I think the food is acceptable. Rice needs a little more flavoring. I enjoyed the lemon sauce, very unique orange/lemon taste. Appreciate the customer service, nice owners. Probably will give it another try.

Don’t let the size of this place fool you. It may be small and look like a hole in the wall but this place is great! Had great customer service off the back I order the Kung pao, chicken w. Broccoli, chicken Lo Mein, sesame, Orange chicken, and still on a mission to try everything else! Food is well cooked and fresh I haven’t had great Chinese food in a while since coming here. Great Lunch specials less than 6 $ a meal I bet this place would be pack if more people knew about it. 5⁄5 try it.

Excellent excellent service… you are taken care of as soon as you come in and you get drinks right away. Soup was amazing I had hot and sour and kids had egg drop and ate it all. Then food came out very quickly and again it tasted rich in flavor plus my kids liked the fried rice. I had triple delight extra spicy and kids had lemon chicken. They ate it all. Refills on tea kept coming on this hot day.

We discovered this wonderful Chinese restaurant 4 years ago. We live in the neighborhood and since they were under new management, they left a flyer on our front door. We decided to try it and lo and behold, it was perfect for us. We have been ordering Chinese food ever since. They know us by sight and since we order the same food every time, it’s ready when we pick it up. At times, they get so busy and the orders back up but the owners would offer a glass of water while waiting for the food. We try to patronize these small restaurants because they help the neighborhood have a good Chinese take out place and it helps them out as small businesses because we can see how hard they work to satisfy their customers. The owner works 14 — 16 hour days and only takes Sunday as a day off because they are closed. If you want to try them out, please do so. You will be very pleased!

My husband loves their General Tso’s. While I’m less impressed with that particular dish, I very much like their chicken with black bean sauce. Fast service, very friendly staff, reasonable prices. Can’t ask for much more than that.

1st visit. Lunch order: «Pepper steak»(Marinated beef with white rice or fried rice and egg roll or crab rangoon) 5.45 $ Service /Wait time: Food was prepared quickly(within 10 minutes) and the people seemed nice. 4⁄5 Wonton Soup: It’s great, what can I say. Order it. 4⁄5 Pepper steak: The beef itself was amazing, very flavorful and perfectly cooked. The Lo Mein that I ordered with it wasn’t that great at all. Quite soggy and not really pan fried to perfection. The veggies were alright, really nothing great, although they did taste fresh. I don’t think I’d order the Lo Mein again though. The Egg roll that I got wasn’t anything special either. 3⁄5 Atmosphere /Cash out: Well, turns out when we called they said that substituting veggie lo mein with fried rice on the lunch special would only be 50 cents. After our purchase and pick up though, we looked at the receipt and it turns out that it was a 3.70 dollar upcharge. Oh well, guess somebody tried to lure us and succeeded… we’ll know for next time. The restaurant itself was quite dark as most Chinese restaurants are. 1⁄5 Verdict: 3⁄5 — It’s OK.

Came here for lunch with my buddy at his suggestion. As he told me, its nothing fancy, a mom and pop shop. For me, it was just okay. I ordered the pepper steak(requested spicy), hot and sour soup and the crab rangoon. One thing for sure, the pepper steak was spicy! The portions are good, the price is great, but the taste just didn’t knock my socks off. The wait staff is great. It was a bit cold in there, but to their defense, I didn’t mention it to anyone but my friend. Would I go there again? Uh, probably not unless someone else wanted to go.

Great lunch & dinner specials between $ 5-$ 7 includes rice, soup & eggroll or 2 rangoons. Quarts of soup less than $ 3. Super casual & waitstaff always very friendly. I’m always happy to give them my business.

Holy awesome surprise find! BF and I love Chinese but can’t seem to find a decent place in SA to get take out. Lia Wah’s to the rescue! Drove past a million times and commented on it, but the reviews here seem to be either rants or raves– no middle ground. Gave in and stopped by earlier this week to pick up a couple of dishes to pick at while marathon-watching a new series on Netflix. Food was the best Chinese we’ve had in SA– Ordered the Triple Delight and the Pork with Garlic sauce dinners with fried rice and an eggroll each. Both dishes were spot on: hot, fresh, and plentiful, with the best sauces! The pork was my favorite, and it was spicy with a whole chile in the sauce! The triple delight was a good amount of each meat, and a sauce that worked incredibly well for all of them. Both dishes had a decent amount of veggies that were at the perfect done-ness and were clearly fresh chopped, not a frozen mix from a bag. The rice was just right for sopping up all of the extra sauce, as was the eggroll. Both were done well, without being the stars of the meal. This is now our go-to Chinese place. In fact, I may even call today…

I’ve heard about this place for years, and have passed it for years as well. Thought I’d give it a shot. Never again. Food was kind of mediocre tasting, and my waiter seemed preoccupied with standing around doing nothing. Was I supposed to fill my own tea glass? There were probably 2 or 3 other tables filled. Spoke with, I guess the manager, and she didn’t seem to concerned that the service was bad, or the fact that was my first and last visit. Maybe the waiter had an off day, maybe the manager doesn’t speak good English. I don’t know. I do know though that first impressions are what counts.

As others have mentioned, you’ve probably driven by Lai Wah’s Place a thousand times without even noticing it. I don’t remember how my wife discovered it several years ago, but it has long been her favorite Chinese restaurant. And I like it too. I have no idea whether the food here is «authentic» and I don’t really care. What I do know is that they have a wide menu of delicious, inexpensive lunch specials. In addition to a large entrée, you get your choice of three different soups(egg drop, wonton or hot & sour), two fried sides(egg roll or crab rangoon) and steamed or fried rice. On our most recent visit, I ordered kung pao chicken because I was in the mood for something spicy. My wife got her favorite, chicken with garlic sauce. Oddly enough, the garlic chicken had more pow than the kung pao, so we ended up switching! So if you’re in the neighborhood, stop on by. Who knows? It might wind up on your short list too!

I was a little dissapointed in my lunch here. The veggies seemed to be diced and possibly from frozen… nothing seemed to ve very fresh.

Not much exists on the web about this restaurant. It’s entrance is at the far right of the small strip center. Lai Wah’s Place has survived in this small nondescript strip center near Fredericksburg and Callaghan where many other businesses have tried and failed. Folks, it ain’t a great location, and what little décor you find on entering this restaurant does not inspire confidence that you’ll get a decent meal here. If you can ignore the fact that this eatery has paid little attention to how it looks, and just order food, you may be pleasantly surprised. Menu items are very reasonably priced and well executed. The staff is efficient and welcoming. If you want a meal of inexpensive Chinese food, try Lai Wah’s Place.

Do not eat here! Besides the food being absolutely terrible, I ordered again from this place thinking it could be better the second time around. I was wrong. They sent me the wrong delivery and then tried to talk me into keeping it! Then after I asked for a refund and returned the food, they didn’t refund me! Now I have to call my bank and sort this out. Disgusting food and incompetent service.

I have passed this place plenty of times and always NEVER thought about going in because of it’s location and how tiny it looks in the small strip mall it’s in. I came home from work one day and saw that Lai Wah’s Place had left a menu in my door(like most delivery places do) and I quickly came to Unilocal to see the reviews and was very excited to see so many positive feedback, I needed to try Lai Wah’s out. I called yesterday and did a pick up order, even though they deliver — I prefer just to pick up. The lady I spoke with on the phone(who I presume is Lai Wah) was super friendly and extremely easy to understand over the phone. I ordered the large dinner beef brocolli for myself and the bf got the large dinner sesame chicken. There is a smaller order but bf and I LOVE to eat so we figured if we have any leftover, we can have it for lunch the next day. ;) When I went to pick up the food, I was surprised to see that it was the same Chinese restaurant I always pass to go to work and would never think of going in. When I walked in, I was greeted right away by a man. He was really friendly, asking me how my day was, if it was my first time eating at Lai Wah’s. Not too much convo, but just enough to be friendly. I paid $ 15.60 for two large dinners, can’t really gripe at all, that is a BARGAIN. The actual dining area is really small. No one was there when I got my food around 6PM but they had several bags of food lined up for delivery. I can’t imagine ever dining in, just because it’s so small — it’s kind of awkward to eat in there. Anyways, Lai Wah brought out my food and was super friendly just like on the phone. We got the food home and dug into it and was extremely surprised of how big the portions were. I knew we ordered large dinners, but I didn’t expect them to be that big. Both my bf and I had leftovers afterwards so I seriously believe a large dinner could feed two people EASILY. The food itself wasn’t genuinely the best chinese food I’ve ever had, but it was pretty good and I would definitely eat there again. You can’t argue with the prices, the customer service is fantastic and the food is good.

This so far is my go-to place for Chinese. I live closer to other places… but I like going here for the food and price. It’s decent and enough food for the price! I usually never finish mine and just save the rest for later. Great service as well for when I’ve sat down and picked up.

Had the Garlic Pork, which was delicious! The pork was juicy, and marinated in this garlic sauce that was pretty good! It came with peas, celery, watercress, and some long brown things that I couldn’t identify. They looked like long worms, but I don’t imagine worms taste like this. The place was very clean. The service was impeccable. My water glass never went empty. The food was cheap, lunch specials are the way to go. My bill came out to about $ 6. The serving size was a bit small, but it was lunch.

I’ve worked up the hill from this place for 3 years but only recently decided to try it after one of my co-worker’s mentioned the place is under new ownership. Before this new ownership, I avoided Lai Wah because the stuff my co-workers were bringing back did not look appetizing and everyone said it was mediocre but convenient. The eggrolls were crispy but needed some more flavor. The vegetable lo mein is made with the flat noodles and has a little bit of gravy; I prefer the dry version. The veggies were plentiful and well sized. The hot and sour soup was lacking the spicy«oomph» I usually like, but the sweet/tangy component was pleasing. It’s not as good as Golden Wok, but it’s a little bit cheaper and closer, so I might be perusing their menu a lot more.
