I’ve been coming here since this place opened, and in the beginning I recommended it to anyone and everyone I talked to, but it just got worse and worse with each passing month. I’ve come back many times, turning a blind eye to my past disappointing experiences because I was aware of how good it actually once was, only for my disappointment to reach an amazingly new low. It’s always something; being served what are obviously reheated leftovers, undercooked food, sloppy presentation, a beer menu with half the beers tapped out, a food menu with half the items«out because they make everything fresh… Every two days». The last straw was being passed spaghetti in a bowl with some beef cubes and mushroom pieces as their $ 15+ beef stroganoff. Do not come here, the owners obviously could care less about their customers or their business and do not deserve your patronage.

These excellent reviews were obviously wrote under previous management. My family and I visited Knife and Fork 08÷09÷15 and while there(3) tables complained of various problems. For starters the table next to us ordered(4) orders of chicken and waffles and all(4) had to return their food due to cold waffles. Our waitress only came to our table twice so we never had our drinks refilled. Not to mention our soda was flat and when we asked to exchange the drink for water we still got charged for a soda. Another couple walked in and left after standing for 10 minutes waiting to be seated. Lastly a family complained due to the bad service their waitress was giving them. Food was okay however the service was beyond awful. I guarantee you I will never visit again!!!

Knife and Fork Gastropub Review the Brunch Experience. Great place if you want to get out of Tobin Hill/Alamo Quarry/Pearl Area. Mimosas: With $ 15 Bottomless Mimosas where you get your own Personal Carafe this is an excellent spot try. Various flavored to try. If you get the 1 $ 5 Mimosas you will like. Generous portion of Champagne. Note: Coffee wasn’t very hot but I’m sure you could ask for a fresh pot. Food: I had the Chicken and Waffles. I have experienced some places serving dry chicken with not so interesting Waffles. This place serves a juicy chicken breast with cute little waffles. Very good portion I didn’t finish mine. David had the French Toast and would recommend. A la Carte sides were also good. Ambiance/Atmosphere: Still has yet to be fully discovered by San Antonio folks so it’s still not overly crowded like some of the Pearl Brewery/Alamo Quarry places but I can see it will be once more catch wind. Air conditioning duct is decorated like an ICBM pretty cool. Full Bar and at the conclusion of our meal we were offered shots. We had to decline since we had somewhere to be. Lots of seating and varied seating styles. Wonderful covered Deck and view of the Hill Country cooled by fans and other instruments. Parking: Plenty of Parking lots of high end vehicles. Speed of Service: Seat yourself but it looks like during busy periods there is a host station. Call ahead to find out wait time. Don’t be overly hungry or in a rush when you come. If you are that hungry and in a rush go to Jack in The Box for all Day Breakfast/Lunch. Note: This is the last Saturday to do Brunch here so from now on it will only be offered on Sunday’s. They are trying out a change to their Saturday line up.

Came here for Sunday brunch because they were serving it till three, which is very convenient. Ate inside, but they have a really nice patio with lots of space and nice furniture. Inside was nice, but they were playing the music quite loud for the middle of the day. But it’s a bar too, I get it, and there were people at the bar. Very relaxed place, had a very attentive server. My SO had the burger with chips and I had the shrimp and grits, both were very good, although I had a lot of leftover grits as the bowl was HUGE. We will definitely be back, I look forward to going there for brunch again and trying their lunch menu!

I really like this place. The hummus is delicious, I suggest you try it. The drinks are usually really good, a little on the pricy side but I expect that being in Stone Oak.

Pros: The inside of the establishment looks great; has a great neighborhood restaurant and bar feel. Good number of taps and craft beers. Cocktails were crafted well. Great patio with swanky outdoor furniture. Cons: The food is sub par. The menu seems very simple for an expensive price.

We have eaten here for lunch and brunch. We have also stopped in for late night drinks. The atmosphere is relaxed and the staff is friendly. The food is good, but I must admit I’m partial to the grilled cheese and tomato soup. Great spin on a classic! I’ve had the jalapeño margarita. It was ok. But the blueberry martini was made with fresh blueberries and delicious! It is kid friendly for Sunday brunch, and they have a cereal bar which was a hit with our 3 yr old. But there is a charge for it, that was surprise. We must have missed that on the menu. But no big deal. Our son was happy. When we did have late night drinks the music got a bit loud in the main dining area 10:00ish. Although I like music, most ppl were trying to sit around and talk. It’s not a club, so that was a little confusing. Overall, I would go back. It’s a great spot.

I have been here a few times lately and the food had been great almost every time. For dinner, I would recommend the Margherita Flat Bread or the House Burger w/fries. Brunch– My friend had the chicken & waffles and they were just«ok» but we shared shrimp & grits and both thought it was yummy!!!

Ate here for the first time today. I tried to look at the menu online beforehand but their website didn’t seem to be working. I arrived after my group due to traffic. The hostess pointed me towards my group but didn’t provide a menu. A friend had to get up and get me a menu from the host stand. My friends pointed at our waiter and said he had been chatting with other waiters for 10 minutes at that point. I waited another 15 minutes for him to come over and finally get my order. Food came out quickly. I ordered the shrimp and avocado omelette with home fries and bacon. Food was decent but probably not worth $ 13. Bacon was cold and omelette wasn’t as full as I would have expected for that price. I saw the waiter only once more when he brought the checks. I’ll probably give this place one more shot and hope for better service and order something else.

Sunday brunch was great with a nice staff who accommodated every request. Food portions were perfect and fairly priced. Mimosas were stout but still enjoyable. The only critique I have is that check back time during meal could improve, however once a request was stated it was fulfilled without and sense of annoyance. Plenty of staff with potential since food is good just keep improving quality of service.

Overall, the food here is excellent. I have been here for both brunch, dinner, and dessert, as it is conveniently located across the street from my apartment complex. The monte cristo sandwich is rather heavy and can definitely be shared among two people, but the sweet and savory blend of powdered sugared French toast with warm ham and gooey cheese tastes so good it’s sinful! The parmesan truffle fries, grilled cheese and tomato soup, red pepper hummus, and s’mores dessert are also the bee’s knees! Here’s where the gastropub falls short: the service is downright awful. For the three times I have been here, no one has greeted me at the door upon arrival, drinks have never been refilled once brought to the tables, and once the food is brought out, it is as though the servers disappear and are not to be seen again. It really shouldn’t take waiting and rubbernecking for 20+ minutes after everyone finishes their meals to flag down the server for the check. All in all, great food… Service definitely needs some work.

Excellent food, good beer selection, good service, cool vibe, but… as we were eating, the smoking was just too much. They’ve got a pretty nice outdoor area but there were constantly people coming outside to smoke among the diners. That’s just nasty. Probably won’t eat there again… definitely won’t get a table outside on a beautiful evening.

My boyfriend and I came here for a goose island beer dinner. I am new to the area and had basically no expectations for the food or service; I was very impressed. Everyone from the bartenders to the wait staff to the chef did a great job. Service was timely and attentive. The dishes were beautifully plated and perfectly seasoned. Great flavor and spot on execution. The highlight for me was a perfectly cooked rack of lamb, which with a service of so many people I was extremely impressed how perfectly cooked and tender the meat was. I didn’t spend a lot of time checking out the beer selection but with bourbon county on tap… I can only assume they always have great craft brews. Great job.

We drove past the building, twice. No lighted street sign and trees block the fork & knife symbol on the building itself. What we did see were 2 huge«for sale» signs so we thought it was an empty business park. We decided to bust out the GPS and took its word, finally found it. It was deserted on a Saturday night which might be due to a few reasons: poor location(Stone Oak is so random), no signs, décor/food/prices/vibe don’t match. Prices were high considering when we got our food it seemed like they were trying to be a higher end bar but still served lower quality food. I ordered a grilled cheese with tomato basil soup; it looked good on the menu but the sandwich was poorly executed(goat cheese and onions were plopped in the middle of the sandwich instead of spread evenly) and the soup tasted like watery marinara sauce. My husband got the ribeye brisket burger with potato chips. He said the edges of the burger were cooked to medium rare but the middle was almost well done, very odd. He liked the potato chips though. Back to the burger, he said it was a bit greasy and he’s already not feeling well(we just got home). A friend of his suggested this place and really hyped it up — we have zero plans of ever coming back. Service: — you seat yourself, okay fine. — we sat at the bar and asked what beers were on tap, bar tender says(half ignoring us) «on the board» … Looking over his shoulder we saw a chalkboard with awful handwriting describing the beers. A handful were out. — my husband ordered a beer and I asked for tea, which confused the bar tender because it wasn’t alcohol. No really, he even asked if I really meant a whiskey or something lol! — we had to ask our neighbors for their menu because we asked 3 bar tenders for them and never got one. I even made a point to very loudly say«I’ll wait until I can see the menu» and still no attention. — took quite some time to order food, bar tenders were more interested in chatting amongst themselves. There were maybe 6 people at the bar(not packed at all). — once we got our food, no attention at all. Someone asked how we were doing when our drinks were empty & plates were finished. — I saw some«yucky» things take place … Hands not being washed, servers using their hands to clean things instead of using towels/rags, knives being used for multiple tasks — just, yuck. The servers didn’t have any type of uniform — Spurs tshirt, flowy white blouse, a band hoodie, torn black tshirt, etc. I only saw 1 girl with a restaurant shirt on. So strange. I get that it’s a bar, but the servers could at least look somewhat the same, all black maybe? I didn’t even realize one guy was an employee until he got behind the bar and started helping. I’m paying $ 14 for a burger, this ain’t no dive bar. I think it has a major identity crisis going on and needs a change in management. Someone doesn’t know what they’re trying to accomplish.

I came here back in 2012 when they first opened, and absolutely loved the place. But now they they’ve gotten a remake from some TV celebrity chef, the place has gone downhill dramatically. We ordered sandwiches, at $ 13 per sandwich. I can’t say that I’ve ever had a $ 13 sandwich before. It came with chips that seemed to be freshly made on site. No, the sandwich wasn’t presented on a silver platter, or sprinkled in gold dust. It was just a sandwich. The bread wasn’t made on site, nor was the sauerkraut. It wasn’t anything special, and certainly not worth $ 13. Additionally, we ordered an appetizer, hummus. The hummus didn’t show up until the sandwiches were almost completely eaten. They apologized, and knocked half off the price, but I thought it was still pretty lousy that they do this. The water came in tiny cups that seem more apt for sampling beers out of, instead of trying to quench a thirst. The service was friendly, when they came around. However, long periods would elapse before we saw the waitstaff. They’ve taken out the skee-ball game, and expanded the bar. Just like every other bar in town now. Avoid. Go somewhere else.

Needed a place to have some easy food and talk with colleagues. Chose here as it was featured in a local newspaper. Numerous TVs but still a reasonable volume for talking. Restaurant was 50% to 90% full throughout the Friday night. Service was reasonable to good. With some brief periods of waiting but also periods of being checked on regularly. They have a habit of covering each other’s tables which is definitely something I appreciate. Anyone walking by would ask if we needed another round, etc. Appetizers — panzanella, a salad of sorts with ONLY awesome croutons, basil, grape tomatoes and capers drizzled with olive oil and balsamic. Delicious Fries — truffle oil and parmesan, served colder than expected, great flavor would have been enhanced by proper temperature Lettuce wraps — uninspired. Skip this one. Chicken was relatively dry and minimal flavor Wings — ninja, not spicy, odd in that they were more wasabi-like in their heat Meals — Cuban, tough pork and ham, way too much cheese so unable to appreciate any other flavor. Ruben — average Pasta — nice spice level, large portion TX dip — au jus cold and tasteless, too much cheese, just not a lot of flavor I won’t try this again. Not enough potential to bring me back.

CHICKENANDWAFFLES That is the first thing that comes to my mind when I think of this Gastropub. The HOLYGRAIL of Chicken and Waffles in my eyes. The food here is simply amazing! From the Brisket Fried Rice to the Chicken and Waffles, you definately can not go wrong for some good ol’ fashioned«Food Truck» concept meals. The environment here is ideal for a Sunday Funday or any day for a happy hour. The beer selection they have is impressive and the staff is very friendly. I have never come across any major issues here. I also would like to mention they have«human size jenga» and karaōke on some nights. While belting out your favorite tunes you get a great view of Stone Oak area no matter what time of day(or night). This venue is very supportive of local brews althought they have major beers as well. Their bartenders are very friendly and allow you to sample the beers first which is a nice added touch. They are located right above Green Lantern so it is great to be jumping between both establishments. Overall, this is one of those places I try my best to never turn down an invitation to go and visit.

In honor of this place getting remodeled and helped by Chef Robert Irvine of Food Network’s Restaurant Impossible, I’ve decided to give a pre-remodel review. This place does some things extremely well while other dishes leave much to be desired. The first time I came here, I got the Brisket Fried Rice and i was not even mildly impressed. It tasted like something I’d make on a Try-It Tuesday at home from an online recipe that didn’t quite turn out as I’d hoped for. There was no substantial flavor or unique offering to be had with this dish. The next time i visited, i got the Chicken & Waffles and the chicken was succulent, well seasoned and overall pretty good. The waffle on the other hand was missing an element of density and i suspect they made the batter too light bc my waffle cracked and broke apart when i went to cut it. Very disappointing considering how difficult it is to find a decent chicken and waffles in San Antonio. The service here is usually just run of the mill. I’ve never had a great or terrible experience so for me, it epitomizes what this restaurant means to me. Just another place trying to use their good location to carry them to the finish line. I’m all for second chances and redemption so I’ll update my review once I’ve had a chance to revisit them in the coming weeks. Let’s hope for their sake, Robert whipped them into tip top shape.

Found this place randomly looking for a bar… We sat at the bar on a Friday around lunch and it was empty which was kind of nice because we just wanted to have a few beers. Our bartender was really nice and helped us pick our beers. Overall this is a very neat place and the food menu looked interesting so we would have to come back for more.

I have been a fan of this place since they opened, and without fail they have consistently delivered quality food and atmosphere. I hate to say it but a good majority of bad reviews are probably the pretentious types that I despised when first moving to stone oak. Real recognizes real, and chill recognizes chill. Trust me if you walk out of here having had a bad time, I promise you are the problem. Most recently we had the pleasure of allowing Gabe and his family to take care of my daughters grad party during a Sunday brunch. We couldn’t have chosen a better place. Not only was the cost per head great, but the level of attention we received was really just above and beyond making every penny spent well worth it. Gabe, thanks for the kitchen tour, really appreciated. Happy two year anniversary you guys, keep it up.
