredded chicken tacos with rice and charro beans. The beans were quite flavorful, with a hint of jalapeño. A nice touch. The basic puffy tacos come with lettuce and tomato. Adding guacamole costs you $ 0.45 per taco. Cheese will cost you, too. Soft drinks are a bit pricey at $ 2.49, but they do refill them and offer you a to-go cup. The two taco plate with no extras is $ 7.99. Our bubbly server Jadyn, was just fine.

Decent food here, above average taste and selection. I was especially pleased by the borracho beans! The puffy tacos are traditionally greasy and unhealthy, so check your fabricated gluten intolerance at the door. This is one of those restaurants that has pictures of Selena on the walls, and if you don’t like Selena, then just keep moving on to Lousy-ana! Plenty of chips and salsa served, and don’t forget sopapillas at the end of the meal. Well pleased this trip.

A friend told me to try a puffy taco. He seems to know his stuff so I went where he said. I thought it would be crispy but I was wrong. If it would have been I would give it a higher rating. The chicken was good but the steak not so much. It wasn’t bad but wasn’t good. Drove 20 minutes to try it. Wouldn’t do that but if you are close it isn’t bad. Something different.

Visiting San Antonio sometimes has its perks… you get to try new restaurants! We came here on a Friday afternoon around 5:00 before the dinner rush. Having heard that puffy tacos are a pretty big deal in San Antonio, I had decided I wanted to try them. After a disappointing turn at Rosario’s downtown, we decided to try our luck again here. The food isn’t the best Mexican I have ever had. Did it satisfy the itch I had? Yes, I now know what puffy tacos are. Am I that excited about them? No… they’re greasy little food pockets for taco fillings. In my mind, I thought more Taco Bell Chalupa-esque wrapping similar to navajo fry bread. This… is not that. The guacamole was that typical processed avocado where you hardly even have chunks of it anymore, the queso was salty-velveeta esque cheese… but the service was great and I thoroughly enjoyed my fresh squeezed lemonade. My date really liked his chicken fajita plate. The cheese enchilada wasn’t anything that he would write home about.

Service is excellent. I really like the flavor their salsa. Wait staff is very friendly and attentive. They brought the chips and salsa out right away. They came right back and took my order right away. I ordered the mini-Falutas and they served them up within a few minutes. The Mini-Falutas were nice and crunchy and hot. Great all around Mexican restaurant.

I really wanted to love Henry’s. We’ve tried it several times as to-go as well as in restaurant. The calories were not worth it. I’ve tried several tacos, puffy and not puffy. I think the first time we had it, they were good. But since then, the quality is worse. Not seasoned, underwhelming. Beans and rice are boring and bland. Just disappointing all around. Sorry, we won’t be back.
