So. Ok. Went back again this past Saturday, 10÷12÷12 and am happy to report the flavors are back! The damn yumbo gumbo was fantastic and the jambalaya spicy but not too spicy. The friends I was with we all agreed it was a great improvement from the last time we tried it. One thing to note, the red beans and rice, although good, could’ve used a bit more salt and spice, at least for our taste. Overall, I got to taste what they are famous for, good cajun/creole cookin’.

Let me begin by saying I grew up in New Orleans, Louisiana, so I have a solid idea of what Cajun food and also on a separate note, Creole food should taste like. Had a great dinner at the Lagniappe Today food truck tonight! It was my second time there & I was recognized by the food truck man, Gylon — talk about a friendly staff… I ordered the Crawfish Étouffée, which was delicious. It is served in a little bread bowl, which really soaks up the flavors of the dish & is a real treat to eat after one has devoured the Étouffée itself. The Étouffée combo also came with the choice of a side of gumbo OR a side of red beans and rice. Seeing as I am not a fan of beans ever, I ordered the gumbo. It was a great consistency throughout the gumbo, and there was not too much or too little rice. The gumbo also had sausage and chicken in it. When I went there the first time I ordered the gumbo and the bread pudding, both which were tasty. I will be going back for sure… good customer service & yummy food. Being from New Orleans, I cannot complain when I find authentic food that reminds me of home.

I saw cajun on the truck and I made a bee line to it. I read the Mac and cheese reviews on Unilocal but they didn’t have any since the menu is limited. I think I just have bad luck when it comes to finding Mac and cheese at food trucks lol. I got the sausage po boy that tasted like heaven and one of the best sweet potato fries I’ve even eaten. It was jam packed with flavor and a bite of spice. When I got it, this man next to me was watching me like a hawk to see how I liked it lol. It really is a family owned business and that really touches my heart. Very nice friendly people. The mother flagged me down to compliment me on my poodle looking hair. I really wish I would have tried the special of the day tho, hopefully they’ll have it again because I’m definitely returning!!!

I love eating from food trucks. I do not care for fancy interior, only for the food. The food from Lagniappe is delicious. I could eat bowl after bowl of their red beans and rice! The service is excellent.

MMM Sausage po-boy… So good. MMMM Red beans and rice… so good. You know what set this food truck aside from the others was their super friendly guy in the window. He was so nice. He was telling me what to try at the other trucks. That’s really nice since the competition has to be so tough with the food trucks.

Why are you wasting time reading reviews? Find out where the Lagniappe Today truck is right now and get there. You will be glad you did. Fresh, fun, and fabulous.

I am so unbelievably OVERDUE for my review. The chicken creole was wonderful. It came out piping hot and delicious — and it was definitely enough to satisfy my appetite. The chicken was savory — a lot of spices and flavoring and TIME went into it and it definitely showed… all topped on white rice. I honestly think my grandma would have been jealous if she were still alive(I love you, Grandma Mary).

Oh my goodness. Forgive me if this review lacks clarity, we just got back from Boardwalk on Bulverde and I’m in a food coma. Let me start by saying that I’m obsessed with Cajun and Creole food(see previous reviews) and that this is some of the best I’ve EVER had in my entire life. The entire reason I decided I wanted to go to BoB tonight was to try this truck — I had seen the reviews and had to try for myself! Plus, I saw that they had crawfish etoufee pistolettes on the menu. Cue steady stream of drool. I ordered a combo, which came with one pistolette and an order of smothered chicken. Boyfriend ordered just a pistolette(and I knew instantly I’d be sharing with him). Those pistolettes gave us both a mouthgasm. They were INDESCRIBABLY good. The pistolette itself tasted fresh-baked(and the website says they’re baked in Louisiana, so they must get them REALLY fresh) and was so puffy and had a nice flavor all its own. Top that with a generous helping of crawfish and etoufee sauce and all self-control goes out the window. What’s that you say, boyfriend? I’m supposed to be on a diet? Who are you, the police? Who asked you to monitor what I ate, anyway? Oh, I did? It’s your word against mine. Now shut your mouth. I’ll take the rest of your pistolette too, that should teach you to sass me. Ahem. Anyway. The smothered chicken was SCALDING hot and I knew it, but I kept eating anyway. I couldn’t stop. The top of my mouth will be peeling for days. That’s gross, but true. I ate through the pain! We had big plans to try somewhere else for dessert, like the bakery truck, the sno-cone airstream trailer, or the truck that was offering triple chocolate bacon bourbon brownies(!), but in the end, it was too tempting to try Lagniappe Today’s bread pudding. And OMFG, I’m glad we did. I don’t usually even like bread pudding all that much and I probably could have eaten three orders of this by myself. It was ridiculous, plain and simple. The truck was staffed by the owners, Joseph and Suzanne Jackson, who were so funny and sweet. I love that their son does the marketing, too. I think I saw him out among the tables mingling with customers. You can definitely tell that they all put a lot of love into what they do, and I think that when a business is family-run it’s just a beautiful thing. Suzanne laughed as she offered us a second spoon, knowing as well as I did that boyfriend was going to make a play for my smothered chicken. Thanks to the Jackson family for what was easily the best culinary experience I’ve had since moving here. We will be back. And next time, I am sharing NOTHING.

Delicious x10! Uncle Scotty’s special seafood and cornbread cup was to die for, and the little extra Mama gave me topped it off. Great family, amazing food, a must try!

Two words… waffles and chicken. YUMMY! Seriously tried Lagniappe tonight for the first time and am ashamed I didn’t try it sooner. I got the waffles and chicken(sounds weird, but is heavenly), the chicken is perfectly seasoned and the waffle is just delicious. My dad got chicken creole over rice and hasn’t stopped talking about how good it was, yet! We also finished it up wish some bread pudding which was amazing. The owners were SO friendly! Everyone I talked to there was so welcoming and you could tell they were happy to do what they do! We will definitely be back! Please try Lagniappe, I regret not going sooner!!!

Because I lack self-control when it comes to food trucks, I also had to grab a bite from Lagniappe today. The menu had Creole Shrimp Mac & Cheese and Red Bean and Rice w/Sausage but as soon as I saw the words SPICY. CHICKEN. PO’BOY. it was all over. It was only $ 6, so initially I was kinda worried it was going to be on the small side but when it came out on a huge fresh bun the size of the plate I was pleasantly surprised. Not only was the bun soft and delicious and not only was the chicken hot and juicy but the sauce was outta this world. I wish I had got a cup of that sauce to dip the sandwich in after every bite but I had to eat this thing in public. next time. If the food isn’t enough to sell you on this place, the people running the truck are super sweet and make you feel comfortable instantly if you have any questions.

I’ve hesitated to review this truck because I am a family friend and didn’t want to be biased. But it’s been about 4 months since they’ve opened and I’ve eaten there enough to give a fair review. But never fear, I will be honest with you, intrepid reader. I am someone who had heard all their life how great Louisiana food was, but everytime I tried it, it was in a restuarant and I never liked it. That was until I had THIS food from Lagniappe Today. The owners, The Jacksons. are just all around great people. However, the food can speak for itself. My favorite thing is the Crawfish Pistolette — a slightly deep fried baugette(imported from Louisiana, right Gylon?) stuffed with Crawfish Eutoufee. It has a really buttery taste and is just like heaven inside a little bread bowl. The Po Boys are also great with a spicy remoulade(thats sort of like tartar sauce for people who don’t know) that’s just right. Ms. Jackson also makes a mean bread pudding. Some things I haven’t had a chance to try are crawfish nachos, crab cakes, and the shrimp mac and cheese but I am ready! Don’t go here and expect fried aligator. This is Creole food not Cajun food. Creole food was influenced by traditional European and African cooking methods but use the local ingredients found in Louisiana. Cajun is more rustic. Both Cajun and Creole food have ingredients in common but they ARE different cuisines. I have been at the truck many times when people who are from Louisiana were eating there and they always comment«this is just like at home!» You won’t go hungry here. There is always service with a smile. This is a family business, and it’s cooked with love. They have a webpage that shows the location of the truck and the daily menu so be sure to check before you go!

Went to Boardwalk on Bulverde for St. Patrick’s Day Weekend Celebration. Decided to try some New Orlean’s flair since I missed Mardi Gras this year. I ordered the Crawfish Étouffée Pistolette and Zydeco Red Beans & Rice. Both were delicious and very memorable. The etoufee had the kind of richness that you can only get in LA., you can tell they make their food with love, also there was lack of crawfish in my little bread bowl. Every bite had crawfish and the flavor. My friend had the red beans and rice, it had a spicy kick that kept you coming back for more. The prices are affordable and they are very friendly. I’ll be sure to head back and try out more good eats from Lagniappe.

Took my Cajun buddy with me and everything was ok, nothing special, and we missed the typical kick of traditional Cajun cuisine. Bring on the heat! Friendly, quick service.

Amazing food, in an establishment run by wonderful people! 5 of us went and were fortunate to try a variety of items — all were excellent. The shrimp po’boy was delicious, good portion, seasoned perfectly, the sausage po’boy was delicious the grilled onions were a nice addition, the crawfish pistolette was tasty and the bread pudding = warm, yummy goodness. My son said it was like being back in New Orleans — but even better! The Lagniappe Today Food Truck is worth seeking out to enjoy some authentic New Orleans food.

I can’t think of another New Orleans style establishment that even comes close to the food here. There used to be a place called«Wahoos» that served some great New Orleans style food, but that place closed down years ago. Acadiana is rank, I recommend everyone stay clear of that place. Now this truck knows what it’s doing. There’s usually two things every food truck needs. First it needs someone on the team who knows the food/restaurant business. Secondly it needs someone on the team who has a passion for food with recipes that can relay that passion to an audience. This truck has both. My wife and I stopped by with the kiddos expecting some great food after seeing so much about this place on Twitter and Facebook. I admit I was hesitant considering the lack of great food of this nature in the city, but was willing to give it a go. I was not let down. I had the red beans and rice, my kiddos had the gumbo, and my wife had the shrimp po’boy. We followed that up with some bread pudding and it was a complete meal that I had not been able to match in a long time. The food is fresh, you can see all the ingredients and the flavor is legit. This truck has a great opportunity to reach some great success here in San Antonio considering the lack of diversity in food trucks. You can get a hamburger anywhere, you can get hotdogs anywhere, you can get cupcakes anywhere, but you can’t always find New Orleans style cuisine done right. I highly recommend t his truck if you are near Bulverde, but even if you aren’t, follow them on Twitter and Facebook to see where they will be text. They travel to special events and cater for personal events. Keep an eye out for them, I see big things for this food truck and their tasty faire.

Went back and this time knew what was being offered ahead of time. This allowed me to correctly set my expectations. I went for the sausage po boy and it is fantastic. All the components are great so you combine them and end up with out of this world fantastic. The remoulade would kick up any sandwich. Loved the tomatoes and grilled onions. Bread and sausage both very tastey. This is a truck worthy of following and hunting down.

I went on opening night. I had the Jambalaya, the red beans, and the sweet potato pie. The red beans were absolutely out of this world! Perfectly seasoned and a great proportion of sausage to beans. The sweet potato pie was like eating a little piece of heaven, creamy and thick and delicious :). So the jambalaya, it wasn’t my favorite jambalaya and I felt that the seasoning fell a little bit flat, but I’m going to give it another try because they are brand new and recipes are still being tweeked i’m sure. I’m headed back tonight to try the etouffe. They are super friendly and the lady in the kitchen looks like your grandmother, how could this food not be authentic and amazing!!!

Its only day 2 and they have already sold out of food for the night. The catfish was the crispy and fried to perfection and the hushpuppies were fantastic. If you like cat fish, not everyone does, I recommend you try it. The real treat though was the craw fish etouffe pistole. It was spiced to perfection and the bread bowl, literally, melted in my mouth. This new food truck has potential to be a hit.
