I’ve only been here once to be honest. I wasn’t impressed so to speak, however I do wanna go back. The food was pretty good. I got some kind of pork chop dish that came with German potato salad and sauerkraut. The only bad thing is it’s pretty pricey for what you get. We got a couple of alcoholic drinks and the drinks were $ 12 a piece! Kinda outrageous…

Love this place. It’s easily accessible, with lots of parking, and the staff is really nice. They have wonderful food and their drink are excellent. I always recommend people coming here is my go to spot for drinks if I’m in town.

I’m a fan of this place and I was raised by my Germany native grandmother and polish great grandmother– meaning I’m used to traditional German dishes. Their menu offers a nice blend of Texan and German dishes, and both flavors are notable in whatever you may order. The jaegerschnitzel is delightful, as close as traditional as you can get outside of Fredericksburg(when in Texas of course), hot potato salad is delicious but a little too soupy, cabbage is scrumptious. Bratwurst is decent, and their sauerkraut is to die for. Again, the dishes appear to be a Texan German fusion so don’t expect authentic German food. Their drink menu is to die for and they have an excellent selection of draft beers! This is definitely a weekend hot spot for grub and alcohol, it has a definite lull on weekdays if you’re looking for atmosphere and people. Service was great, our server was very attentive and made conversation with us.

Having now been to this Hofbrau twice over the last year or so I decided I should probably write a quick review. Both experiences were about the same. The service was pretty good. The most recent visit had the best service but that could have been because we sat outside whereas the first time we were inside. Drinks are fantastic and the appetizers tasty. I cannot speak about the actual meals but if they are like the appetizers they are going to be delicious. The décor and atmosphere is rather confusing considering the name denotes a German style experience but the restaurant is more country/western than German. The other addition to that is that the restaurant is unusually dirty. The foyer has hand towels(paper) that have blown out of the bathrooms into the foyer and not a single staff member does a thing about it. The tables are sticky and floors dirty. Other than those few issues, the experience was good.

Came in to have a quick cocktail before the movie – was ignored by staff in the bar area. Must be a color thang. Do not recommend.

I love the atmosphere and the dos a ritas are delicious! But the food is either a hit or miss. I had the pulled pork sliders and fried pickles they were very tasty. Our friends have the chicken fried steak, it had no flavor and it was very dry.

Ok… the cook officially needs to lose the sugar bowl. German potato salad and sauerkraut way too sweet… sickeningly sweet to be precise. About the only thing I’m even remotely interested in eating here is the«German» like dishes they have on the menu and they manage to ruin those dishes with sugar. Sorry but you’re off my rotation of restaurants.

I had the turkey sandwich and it was the greasiest sandwich I’ve ever had! I had to wipe my hands after each bite and the turkey had a very odd taste. It got two stars for an ok beer selection. Ambience is nice and the location is good. I will not be coming back though.

Stopped in with the wife for drinks and dinner. We sat in the lounge area which was packed during happy hour. I was concerned the service would be slow but it wasn’t an issue. The wife ordered the chicken fried ribeye and I got a burger. Both were great — there was no way the burger could be consumed without a knife & fork. We also ordered an appetizer called a «Texas spring roll» or something similar. It was actually fantastic. Overall good experience.

Service was not so great due to some national holiday called Margarita Monday!!! This left only 2 waiters with 15 tables. Food was not bad, I suggest the nachos.

Update– I recently came here with my mom for a girls night out. My mother has never been here and I had been raving about this place to her for quite a long time. When we finally got the chance to go it was pretty crowded but not too bad. We sat at the table close to the bar since it was open seating. When we sat down it took about 10 minutes to see our waitress. We had to flag her down just to order our drinks. Later on she came to our table to ask if we needed anything else we asked for water. It took another 10 minutes and I had seen her even prepare our drinks. We had to flag her down again for our water. After that she barely came to our table. I was even more annoyed when I went up to the bar to pay for our tab and leave her a tip. This is the last time I go to Hofbräu. Service is horrible and drinks are overpriced. Won’t be coming back here. Time to find another drinking place.

Happy Hour 3 – 7 M-F, and 3 – 11 on Sunday. $ 2.50 pints of Lone Star, PBR and Ziegen. Sometimes tough to sit at the bar. Usually there are seats thee though.

First time at this location with some friends of mine and I throughly enjoyed my experience. A few minor things that annoyed me a bit are as follows: We sat in the bar area that is lit up in red lighting. I found it to be annoying in that everything around me, including the food I ate and my friends looked red. My eyes had to adjust for a good while since I was in the red room of booze. You’ll see it in my Dos-a-rita pic. The original Dos-a-rita is most excellent! They have about 15 or so flavors of their margarita concoctions, but the original is my favorite. The service although good, was seriously sloooooooow. It wasn’t even a busy night either. I’m glad I ordered both my food and drink at the same time because our waiter didn’t come back for almost 20 mins to take my friends orders. I ordered a bacon pepper jack burger which was very, very good! I wish I had taken a pic, but my starvation set in and I ate that sucker like a hungry coyote before I realized I hadn’t taken one. The live music was great. I’m a fan of live music, but after a while it got so loud, that I was literally screaming at my friends instead of talking to them. Overall, it’s a great place with a good vibe. I’d rather sit outside in the big patio area instead of a red bar room.

This place felt like it had an identity crisis to me. I suppose when I think of «Hofbräu», German comes to mind. This is Texas and there is absolutely NOTHING German about this menu or décor that indicates it has any German influence, which is kind of disappointing. My friend got the chicken fried steak and I got the Pepper Jack Bacon Melt. The chicken fried steak was by far the better of the two. It tasted pretty decent and was a huge portion. The burger on the other hand was just kind of bland. Not sure what it was but it just wasn’t that good and they let it sit too long under the heat lamp so the bottom bun was completely soggy and just gross. Their drinks selection wasn’t too bad, we just got a few beers and they were alright. Service was surprisingly really slow. The waitress was nice but she either had too many tables or just wasn’t trying to get stuff done quick. Overall, I feel like there’s a lot better places to go to to grab a bite to eat. This place just seemed a bit too crowded and had an identity crisis to really want to come back for more. I recommend going somewhere else.

Went with esposa and our daughters. It was fairly busy, so we opted for a booth in the bar area. There were plenty of TVs on which to watch sports. The food menu is varied. Booze menu is heavy on the Dos-a-ritas(the house specialty). Server was friendly and attentive. Food was fresh and tasty. I had a Moscow mule(for which they have their own cutesy name) and esposa a top-shelf margarita(not on the menu). Both were very good, approaching excellent. Fun place.

The food is average. Nothing yet has amazed me. I haven’t tried anything that has brought me back. They are known for the«Original dos-a-Rita» it’s nice that they have a variety and plenty of options here. I prefer one of the drinks that has rum in it with pineapple juice. The service is a hit or miss– usually a miss. If we sit on the patio, the server is usually behind(it doesn’t matter what night you come on) I wouldn’t sit on the patio if you’re on a time crunch. Tonight, we’ve been sitting on the patio for about half an hour without any service. The waitress has walked past us 4 times without acknowledging us. My boyfriend went to the bar to get two rounds. When someone sat next to us, the same waitress told him her shift was over and that she would get him a server. That new server must think the other waitress is taking care of us– because he’s walked past us as well. Luckily, the bar isn’t too far or busy to grab a round and sit ourselves. We like to come when Small Town Habit comes to play! They are funny and very entertaining. The music makes the visit worth the crappy service, average food, and average drinks.

Great service especially at the bar!!! Drinks were here in about 1 minute… yes!!! Kids got there water in 2 minutes… that is service!!! We split the chopped steak(medium well) and it was cooked perfectly. They have beer specials daily today was Lone Star for 2.50. They have a kids menu and we get Mac and cheese. My wife always gets a Dos A Rita and you can get your Rita with anything Big Red or champagne and red bull!!! They have a small band play late in the week.

We went on a busy Thursday night and it was very crowded. They had some guy playing live music which was okay — but sorta annoying as I just wanted to talk with friends instead of having to yell over them. Of course we could’ve gone inside for that but my friends wanted patio. Service was okay, food came out really hot but I just wasn’t a fan of my plate of quesadillas. They weren’t bad, just not my favorite for taste. They have a lot of beer choices and my friends loved their special margarita type drinks.

Our server, David, was excellent. The happy hour specials are excellent. Lots of different drink options.(Especially if you’re a margarita person) My main complaint is the food. It is the weirdest mix of Mexican, German, and Texas style entrees. I ordered the chicken quesadilla and it was okay but nothing special. I only ordered it because nothing on the entrée menu looked appetizing. We ordered the quest for the table. The cheese itself was great but the chips were stale. I really don’t have any interest in going back except for happy hour.

I’ve worked at an authentic German restaurant for many years in Fredericksburg so I humbly consider myself a «connoisseur of German cuisine.» I love my little biergarten, BUT if I could drop everything and move to San Antonio to work at, take over and live at this restaurant… I WOULDDOSO! I was thoroughly impressed from the moment I walked in with the décor/ambiance, the bathrooms, the polite hostess, the outdoor patio, the big projector screen showing the Cowboys game and the easy-going Sunday afternoon vibe. I didn’t think it could get any better until Marissa came and greeted us as our server. She Rocked. Like I would have thought her parents owned the establishment and she was heir to the throne. She gave us a history of the restaurant, told us about drink specials(which there were some greatttt deals), went over her favorite menu items, and had a really, really great attitude. Marissa brought us out the most incredible Mango Margarita with Champagne in it(definitely worth the $ 12 price tag) and $ 3 Scooby Snack shots that were soooo gooood. We ordered a couple different menu items and were very impressed with the potachos, bratwurst, potato salad, and peach bread pudding. I will definitely be back here to try more things on the menu and hope to go when a live band is playing. Plate prices were cheaper than all the German places in Fredericksburg and the food was just as fresh & tasted all homemade. I’ll be back again and again and again :)
