It’s hit or miss when you come. Today we went and have to say the tortilla soup needs work, the plates where dirty, random meat in tortilla chips, and the grill chicken was very bland(Frozen). The burgers aren’t bad and the chicken fried chicken is actually good. The cookies they have up front are worth the buy. I know what to get next time I go. Ask for Morningstar if you get a chance.(Very sweet)

I loved Jims this first visit, 2nd one not so much keep reading for my 2 reviews ! #1: There’s a reason there’s more than one location because it’s delicious! I had their chicken fried chicken with yummy white gravy mashed potatoes with brown gravy all my food was flavorful and delicious they even bought bread which I did not expect it was so buttery and yummy also my husband bought some brownies on the way out and they were so yummy and tasty and chocolatey please come here you will not be disappointed. #2nd visit was a dissapointment had their«award winning tortilla soup» n salad. Soup was Not hot didn’t have chicken in it, not much flavor and bowl serving was very small. Salad was on a dirty plate. My tortilla strips were on a separate plate after eating a few I noticed what looked like a few pieces of ground turkey on the plate pretty gross. I asked for a manager was told she was busy but would come asap. About 20 hungry minutes later after my hubby took a smoke break n bathroom break waitress not manager came showing me that my meal was removed. I was so hungry I bought a chocolate chip cookie on the way out that did not dissapoint. Also for my first review I failed to mention their onion rings appetizer is actually onion strings NOT rings. While tasty definitely a rip off and mis presented.

This is a fantastic resturaunt! My wife and I go on our weekly date nights and absolutely love the romantic atmosphere and delicious food! She loves the tortilla soup but I’m more of a burger man myself. We both love that there’s no TVs, who wants the constant distraction of sports or heathens hooting and hollering when people are trying to enjoy their date?!

So good it has been appointed the title of «The official diner of the SACS Band». Dee is a recommended waitress.

I have only lived in San Antonio for a month or so and this was my first time going to a Jim’s restaurant. I absolutely loved it. I tried the Chicken Fried Steak and gravy and it was on point! The waitress was nice and it wasn’t crowded which is right up my alley. I’ll be back to try the Chocolate Cheese cake.

Couldn’t even get seated. 3 – 4 larger parties came in after and were seated before me. Offered to sit at an open counter and was refused. Then hostess immediately sat two customers at the counter when they asked, despite having come in after me. This happened immediately after I was refused seating. Apparently, they don’t want my business. Congratulations, you’ll never have it again!

I suggested Jim’s to my wife because it was close and I wanted breakfast for dinner. I feel kind of like the Nazi in The Holy Grail — I chose poorly. I ordered the Panhandler’s Breakfast: 3 pancakes, choice of meat(bacon, ham, sausage patty), and 2 eggs your way. The pancakes had a strange taste to them that I didn’t find so off putting as to not eat them but certainly strange enough to make your cock your head to one side and say«Hmm, that’s different.» The sausage patties were just mush patties, like finely textured pork, and rather bland. Then, my 2 scrambled eggs looked like something a kid might cook — flat, no fluff, and flavorless. My wife had their cheese soup and half sandwich, a BLT. The bacon was so tough she couldn’t chew it and ended up taking it out and just eating a LT sandwich. I think the only time I might go back to Jim’s is an after midnight pie and coffee run…

Typical breakfast fare, but the service is always very good. Food tends to be fresh and tasty. Pies are great, and you can get a $ 5 discount coin during the holidays when you purchase one. Kids eat free on select weekdays, which is a bonus.

Shortly before my trip home to SA, I found Jim’s on a «top breakfast chains that should be expanded nationwide!» list(probably on Buzzfeed or some similar site). I thought that might be overstating things, but I revisited with a friend and remembered how great this spot really is. Breakfast options are ample, with lunch soups, sandwiches, and salads galore, but it’s the desserts people really save room for: massive pies, multi-layer cakes, and more sugar than anyone should have in a single setting. I especially like how they incorporate region-specific specialties into their menu, like southern biscuits and gravy, marvelous migas, a truly terrific tortilla soup, and of course, breakfast tacos. But if you only get one meal here, make it the chicken fried steak. Not the best in town, but one of the best for the price. And no chain would be worth this much bragging if they didn’t have great service to back it all up. It’s a diner, and they do it all the way it was way back when.

Came for a late night meal and left super satisfied. I had the Migas plate and it came out fast and hot. I highly recommend this place, and the fact that it’s 24⁄7 is a huge plus

My wife is a huge fan of diners. I have been a fan of this restaurant since the days of the Broadway location and Parkland Park was still open. We went for breakfast and it was phenomenal. The chicken fried steak was perfectly cooked and so Were the eggs. Some diners think over cooked eggs means they’re done, but not Jim’s. The biscuits are fluffy and hot and we totally enjoyed our experience. The crowning jewel was the service. The service was friendly and neighborly. We loved it so much we took my mother and nephew a few days later. I completely recommend this location…

I love across the street so I come here all the time for my post-midnight cravings. The service is hit or miss when actually dining in, but I typically do to go orders & the staff is always friendly. Best thing about Jim’s is that there’s something to satisfy you whether you’re trying to eat a little healthy or completely pig out

I love coming here after I get off of work. Nice diner. Delicious tortilla soup. Service is terrible though. When Jacob is working he is phenomenal. Great server. However the others don’t know enough about serving to check back on their tables after a decent amount of time. Not very friendly either. Not very happy with my last visit but I’d rather nt get into detail about my experience, reason being I’m in the service industry as well. Great food, terrible service.

I just left there and the service was HORRIBLE! 1 out of 4 servers was actually working, not ours. Our waitress came to the table to only drop off our drinks and food and we never saw her after. Our drinks were already low when she dropped off our food and she even said she’ll bring us more. Never saw her again till we had to pay. Had another waitress ring us up and out of no where, our waitress magically appeared when we had to tip. She said, «thank you,» but realized we haven’t tipped yet and had the audacity to say, «oh never mind.» I use to serve tables so I left a couple dollars. I will never go there again though.

Discovered this gem of a diner by accident. Homestyle cooking at its best. Chicken fried steak, fried fish dinner, spaghetti, grilled tilapia, whole lemon meringue pie, which we took boxed to go. My 15yr old exclaimed that the food was better than the photos on the menu… high praise for a normally picky eater. He wanted to know why our town in KS doesn’t have one. Everything was great, large helpings, modest prices.

Jim’s always sounds like a good idea until you go there and the food is bland and the service is awful. We went to this location because most of the Jim’s are pretty run down and this one is fairly new. Nope. Somehow they still managed to make this place look tacky in a nice area of town. The service was awful. Our waitress sat and talked to an off-the-clock waitress and we had to WALKUPTOHER to get her to do anything. Finally, our waitress walked her friend out to her car(seriously?!?) and we talked to the manager about it. She ended up taking over our table and our waitress was able to continue her conversation with her friend in peace.

Being relatively new to San Antonio and all, I’m still learning about local restaurants, such as Jim’s. Though I have come here in the past, I had such a pleasant experience, both with service and snacks, that I just had to review. The place being open all day, every day isn’t half bad, either. I, first and foremost, was very pleased with the service. Our server had a smile on her face the entire time she spoke to us, and she was very attentive. She offered refills on our drinks and coffee as soon as we were even halfway through, and she kept coming by to make sure we were doing okay. I saw other servers behave very similarly with their guests, and I thought, «hey, I guess this is what they’re taught to do.» Good to know! We were only here for a quick snack, so we decided to order the appetizer sampler, which came with mozzarella sticks, fried mushrooms and Frontier chicken strips. The sampler also came with marinara sauce, ranch and gravy. The chicken strips were great quality chicken(I was surprised since this is a diner) and the mozzarella sticks were also great, while the fried mushrooms weren’t my personal cup of tea. All that for a total of $ 13! It’s priced well, but more than that, I loved the service. Will I come back? Indeed! Waffles and pancakes and burgers, oh my!

For breakfast all day or a late night meal, Jim’s is great. The menu has something for everyone– even light options like a cup of soup with a half sandwich. This location seems to have some kitchen issues though. It took over an hour to get breakfast on a weekday at 11 am. Blueberry pancakes didn’t come out of the kitchen for 45 minutes. Sausage arrived, but not the bacon. And where were the soft poached eggs? Both bacon & eggs took another 8 minutes and the eggs were overcooked. Our server really tried to get the kitchen to expedite the order; we could see that he was checking on things frequently, but apparently the kitchen didn’t seem to care. Our previous few experiences have also been with kitchen delays. If you have a choice, go to the 410 /Blanco location instead where they have their act together.
